i would like to share my experience and let the people know the service that they can expect over there.

so i went to tyreland- Swords as always. i am happy with them - but as for today they had no tire i was looking for. i wanted 2 tyres or whole set possible - 185-60-14. So the lovely lady behind the desk called the Glasnevin Tyreland and i have been told they have stock over there.

So i decided to go over and i made a reservation. within 20 min i was in Glasnevin Tyreland. i went to the reception and i have been asked for car keys and they have told me that my car is next.

all good so far. after 20 min of waiting i become a bit confused as i saw 2 other random cars that came after me going first. i stayed calm and i didnt say a word. Finaly after 40 min my car went in.

    1. the guy that came to do the job in spend first 10 min on the phone---> while ofc doing nothing.
at that stage i was still calm.

    2. then i saw him fidling something on the front tyre... i as still calm.. and then it happend. Guy was on the phone while putting back the "new" rear tyre and holding the gun with one hand. out of nowhere he BROKED the THREAD of the bolT!!!! one hand mobile phone another hand gun. :( then he saw me watching him and he was red like a tomato!! i was thinking in my mind - dont kill him Ed... dont kill him Ed (its me ED) :)))

so i went to ask the supervisor whats going on... he said he doesnt know and he went to check out the situation. the pusy guy with phone was shaking - he knew what he did and he knew i saw him .after a moment another guyfrom the garage (pure muppet) joined the conversation (only) his weight was about 45kg with safety boots and he was shouting on me : " leave my mate do his JOB" i didnt say a word and i start laughing. i went to office and i was calm asking the supervisor what does it mean. i was already there 2 hours!!! yeh believe or not.

they had to cut new holes, new threads and replace it. he did do so and i was charged 80E!!! never ever again. and i made complaint. no respond whatsoever....

I will stay miles away from service like that!!!

think TWICE before you gonna enter TYRELAND Glasnevin!!

    2.

Why did you pay if they were wrong?

What did they do to rethreaded it by the way?

i had no choice as they were shouting on me there and i was in shock - i just wanted to hit them and fight - my wife was holding me back!! i wrote them official complaint.

they had to cut brand new thread!!!! with the tools and replacing the bolts. **** job and it will never be the same!!

Maybe complain to the other branch that you're on good terms with.

I wouldn't be happy with them re-tapping my hub.

****ing idiots. I'd be back first thing in the morning asking for a refund and a new hub. Cut a brand new thread? Did the strip the threads or shear the bolt? (Was there a bit of bolt left in there?)

Failing that, registered solicitors letter should sort them out.

i am styll in shock. they didnt broke the bolt! they broke the thread on the car! the bolt was perfect ... so they were cutting it on the car. :*( i will go back to swords in the morning. when they gonna open i will be there first! waiting with warmly welcome.

so i should send them a registered letter with complaint? thats what are you saying? i really dont know how to walk in this .*(

all i did is a send them an email to info@tyreland.ie and i complained to supervisor in the garage. but he was saying me that htye have removed the issue and the job is done for them BB.

edit i saw a lot of fresh cutted metal/iron under my car/like a dust or a cheese that you gonna add to spagetti :( - they ****ed up big time. i will keep you updated.

That's really surprising that they would be like that cause I have used them a number of times with no complaints but being on the phone while doing that isn't on.

The staff in the Swords branch are brilliant as the OP mentioned.

As people have said, I would write to them or ring and see if you could meet with the manager to get a refund.

Tyre centres well known for this crap, over tightening, losing lock nuts, breaking lock nuts and when a mechanic comes around to remove the wheels no lock nut to be found or it will break because it has been over tightened.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,668 ✭✭✭eringobragh

Wouldn't use them again. Had an argument with the fitter who claimed the 225s wouldn't fit the wheels.

Also just hopped in the car in oil drenched overalls just as well i haven't a light interior.

Infairness to the lad he admitted he was wrong about the tyres afterwards.. But I will not be back

Can't say that I can agree with your comments about Tyreland in Glasnevin. I buy all my tyres here and have always found them to be professional in what they do and I've never waited 40 minutes to be served. There are a few comments in your story that don't add up either, like the tyre fitter being on the phone while fitting the wheel to your car for instance. Between mounting the wheel to the hub, hand threading the nut or bolt on, operating the air ratchet you would need to be using 2 hands and a foot. Are you saying that he managed all of this this using 1 hand, while having a conversation over the volume of an air ratchet? Also, where were you when he was fitting the wheel? If you were in the waiting room he would have either had his back to you or been around the opposite side of the car where he couldn't see you and you couldn't see him "red like a tomato". Or were you standing next to him while he was fitting the wheel, in that case I doubt very much he'd be on the phone while under scrutiny. Being a regular visitor to both Glasnevin and Swords branches your story doesn't ring true to me. I'd like to hear more about how they re-cut the threads in your hub for you. From your description of there being a lot of metal shavings on the ground I'm surprised that the original bolt fitted. In most cases it's the bolt that shears it's thread and not the thread in the hub as the steel is an awful lot stronger in the hub.

Surprising that ya haven't been around for a Year before this post...anyway...

In fairness RoverJames over 100 posts a year vs just over 2 is a reasonably big difference.

I'm not disputing it's a big difference, neither are regular posters in here, one of them has a few posts in motors that seem genuine, one started yesterday.

There must have been a fault in the hub if this story is true. The bolt would have went first.

I used to do business with them a few years ago, and have only good things to say about them and have always had good service. If the guy was on the phone I don't think the owner would be too happy and I think you should go in and ask to speak to him and come back and tell us how you got on. They have a very good cctv system there and im sure he can check back and if the story stacks up then id expect you to looked after.

Should of gone to a real tyre shop and not an el kippo place to begin with.

Violence solves nothing in these situations and the next thing you know your on a free flight back to Moscow.

What made this important enough to say?

A number of reasons. The OP's story doesn't add up to me on a number of different levels that I've mentioned. Also, this is a business owned by a person, providing employment for other people and what I believe to be a story lacking in facts my have negative consequences for the individuals working here and the success of business itself. There's normally a staff of 3 and the OP's implicated all of them in his story.

16 posts in 7 years, I hadn't realised it was that many. I normally just read other peoples posts. And I feel that I should also declare that I don't know who owns Tyreland, I have no association with them other than being a customer.

well mr. Sherlock he used 2 hands to put the tyre on without the bolts, but then he was on the phone so he used only one hand while using the gun. Second when he did it he turned back ! and yes you can clearly see inside the waiting area through the glass door - my car was parked in the middle of the garage - not on the ramp - I was watching him, then i went after supervisor and he sended me to the service area, where i got no respond and only the "fly" guy was shouting on me. And believe or not they had to recut new thred - 2 actualy and i saw the metal pieces underneath the wheel! there were 2 other customers watching that and shaking heads, one taxi driver and one fella from Latvia. Well i am not here to blaim anyone but stating facts. Imagine yourself waiting for your car and watching that.. no point to go further in this conversation.

    UPDATE:

Today morning i went straight to Swords branch and as always there i was welcomed with the lady and friendly staff who rechecked the bolts and the threds for me immediately and assured me that there is no major issue. I also got a very quick respond from manager and at this stage i wont make further steps - only i wont visit Glasnevin branch ever. I didnt ask for refund at any stage and i wasnt using bad language either. All i wanted is justice and further recheck - and thats what i got at this stage. + apology.

    drama over!

its about the system... if you gonna bring to drycleaners your shirt and ask them to clean it up and they gonna loose (broke) the buttons on it, what you gonna say? ok here i am post me the invoice? nope. they will replace the buttons and you gonna end up paying for the service (for the cleaning part).---> Pure example.

well i am not saying they are the worsest people or garage in Dublin. I was a bit angry because the service that they have provided for me was simply unacceptable. As i mentioned before, i ma easy going guy or in another words hassle free and if there is a problem dont try to be ****ing smart with me. thats how i roll. If they would apologies and asure me that there is no "real" damage that could efect my driving performance or safety i would never write this topic or either complaint. So i think the point is there.

OP sounds quite, err, intense, tbf, the poor tyre fitter was probably ringing his mammy to say goodbye, there's a big, mad, russian lad who's gonna kill me. Even if he held the impact driver with his flute, if the thread was gonna strip, it was gonna strip. Most studs and hubs are made of chewing gum anyway. In fact, just to state it a bit clearer, it's all to easy, with all the care possible, to strip a thread, shear a wheel bolt/nut clean off, get cross threading etc etc. Like the little skinny, 45 kg lad said, "just let the lad do his job". As someone once said, in a thread far far away, customer sounds like a nightmare.:) But then I'd imagine Russian tyre fitters are all brilliant:rolleyes: Gotta laugh at the "wife held me back" bit. She must be well strong! €80 for two tyres fitted and still whinging, ffs.

let me answer. i was not looking for the cheapest deal ever on the planet. i went for tyreland because i "like" them.they always served me caviar on silver plate in Swords. I can agree with you about the quality of the threads theese days but i dont wanna repeat the same over and over. its about the system. if they said : hey mr. giant that can happend to anyone and its threated the right way and there is no harm to your car and if there will be anything that we can help you in the future we will be happy to do so and our worker had a important thing to say to his mum. - that will make the difference.

and the guy was shouting on me i repeat shouting : "leave my mate do his JOB"

i am working with people every day - and i know how its the bussiness.

I rarely get chamge from €100 each and I've often had threads strip, often stripped then myself actually. Never publically denigrated a business because of it happening though. I doubt, considering what a err, vocal lad you are, they did it on purpose. What exactly do you mean by "I'd take a free ticket to Moscow though" ?? You're the one who said you were a "russian soldier". Anyway, probably better if you never go back there, for them.

Lets tread carefully here guys, it's a story about tyres, not a catfight.
