Just looked it up and the End of fiscal year conference looks to be scheduled to take place tomorrow or Friday.
    http://www.nintendo.co.jp/ir/en/schedule/index.html

So maybe we'll see some announcements. I doubt we'll get a new 3DS but it was suggested we could get a Wii U name change so people will have the new name and then they can concentrate on more important things at their E3 conference.

As it's in Japan, we should know what was announced, if anything, by this time tomorrow/Friday.

New Super Mario Bros 2 is coming out on the 3DS :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,614 ✭✭✭Nollog

It's not a conference, it's an investor call.

There'll be a (mainly sales) slideshow, and that's it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,565 ✭✭✭✭CastorTroy

Last year's call was where they acknowledged the existence of Wii's successor, saying they would unveil it at E3.
Other previous ones involved 3DS announcments and January's call explained the Nintendo Network and the announcement of NFC tech for Wii U.
So they may use it to make small announcements that they would like people to digest before E3 so they can concentrate on the big things then.

    We'll see.

the indications are that there won't be much of interest from this, nothing that we don't already know about. E3 is 6 weeks away and there will be tonnes there, Wii U and with a bit of luck 3DS lite/pro!

and with a bit of luck 3DS lite/pro!
    lol

Think they said we'd hear something about the WiiU before e3 so maybe not something about that the 3DS. Animal Crossing, Paper Mario 3D, Luigi's Mansion, New Super Mario Bros 2, Kingdom Hearts 3D, Fire Emblem, Monster Hunter(I think), Super Smash Bros & Layton are coming to the west in the next few years but I certainly wouldn't cry hearing about a Advance Wars or Pikmin heading to the 3DS.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,565 ✭✭✭✭CastorTroy

I wouldn't expect them to announce anything for the west specifically at tomorrow's call as it'd be for their Japanese investors.
Though after reporting a loss I'd say they would want to have something to give them to reassure them instead of just saying "It'll be grand. We'll sell loadsa Wii U's and 3DS's and make loadsa money".

But E3 is only less than a month and a half away. Yay! :)

Man, an annual loss of $531.1 million dollars.

If only people knew how much fun StreetPass is.

On a more serious note, these figures are worrying.

So news from the conference includes:
Wii U: Release date and price won't be announced at E3. But the final version of the console as well as the software line up for the year will be. So unless they're referring to the fiscal year, it must still be planned on a release later this year. I thought otherwise at first when they weren't announcing a date

Downloadable retail games: Starting with New Super Mario Bros 2, some retail games will also be offered as download from the eShop. Wii U games will be available for download from launch. You can either purchase through the eShop, or you can download using a code purchased from a retail store. But it's up to the retailer to price them, so that'll be interesting to see if there's any kind of saving.
Customers will store downloaded titles on SD cards, but games will only be playable on the hardware that downloaded them. I'm guessing if you had to replace the 3DS for some reason, you can still redownload and it's just the previous download that wouldn't work.

    Source for most of this:

It's good to see downloadable retail titles anyway. Hopefully we'll see a similar situation as we had with the psp where niche titles that have no European publisher will just get released as downloadable titles.

    This.
Xseed have already committed to providing some digital only releases of games which wouldn't have been brought over anyway...good start :)

Renegade Kid also have a few titles originally destined for retail which are being released on the eShop instead.

Going to buy the new Animal Crossing in digital form anyway, it's the sort of game which this really helps!

Ah shure they still have 14 billion euro in the bank.

Releasing the Midnight Purple colour 3DS late May though (with Mario Tennis) so i personally doubt they'd announce a whole new model just a week later.

Ah thats good :) Cos I bought a new 3DS fairly recently. Besides, there's not much wrong with the current design.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,614 ✭✭✭Nollog

People should really stop being afraid of re-designs.
    Nintendo are not Apple.
They don't release re-designs every year.

The worse case is once in 2 years, which is very unlikely.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 11,835 ✭✭✭✭cloud493

I don't know. The DS lite came out a year after the original, hence why I was skeptical. Then again, the DS lite redesign was necessary.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,134 ✭✭✭gubbie

Other then making the screen bigger or extending the battery life there's little change they can make to the 3DS. Nintendo do make re-releases but it's not in the history to screw people over

After the gameboy came the gameboy pocket. Exact same functionality, but smaller. Then came the gbc which had backward compatibility

Then came the gba, gbsp and the gb micro. All essentially the same console, but with tweaks (back lighting, recharging)

Then came the ds. The ds lite was a remodelled ds but with the exact same functions (and had backward compatibility to the gba). Then came the dsi and dsixl which are relmodelled ds's but with download play.

THe 3DS is a new generation. Nintendo will have other models in the next few years but I'm pretty comfortable that the 3DS I have now will still be able to play the same games as the 3DS-xl-super will of the future.

People are just worried because of the Circle Pad Pro, thinking there'll be a 3DS Lite with a second analogue slider, and that future games will pretty much require one to play. But it's very unlikely; the "danger" period for that has passed IMO. Nintendo's own Kid Icarus only supported the CPP for left-handed control, and the add-on itself seems to already be quite hard to acquire. It's just another poorly thought-through peripheral which is heading for gaming's Great Big Dustbin of History.

Anyway, it doesn't make any sense for Nintendo to release a redesigned 3DS when the current one is just starting to find its feet after a poor launch. But having said all that a longer-lasting battery would be nice...

I think most people are looking(myself included) at the fact Apple releases a new ipod/iphone/ipad redesign every year and fearing nintendo will follow the same path :p

That'll be out after the Wii U.
They'd have a tough time having to produce DS Lites, DSi's, 3DS', Wii's, Wii U's, and 3DS Plus's in any decent volume if they tried to.
Once they get the Wii U up and running, they can only then start thinking of releasing a 3DS Plus.
I can't see them being ready for that until next year at least.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,565 ✭✭✭✭CastorTroy

Yeah I'd say it wouldn't be a smart idea to try and market a redesigned 3DS and the Wii U at the same time. I'd say they'll get through the holiday period this year on the 3DS as is then announce a redesign next year with a launch no earlier than June, so that those who purchase for Christmas don't feel too ripped off as they would if it was in the first quarter.

Another Nintendo Direct Conference tomorrow. 4 or 5 in the morning our time. Will just be concentrating on Wii and 3DS, supposedly.
Guessing for Wii it will be Dragon Quest X and Epic Mickey 2. Any other games you can think of? Maybe Project Zero 2?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 10,469 ✭✭✭✭GTR63

Surely a release date for Professor Layton and the Mask of Miracle in the whest. Maybe Pokemon Black and White 2 will get dated too.
Hope for more all the same.

Too much to hope for a "Oops, we forgot to show Wii-U Zelda at E3.... here you go!" ?? :o

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,565 ✭✭✭✭CastorTroy

It's only Japanese Direct so far. No word on a European or American one.

    European one.

Nintendo did say they'd be talking about future(not launch window) Wii U games before the end of summer.
    hype.

    Another Nintendo Direct tomorrow?
    http://www.joystiq.com/2012/07/13/fill-your-head-with-brain-training-info-in-next-nintendo-direct/

10 minute presentation on the next Brain Training follow up. Looks like Japan only

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,485 ✭✭✭✭Banjo

Makes sense, pound for pound they have more psychic kids than any other nation on earth, best they learn to control their powers nice and early*. Not as urgent for the other markets.
*Yes, I did learn everything I know about Japanese anthropology, culture and demography from Akira. What's your point?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,565 ✭✭✭✭CastorTroy

I saw that documentary as well, and if that Tetsuo kid had learned earlier in life that with great power comes great responsibilty there would've been less damage.

The Nintendo Direct can be found here
    http://www.youtube.com/nintendodirectch
Pretty much a talking heads starting around the 2:20 mark, all done with brain training style floating heads. Pretty mad. Only small bit of game footage around the 10 minute mark

These Directs are pretty regular now. Another one at noon today Irish time. again, Japan only about the new Dragon Quest.

Not specifically Nintendo, but there will be Wii U stuff if IGN is to be believed in half an hour.

Yeah they showed Madden and FIFA on Wii U and confirmed they and Mass Effect 3 would be available at launch

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,565 ✭✭✭✭CastorTroy

And yet another Japanese Nintendo Direct tomorrow, where they're just dealing with Wii and 3DS. No word on a European or American version. And there won't be any Wii U details.

Will get more Wii U info at the conference in America in a couple weeks

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 334 ✭✭jaydoxx

Hopefully its something new and amazing for 3DS, pokemon ruby/sapphire?:O

Edit: strictly speaking that wouldn't exactly be something new, would it?:p

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,565 ✭✭✭✭CastorTroy

Can't directly access a site to get details here, but from what I see from google news results (Remember these are all Japanese announcements):
New 3DS Layton, apparently his last game
    New game from Pokemon developer
    New Paper Mario trailer
    Animal Kingdom 3DS release date

Games we'll be playing on 3DS this christmas.
Layton, Sticker Star, Luigi's Mansion maybe, others.

Paper Mario is out December 7, Luigis Mansion early next year, Fire Emblem in Quarter 2.

Layton is out end of October and Guild 01 is being split up over here into 3 downloadable games. Suda51's is on the eshop now, and Aeroporter and Crimson Shroud are coming in November and December. i guess the 4th isn't coming.

Monster Hunter tri is out in March on both 3ds and Wiiu.

There's a sequel to Pullblox called Fallblox coming in November.

And the Pikachu 3dsxl is coming here for a limited time. There's also a new bundle that has Mario Kart preloaded. Older 3ds games like Super Mario 3d Land are going to be available to download.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,565 ✭✭✭✭CastorTroy

    Just over now.
Paper Mario Sticker Star Dec 7th
Luigi's Mansion and Fire Emblem Q1 and Q2 2013 respectively
Pullblox sequel called Fallblox which looks like it could be just as frustrating. :)
For the next 6 weeks 1 game a week will be discounted on the eShop. So this week it's Pullblox, starting now, supposedly
A Suda 51 game called Liberation Maiden published by Level 5 now available on eShop.
There were other eShop tites I can't remember offhand, but they seem serious about using the eShop.
Also Mario Kart 7, Mario 3D Land, Ocarina of Time and Starfox 64 are also now available to download from eShop.
There were a few Pokemon related news items, including the fact Europe is getting the Pikachu 3DS XL.
Europe is also getting a white XL.

Edit: Damn it, took too long. :P
