hi, looking for adivce. I am currently trying to lose about a stone in weight. I have already lost a stone in about 6/7 weeks but the last 3 weeks I havent even lost a pound.

I run about 6km about 5 days a week (30Km in total). I swim 1km 3 days a week (3km in total). I am watching what I eat also, breakfast would consist of a bowl of fruit and fibre & brown bread. Lunch would be soup or mabey a light brown bread sandwich. Dinner mostly boiled vedgetables and mabey a boiled chicken breat or baked fish. Mabey once a week I might have something extra and I would also have the odd beer just as a way to relax on a night out after a week of training.

Everything was going along nicely I was losing about 2/3 pound a week. But lately I havent lost any weight and if anything my traing has become more intensive and longer sessions. I dont get it...

Has anyone any advice...?? Would appreciate any tips on what I need to do or what i might be doing wrong...

100% diet. Sounds like you're at the point where you need to start tracking kcals!!

I'd reckon you need to look at the portions you eat, particularly bread, but moreso the 'something extra' and the 'odd beer'. Those things will sabotage you.

Once you lose weight, the amount of calories that you need reduces, so if you want to lose more, you will need to calorie count and reduce your intake.

You have not said what height and weight you are, which is very relevant.

If you are already slim and want to lose a stone to be skinny, its hard, especially if you are exercising, and is not a good idea anyway.
you can only lose 2/3 lbs a week, if you are overweight. Once you are a normal weight, the last few lbs of fat come off much slower.

+1, you will see people losing 14lb in a week on these 'biggest loser' programs, and then they taper off later on.

Take measurements & photos of yourself, you could be losing fat and gaining some muscle, do not use weight as your only measure. I was about the same weight for about a year but was losing fat all the time, although I was doing weight training which you are not specifically doing but if people had atrophied muscle over the years I expect any exercise like swimming might build muscle back.

Thanks for all the info everyone, mabey I am just been a bit too eager to see the scales going down every week alright. I have got nearly down to a decent weight for my height (5ft 11 now at 12stone 4lbs.)

I think its is just a case that I am at a weight for my height and also I have to agree with the above, all the training especially the swimming seems to be toning things up a bit (less of the man boobs these days thankfully). Hopefully it is more muscle tone as opposed to just me not losing weight.

More patients on my part i think. Again thanks all for the info...

The important thing is not to get downheartened and fall off the wagon.

You are eating healthily and taking exercise. You have lost weight and have seen evidence that you are toning up.

Be positive and keep up the good work.

That could be what's happening. Are you male? If so, you are probably gaining muscle mass which is heavier than fat. Shift your goal from weight loss to increasing strength, stamina and speed. Keep calm and carry on. Don't focus on weeks or months but think about getting fit for life. You've done a monumental amount of work there and it's not unusual to hit a wall. Start to tweek your training to your body type. Keep learning all you can about nutrition and training techniques. A bit of light weight training will help with posture and overall looks. Keep up the good more. Oh, and if you're female would you be pregnant... ha ha

your body has gotten used to the change so switch it up, work on your nutrition, cal cycle or alter it so day to day its slightly lower as your cal needs have lowered but eat a little more on certain days.

Change something about your exercise and kick start things again don't do a 50% regain like I did I have lost 40 lbs since September but I've only really held onto a 26 lbs loss due to letting the scales wreck my head and motivation, oh and its okay to maintain sometimes bring up your cals without gaining for a while and then start again is a lot easier than sticking on low cals and not losing imo

Going to the gym is not a pass for eating a lot more food

The right way to loose weight is that first of all you keep a check on your calorie intake.Secondly you do proper exercise. If you are doing it this way then I wonder why are you not loosing weight.

you need to start doing some weighted exercise

cardio is only one aspect of fitness
