Most improved player this season?

We've had threads on the Team Of The Year and the Worst Player this season, so who do you think is the most improved?

It could be a player you thought was crap, but has gone on to prove you wrong this year, a player who moved clubs and made a step up, or someone who improved their consistency.

Mark Davies of Bolton for me has had a great season, in a poor Bolton team he had been consistently very good, and I previously thought he was a poor player, this year I've taken notice of some really good performances.

Most Manchester United fans will agree with Johnny Evans, had a nightmare against City in the 6-1 debacle, and was poor against Everton on Sunday, but aside from that he has been absolutely superb in the absence of Vidic.

Clint Dempsey has gone from being a solid player to one of the best in the league. He was always good, but never as good as he has been all of this season.

Others that I can think of are Daniel Sturridge, Victor Moses and Junior Hoillet.

Any more to throw into the discussion?

Good idea for a thread. Dempsey for me. As you say, went from being a solid performer and moved to the next level. Hope he gets his big move in the summer

    Koscienly for me.

    Jonny Evans, Michael Carrick.

Also from my own club Tim Krul has improved immensely.

Lucas Leiva for start of season when he was fit. I'll think of more I'm sure

Theo Walcott is probably the player who has rounded off his game the most.

Clint Dempsey was always very good imo.

Another shout would be Victor Moses.

    +1 for Dempsey

From a Spurs point of view Younes Kaboul. Has become a solid centre back and is now our first choice CB, his game has improved so much from decision making to positioning.

Clint Dempsey got 12 goals last season, was by far Fulham's top scorer and was voted Fulham player of the year. Victor Moses I will give you, he was mostly rubbish last year.

Walcott is as frustrating as ever this season and has been incredibly poor at times

Yakubu would be the obvious choice. Spent most of his time at Leicester City last season and didn't look up to much the odd time I did see him.

Would agree with that. Sturridge missed a big opportunity this year and I think his season has been over-rated. Most improved? No where near it imo.

Skrtel improved quite a bit for Liverpool imo.

Obviously Walker who won the YPOTY is another and Silva greatly improved overall on last season.

    from liverpool point of view,

martin skrtel, and lucas when he wasnt injured

He's shown to me that he's a lot more to his game. Maybe not the most improved all right but he added more to his game.

Coloccini has improved a fair bit as well although he was fairly good last season as well.

Lucas Leiva would be in the mix of it had it not been for his injury.

Why are people saying Lucas? He has been great for two solid seasons now and for however long he played this year. The guy has played for Brazil for 4-5 years now.

I get the feel Lucas will always be "improving" to some people.

Lucas was good the previous season

Grant Holt? I know he wasn't in the league last year but the step up he has made is very impressive considering where he was playing 2 years ago. I didn't think he would score 13 goals this year and its not out of the question that he'll get to 15.

Grant Holt has obviously improved massively from a lower league striker to a scorer of great goals in the Premier League.

He has improved though. Doesn't mean he wasn't good before but he was better this year imo.

De Gea was a liability at the start of the season, looks assured in goal now.

To echo what others have said, Coloccini, Evans, and Skrtel have all improved considerably in my eyes.

He's not the most improved player this season but an honourable mention goes to Ben Arfa who looked promising before his injury / at Marseille but has moved up a gear since.

stephen ireland has been a player transformed this year. breaking his balls for the team every game, and light years ahead of everyone else in the villa squad technically (not that that's particularly difficult)

    From the players already mentioned:

Lucas - Top player for past couple of seasons
Dempsey - Certainly improved but was far more than solid last season
Sturridge - Meh, mediocre player, suited for a mid table team, not that improved
Walcott - Still as aggrevating as ever, not improved much
Tiote - Toons best player last season
Jonny Evans - Certainly one of the most improved
Michael Carrick - Doing the same solid job he has been doing for years (no more, no less)
Koscielny - Good Shout, I would go with him

The Yak has to get a mention here. A major thorn in every opponents side.
Clinton Dempesy too but if he moves to bigger club could be next years Charlie Adam.
Jonathan Walters fisseled out a bit when nothing to play for bit but some big performances during the season.

No - Adam looked so good because Blackpool's lineup (4-2-1-3) was built around him and he took all the set pieces.

This isn't the case with Dempsey. He looks good because he is good.

McClean, although it's only his first proper season in the EPL.

Another good season next year and big clubs will come a knocking.
