hi everyone, i was just wondering if anyone knows if bagels are better for you (losing weightwise) than ordinary bread?

i love them but they just seem like bread to me although my friend swears they're not half as fattening as bread.

    so anyone know?

    Neither are good for weightloss.

Well, they are MADE of bread. As are wraps, baguettes, ciabattas, paninis, etc. If you're trying to avoid bread, then avoid bagels.

Check their calories, presumably 1/2 bagel would be replacing 1 slice of bread.

I don't think there's much difference between the two tbh.

Might be better off going to some sort of brown bread, soda bread, etc

and there's probably more stodgy dough gram per gram in a bagel than in 2 slices of bread.

would whole grain pitta bread be better than either?

I think your friend is getting the idea from the fact that bagels (real bagels) are "fat free". But "fat free" doesn't mean you won't get fat from them.

    The interweb says:

" A typical slice of bread has about 70 calories, whereas a typical bagel has about 360!"

Was always told one bagel is the equivalent of 5 slices of bread. The above "Interweb" post equates to roughly that. So, a normal slice of bread is "healthier".

In my calorie-counting days, a New York bagel was 218 calories (the kind you find in Dunnes and Tesco)

With PB and Jam and Banana... meowwww
