Good deal, but I presume they are group lessons at that price?

I doubt it. 3 half hour lessons is quoted as €99 on their website and the reduction is based on that price. I'd say it's a good deal - the kicker is publicity for GolfLabs.

Anyone any experience with this company?

    Looks a great deal.

Never heard of the Golf Lab though. Anyone ever had a lesson there?

    Apparantly it is:

"With their industry leading technology, including SAM Putt Lab and HD Video Analysis, this allows their PGA Teaching Professionals to offer the highest level of golf putting teaching in Ireland"

That is exceptional value. If I was in the Dublin area I would definitely go for that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 149 ✭✭strokes1

I just bought it cause I'm a sucker for discounts of +50% or more, and besides in my head it apparently guarantees me 28 putts per round for the rest of my golfing life.... So long high teens hcap, adios 3 putts, slan to any urges to break putter over knees!!

thanks for posting this spacecoyote, booked in for my first lesson next Thursday, like the others will report back on this thread

Went to first lesson at lunchtime today.

Quite pleased with the lesson. Told me one or two things I knew were wrong - putter face open at impact, albeit conistent - and a couple I didn't - I was correcting open putter face by cutting across the ball. This explained why I had a tendency to miss putts left, which confused me before as I knew my putter face was open (why wasn't I missing right?).
Feedback very good, gave analysis that the naked eye couldn't. I think I will improve my putting for this €29, and I was relatively happy with it before I started. The feedback results were improving before I left at the end of the lesson. Was given drills to work on at home to fix the problem before booking another lesson.

Thinking of buying another €29 worth, worth it even if I used one or two of them. Excellent value for that price.

They do custom putter fitting for €99, and the guy there said that they would take one of these €29 vouchers to pay for that either.

Did they show you how to hold the putter etc? Can you do this in the evenings as can't do it during working hours.

My putting was so bad last sat that I came in and bought a new putter - I had a bit of money in the Pro shop so didn't cost me too much but it was so frustrating as hitting the ball quite well.

They'll show you what ever you need, right from basics. I've done a fair bit of work on my putting over the last year or two, so no problem with my grip or setup, but if there was then that's where they would have started. Yes, you can book for evening lessons.

Great tks I am normally an OK putter but it is all about confidence the amount of times I put myself 5-8ft away on Sat and did not get any never get close

Did you get one of the Scotty Camerons that he had for €129?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,835 ✭✭✭dennyire

Went today too for my first 2 lessons, taken two half hour lessons together, and held third for a couple of weeks.
    Must say very pleased.
Screens analysed my full putt from backswing, through impact, follow through, as well as arc, line and much more.

Amazing what you see you are doing!

My putting was always reasonably ok, but until now I never realised that the point of impact was nearer the toe rather than centre.
A few drills and lots of putts, together with adjustment of my stance sorted most of this out.
Like the earlier poster, he gave me some drills to work on, so, putting matt for a few nights, and hopefully improved putting where it matters at the weekend...highly recommended.

I must I was very impressed with the technology and the outcome not to mention Bobby the PGA teaching pro. Always thought my putter was going outside the line on take away. Turns out I'm coming to far back on the inside. Your perception of what you're doing can be completely at odds with reality so every tweak you try makes it worse. My putter face was open by about 3 degrees at address so I have it slightly closed at the moment to help over compensate during the transition phase. My putter face was open by about 3.5 degrees at impact and we got that down to 1.5 after some drills. It should be no more than about 1 degree. Some drills to work on now so I have the putting mat out with two irons running parrallel and 4 cans of deoderant lined up outside the tramlines. Trying to make putts now between the tramlines without touching the shaft of the irons or the cans. Working great.

Very impressed overall (apart from the difficulty finding the place on a horrible wet night !)

Sometimes I think ignorance is bliss. I might be afraid to find out all the flaws in my stroke.
Were you not happy with your putting before you went to them?
Im just thinking if I went down that route would I start obsessing about having a perfect stroke instead of concentrating about actually holing the putts regardless of putter being open, closed or square at impact.
Do you think this will help your putting?
Did you leave the place with a new found confidence or a bit deflated after the session?

I know this will help my putting. New found confidence for sure - Elated not Deflated

I always considered myself a decent putter. I've gone through phases where the putting starts to fail and confidence becomes eroded . This normally recovers when I start to practice. In summer I would often practice 30 minutes a day for 3 or 4 days a week on the practice green of a local golf course (dont tell anyone) or on a practice mat at home. I've been out of golf for over 4 months now with injury and having returned the putting stroke just feels more hopeful than confident.

I don't think it's obsessing about a perfect stroke, but having a technically good stroke will make you a consistently good putter. If you have an open or closed putter face at impact you're never going to be consistently good with the flat stick because there's too much rerouting of the putter to correct these imperfections. Straight back and staight through with a square putter face is the way to go. The problem is our perception of what we're actually doing and until you see on screen what's actually happening you wouldn't believe it. Bobby actually thought I was taking the putter back on the outside and so did I but the machine said the opposite. I may have been starting it outside for an inch but I was quickly trying to correct this subconsciously and over correcting it. I think it's just about muscle memory and understanding where the putter should be on the backswing and lots of practice. The important thing for me is now I know what to practice.

BTW i probably holed about 100 6 footers tonight. The only misses were about 7 or 8 I left short. Using the tramline aids admittedly !

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 535 ✭✭✭golfnut1

    Yeah good stuff.
As long as your given a solution to any faults discovered I suppose it can't hurt as long as your willing to practice it.
Thanks for the insight. Might take a look at getting it done.
Best of luck with the putting.

Might give these a punt it seems there is some great feedbaack.

Ive been relatively happy with my putting. Especially since retunring and picking up a new putter and ditching the old two ball Ivebeen having great success.

But at this price and the technology available I think it wortwhile to find out something I might nt know

Out of interet could I buy this three set and say go to one or two and let someone else use the others?

Nearly tempted to buy a set for the Da haha

Didn't see any Scotty Camerons for that price - was practising with the Odyssey 2 ball and Ping mallet head. Ended up getting the Ping Mallet head but have not actually played with it yet- Was going to go out Sunday evening for a few holes but the weather was shocking.
From just to right of the bunker on the 6th on Sat in 1 I came off with a 5 on Sat :o

    TheDoc.

Could you expand on why you got rid of the old two ball. I'm in the same boat and have been thinking of a change. I think the 2 ball shaft was too long for me all along. Did you stick to something like it or go away from that idea ? Thanks.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,140 ✭✭✭✭TheDoc

    I went to a blade

I felt the 2ball was heavy and cumbersome. I had one of the first models of the white hot version with the little steel insert

The head was tiny and was just no feel for me

Went with aTaylor made ghost blade the TM110 model I think

You can get the Taylor made 79 or something , basically the same in black for about 70 quid now brand new

Halpenny had buckets full in grafton street

Just bought two sets of lessons there

one for me oe for the father

At that price and from some of the feedback sounds a steel.
did someone say yo can use one of the 30 min lessons against a custom fit

Or was it a whole 3 lesson bundle against a custom fit

Played Knightsbrook yesterday one day after the putting lesson. 31 putts and delighted with the stroke. Holed out well from 7/8 feet all day and can honestly say I only missed two putts of any significance. A 10 footer for par which went where I hit it but I read too much break and an 8 footer for birdie which I pulled ever so slightly and it ran over the left edge.

Can't wait to get home and practice again :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,140 ✭✭✭✭TheDoc

Well it appears the feedback has been pretty much 100 percent positive.

As a matter of pure interest, did anyone go and feel hey got nothing from it?
Not that its overly relevant, but did anyone go with a solid short game and still benefit?

Its rare you hear a perfect review bout something haha

Picked this deal up today, I've been on the SAM putt lab before at Carton House but at this price it's too good to turn down.

Hoping to get a bit more detail written down this time, must bring a notebook with me, last time I was on it I felt as though I got loads of info and never really recorded enough of it to be able to refer back to.

Just bought this deal now. Have been hyming and hawing about whether to go with this but seeing all the positive reviews to date...I thought it was a no-brainer for €29.

    Looking forward to it now

back from my first lesson. couldn't recommend it highly enough particularly for the price of this deal. it's great to have a visual representation of what you're doing then to see how that changes as you start to do a few drills and the start to get a feeling for what you are trying to achieve. Because you have that visual representation i think it really makes it hit home what your faults are and you then start trying to commit better to the few drills. For me it showed that I was pushing the line of the putter out to the right a touch past the line of impact and also backswing a bit too long which causes me to decelerate into the ball. A couple of simple drills given - an object 6-8 inches directly behind the putter to encourage shorter backswing and then something to encourage the putter arc slightly back inwards after the ball. Found Dave to be very friendly and informative, no fussing or rushing and can arrange the following 2 lessons whenever suits. I think if you're at all considering it just go for it, definitely worth a go.

Thought it was very good, told him was a blank canvas so totally changed everything. I still need a few tweaks but was alot more confident standing over my putts especially distance wise- putted much better on Sat not quite as well on Sunday but course I was playing Dublin City the greens were quite poor so took me a while to get used to them.

So the $64,000 question is, based on your experience, would you pay €99 for the three half hour lessons?

Could really do with some help in improving my putting :o

Did anyone buy one of the vouchers and not use it ? Just asking because my putting was so bad yesterday and a few lesson are definitely needed.

If they want to get rid of the voucher I'll glady take it off hands and reimburse you the cost.

    Thanks

Well, had my first lesson yesterday evening, and very impressed...with the technology & set up, not with my putting stroke :o

Definitely have plently of work to do, but, thats always the way with golf.

So basically, my swing is terrible, my putting stroke is terrible, but my handicap has been coming down the last couple of years, so I suppose I should be feeling positive that I'm making improvements which should end up with me shooting lower.

Gonna give it a couple of weeks before the second lesson, stick to the drills, and try make sure step one of the putting stroke is bedded in nicely (ie that the putter is travelling on a straighter path)

Anyway, would highly recommend a trip out to these guys, Dave was a really nice bloke who seems very enthusiastic about what they are doing.
