Samsung ES6300 Freesat and Saorview at the same time?

Looking at the specs of the new Samsung ES6300 is looks to have a built-in digital terrestrial tuner and a built in Freesat tuner.
Does anyone know if this TV would do both Saorview and Freesat at the same time or would you need to change between regions and/or rescan to change between the two?

    Thanks,
    Daniel

Typically with the Freesat enabled TVs, there is a button which allows you to switch between the Terrestrial channels EPG (e.g. Saorview) and the Satellite channels EPG (e.g. Freesat).

BTW are you sure the ES6300 series are Freesat enabled? They are not listed on freesat.co.uk website. They many instead be standard free-to-air models i.e. they will only show 'now and next' on the EPG for the satellite channels. You would need to full model number and/or down the manual to confirm either way.

Thanks Apogee. I am not certain that it is freesat and not just fta. I have found it listed on UK websites as freesat hd but samsungs website just says satellite tuner. Will do a bit more digging.

Just as way of an update. I bought the ES6300 last weekend.
So far I am very happy with it.
I set it up For Freeview HD/Freesat.
This gave me all the Freesat channels and also picked up the Saorview channles.
The Saorview channels were put in the 800s but I was able to manually renumber them.
MHEG5 is working fine on Saorview giving me RTE Digital Text.

Saorview and Freesat are not on the one Guide, you have to change between the two inputs but I have full 7 day EPG on both and Red Button/Digital Text so very happy.

    That sounds very interesting.

    Pity it doesn't record!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 358 ✭✭dkane

If you connect an external hard drive you can record.
Obviously only a single satellite tuner so you won't be able to watch a different channel (at least not on a different transponder) while recording.

Recording satellite and watching saorview or vice-versa should be fine.
I haven't tried this out yet.

What size screen did you get and could you give us an approximate price?

A few photos of the Saorview and Freesat EPGs would be good too!

    I got the 40" for €900.
I can post some pics tonight

    Hi dKane,

Excuse my ignorance but doe sthat mean that you are picking up the Saorview channels straight from an aerial to ur TV without a STB?

Also I thought FreeView/FreeSat was just in the UK - or do you mean that you are getting the FreeviewHD/FreeSat using a Satelite Dish and Satelite STB?

    Regards

    Iba

This TV has a built in Digital Terrestrial Tuner and a built in Satellite Tuner.
When you are setting it up you get an option to choose Ireland or UK as your country.

If you choose Ireland you get Saorview and Free to Air Satellite.
If you choose UK you get Freeview and Freesat.

I wanted the 7 day guide, red button, auto channel updating etc from Freesat so I choose UK as my country and entered in a London Postcode when prompted.

That sounds similar to the 7000 series which I am not so happy about.
It is not possible to have DTT and SAT channels in the same list let alone epg. you have to change source input.
The nonsense is you can simultaneously list analog channels with SAT OR DTT. Source switching is through Tools options which makes this a real pain in the tool for such an expensive TV. A real black mark against what should be a better TV than it is.

Just one more question though, if you dont mind. Does that mean you have a direct feed into ur TV from your sat dish and Terrestial aerial. In other words, you dont need either a Saorview STB or a Satelite STB?

    Question for dkane:
I am interested in this TV. I need an audio L + R feed to feed an HiFi amp. (Which does not have a SPDIF i/p.) I don't think the TV has Phono audio L + R output. I could use the headhhone output but this is subject to the volume control, which could lead to confusion in the hands ot the non-techheads. Question is: does the audio output on the SCART always carry the audio associated with the video showing on the screen? Also, how easy is it to use the browser without the optional (€89) keyboard?

I got the 32 inch version of this a few weeks ago and set it up on the Ireland option. Both the Samsung and Rovi EPGs were absolutely dire. The information was taking ages to load and sometimes not at all.

Your suggestions are a much better solution overall with Red Button and an EPG which loads everything instantly. The one thing I've noticed is that Aertel takes a few seconds longer to load, but it's not much of an issue. Having to switch between reception modes (aerial/freesat) is only a minor gripe, so cheers from me mate!

Picked up this Samsung http://www.amazon.co.uk/Samsung-UE40ES6710-40-inch-Widescreen-Glasses/dp/B007JURGNI just over a month ago, both Sat & Terrestrial FTA working superbly.

    Amazing TV

I just got this TV, set it up as UK to get the freesat EPG.

How do I re-order the saorview channels??? Theyre numbered in the 800's and pretty jumbled up.

Sorry for taking so long to come back on this.
There is no audio L + R out on the TV just SPDIF and headphone.
I'm not sure about the SCART. I would assume that they are only SCART in and that they cannot be used for sound out.

Using the browser with the remote is a pain.
I have a Samsung S2 Smartphone. There is an app for the phone which allows it to be used for input. This works much better than using the remote.

Sorry to drag up an old tread but I'm looking for some help to tune in both saorview & freesat. When I tune in one I lose the other...help please?! Its a samsung series 8, say I tune in freesat first then when I go to Menu-Broadcasting-Aerial and then choose Air and try to tune in saorview stations I get a message telling me I will lose all stations already tuned and I do, I lose all freesat channels?

  • Moderators, Science, Health & Environment Moderators Posts: 20,144 Mod ✭✭✭✭Sam Russell

    OK, I have a Samsung ES7000.

To tune in Freesat, you must select Country=UK

So, select the Freesat and choose your postcde - I use SW1A 1AA which gives London, but for Belfast, use BT1 1AA

    Tune.

Then change to Aerial and select only Digital, and tune. Make sure you deselect any others.

This will put the channels into the 800s.

Press Smarthub and select Channels over on the left. This will allow you to edit the list. It is a bit of a PIA, but you move each channel to its desired number (1, 2, etc.) and then save them.

It may be different on other series.

Look back on this thread for more info.

Thanks a million for that Sam. It seems to be working for me now, I have a f8000 series so the only thing now thats now working for me is to switch between the two...when I press channel list as suggested here and then the red button nothing happens...it doesnt give me an option to choose air, satellite, freesat etc...I have to go through the menu long route...how about your 7000 series...how do you switch?!

The F and ES are different generations. You could try reading the manual.:)

There is even one on the TV.

Believe it or not...I have gone through the e-manual on my TV and googled my queries but I am not finding answers to my specific question...I think there are very few people who use the TV for Soarview/Freeview and Freesat so it's not really catered for. I generally only post looking for help on boards.ie as a last resort, but thanks for the reply!

Connected a cable for the first time recently to tune in the satellite channels and then lost my Saorview channels. I have an ES7000 and found the 0nline manual to be useless.
Followed Sam Russell's advice and tuned in Freeview rather than Satellite, by using a Belfast post code. Then tried to tune the digital channels by switching to Country to Ireland and using Air. Got the Irish channels but lost the Freeview ones again.
    Hope somebody can help?

FreeSAT, not FreeVIEW. It's the same channels as you'd get with non-UK country setting, just with a proper EPG. And you'll lose the Freesat features if you swap country back to Ireland.

Anyway, can't a country change only be done as part of a 'factory reset', so you'd wipe everything anyway?

I presume you realise you have to swap sources between satellite & terrestrial? The channels won't all appear in a single list.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 562 ✭✭✭joebre

My mistake, I know that Sam Russell's post said freesat !
Yes it was asking me for a password to reset to Factory defaults.
Still not sure how to swap between Inputs as only see TV.
If I go into Tuning and change from Air to Satellite, the channels change to Satellite without needing to tune again.
There must be an easier way, that I cannot find !

  • Moderators, Science, Health & Environment Moderators Posts: 20,144 Mod ✭✭✭✭Sam Russell

You cannot change the country code. Use Country = UK.

    Press [Menu]

    Goto Channel

Select Country = UK (2nd item)
    Select Aerial = Freesat
    Go to Autotune
    and select Freesat

You will be asked for a postcode. Use BT1 1AA for Belfast, or SW1A 1AA fot London.

The TV will tune the satellite channels.

Repeat for Aerial. Select Digital only (not analogue).

Now, exit menu and select satellite. You should get BBC 1 on 101, BBC2 HD on 102, etc. [That is for London - Belfast might be different].

Change to Aerial by pressing [Ch List] the [Red button A] and select Aerial.

Now press [Smarthub] and move left to the satellite icon labelled Channel and press OK.

This will list the Saorview channels on the right.

Move the cursor down till you find RTE One. Press [OK] to select this channel. Then press [Tools] and move down to Edit Channel number. Move the cursor to the new number position and type '1' and press [Ok] [OK]

Repeat for each channel you want. There are 18 in all, if you include the radios, and then there are 3 or four test cards. You can delete the blank channels and the data channels.

Press [exit] and you are done.

    Good luck.

PS - I may have missed steps and it is awkward to do it, so if there are mistakes, you will have to do it again.

Remember, there is only one country setting for both satellite and aerial, so if you want Freesat (which you do) then it has to be UK. If you have Country=UK, then the Saorview stations are all in the 800s in random order and need sorting but once you have done that, you should be OK. It does not help that RTE/2RN have put 38 blank channels into the mix. I would try to put the stations in the Saorview order, but you do not have to if you want a different order.

You can record from the TV EPG if you add a USB HDD, but it has to be formatted on the TV. I have a low power one that works quite well.

"Change to Aerial by pressing [Ch List] the [Red button A] and select Aerial

Thanks Sam Russell for the extremely detailed reply. Scanned for Free and got BBC1 at 101.
Then scanned for Digital/Air and got the RTE's in the 800 range.
Went in Smart Hub/Channel and could only find the RTE's there

Cannot use the Quote option but I am having a problem with the advice quoted in the top line above. Is there a button <Ch List> as that is where I am running into trouble.

    Thanks again.

The [Ch List] button is below the zero [0] then the [Mute] then the [Ch List] button. It is directly above the [Smart hub] button.

It is only the Saorview channels that will be there to be repositioned, and you cannot reposition the Freesat channels. They are fixed.

Great advice Sam Russell. Don't know why I could not see that <Ch list> button !
Saorview channels edited and moved to 1,2, 3....
Last question, the red button gives me Air, Satellite and Freesat.
Is there a way to remove the Satellite option ?

  • Moderators, Science, Health & Environment Moderators Posts: 20,144 Mod ✭✭✭✭Sam Russell

    Specsavers!

Do it all over again, only this time do not scan for Satellite, only Air - digital, and Freesat. Do not scan for FTA satellite.
