Any athletics clubs that cater for beginners?

Does anyone know of any athletics clubs in Dublin that cater for inexperienced, unfit people who want to get fit? Basically I want to get out and about walking at first but then running and I would love to find a group that cater for people who aren't too competetive etc. I don't think it would take me long to get fit but I find it almost impossible to go walking/running by myself(find it boring and there's no one to motivate me!) I know some athletics clubs do a 'fit4life' programme and these sound good but when I enquired I found out there were no walkers in the group(they've been meeting all year) and I would end up running after them on my own :( I'm not overweight or unenthusiastic, I just need suggestions!!

Where are you based? Fit4life groups tend to cater for anybody, you should be able to slot into any group with a walk/run especially at this time of year with the mini marathon coming up.

Castleknock. My nearest fit4life group is in Chapelizod but are pretty advanced at the moment. See, the idea of running after them on my own just doesn't appeal to me...it's not social for one thing! Have you personal experience of any of these groups?

Nope but I run with Donore where that group is based. I'm sure Barry or someone would stay back with you while you got a bit fitter. They won't (or shouldn't anyway as that defeats the purpose of the groups) be leaving you on your own.

Unfortunately someone has to be the first of a new group, do you know anyone who'd join with you?

You're a bit away, but the fitness agency in howth have a dedicated runnig group. It's like PT gym that also has a class style
Setup so may be worth looking at

I'm in the Phoenix park most Sundays and I see about 20 people running together then going for lunch in the visitors centre afterwards. Seems like a nice way to keep fit and get out with people. Don't know which club they are but I'm always tempted to ask.

In short, yes, there are lots of running and athletics clubs like that.
