Hi, i what in your opinion is the healthiest breakfast cereal on Irish supermarket shelfs at the moment.

I currently have a mixed a bowl of the following every morning:

1/3 Alpen (blue - no added sugar)
    1/3 Kelloggs All Bran
1/3 Mixed Nuts (brazil nuts, almonds, hazelnuts and walnuts)

I am sure there is a better cereal out there that could replace one of the first two, thanks in advance...

Yeah, you can't really beat porridge for it's nutritional value for cereals.

I have flahavans with cold low fat milk, scoop of vanilla whey (or whatever flavour you like) and either mixed nuts, flax meal, linseed meal.
Suprisingly addictive and a good summer (cold) breakfast.
I'm not a big fan of cooked porridge.

So? Does that mean you can't eat them in the morning as well?

I eat chicken for breakfast and chicken for my lunch.

Soak it over night in some sugar free apple juice and some cinnamon - and whatever else you like - nutes, blueberries etc. Leave it in the fridge ...

I then add a little cold milk the next morning, and it tastes great!

Liquidise it with milk & egg and make oat pancakes. Or just get oat flour, it is in some health shops but can cost more than oats.

You could try honey or jam with the porridge. I did and now I don't notice that I don't put them in anymore. :)

No cereal! Keep the nuts and add some meat. Nothing else.

This way you'll get some proteins and fats in the morning - that's a real nutritional value. Porridge is just sugar wink.gif

I have a shake with fat free natural yogurt, bran, an egg, and some skimmed milk. I add frozen fruit sometimes aswell. Very quick to make and can be gulped down in a minute or two if in a rush in the morning!

Thanks y'all... i already have a shake in the morning at 0730

I then have my bowel of cereal at 1000 in the morning, followed by lunch at 1300.

I was using the bowel of cereal as a carbs intake...

Is Porridge really full of sugar :0

    Here is my usual intake:

    0730 - protein shake
1000 - mixed bowel of cereal
1300 - chicken OR fish OR beef salad (changes each day)
    1630 - snack
    1800 - gym
    1930 - shake
2000 - chicken OR fish OR beef with veg (changes each day)

I would recommend real food for breakfast.
I still drool thinking about mine from this morning... freshly fried lamb escalopes (takes only few minutes!) and brazil nuts :)

do you have some proteins in each meal?

Well... OK, there is no added sugar, but it's all about carbs - see the label ;) Still better than other cereal I guess.
Anyway, why not spread carbs through all your meals using veggies and fruits?
    Here is my usual intake:

    0730 - protein shake
1000 - mixed bowel of cereal
1300 - chicken OR fish OR beef salad (changes each day)
    1630 - snack
    1800 - gym
    1930 - shake
2000 - chicken OR fish OR beef with veg (changes each day)

What do you have for snack?
Do you keep track of protein/fat/carbs ratio/amount?

I usually have real food meal 1h after post-gym shake - feels like enough time to get stomach empty, but whatever suits you. And usually I like to have my carbs after the shake. I found this http://fellrnr.com/wiki/Nutrient_Timing interesting and valuable.
