Best time to workout?

So find myself unemployed as of late and really want to get back into the gym to kill a few hours.

There are a few types of memberships at my local gym and one is the off peak membership, which is a fair bit cheaper but runs from 7am til 4:30pm.

Full membership is all day and is an extra €200 for the year.

Now I get up at around 9:30, get breakfast and do a few things, and have lunch then about 12/1 depending. So would it be a good time to head up at around 2 or half 2? I'd normally have a snack before dinner and dinner at about 6.

I would opt for the full membership if it would give me the results i'm looking for, to burn body fat and gain some muscle mass. And full membership wouldnt mean i'm restricted, but if working out before dinner is the better option then it's what I'd go for.

    Opinions??

    Thanks in advance

Whatever time you can make your workout! There's no magic time!
2-3 hours after a meal or 1-2 hours after a light feed, 0-1 hour snack works for me just so i'm not completely bogged down by food! This article has a slightly different time frame to what I do, like everything though it's subjective!

Why not shop around for a gym with a better price??

There doesn't seem to be much options in Enniscorthy really? Will be moving just outside it there and there only seems to be the one in the hotel at the river and waterside pool and leisure centre, each around the same prices..

Big question is, if you get a job, is that membership them unusable? Perhaps they'd let you upgrade if the time comes. Worth checking out regardless.

Re: time of day, it doesnt matter once its not literally straight out of bed.

I could upgrade possibly for a slight discount. Will cross that bridge when I get to it, it's done on €100 up front and then €25 a month for 10 months afterwards, through direct debit. Would be handy for me as being unemployed at the minute, getting the lump sum together can be difficult

    why is this?

Not trying to nit pick but this is when i do a lot of my training as find its the only time the gym is empty enough for me to work out in comfort. Usually get up, eat something small, either a protein muffin (got recipe on here somewhere) or 2 boiled eggs, drive to gym and workout. Would be on the gym floor approx 30 mins after getting outta bed.

Do you mind me asking would that be it for the day then? What about your calorie intake for that day, how would they be burned, in the next morning's routine?

    Thanks :o

Should Probably clarify and say that heavy spinal loading/lifting is what I was referring too. Lighter training/cardio could be ok.

Reason being - the fluid status of your intervertebral discs makes them more susceptible to injuries.

I do all my training in the am, though it's about 1-2 hours after I get up.

Heavy is relative :) There's a higher risk of a guy squatting 200+ having trouble than a guy in the low 100s.

Just be sensible about it is all I'm saying. Take every step you can to be as ready as possible!!

I meant to put heavy in quotation marks there the first time, ill be a long time off 200+ so wont be sweating it too much.........yet.

Thanks for the feedback though Hanley

Here's a good article that explains most of what you might want to know about working out in morning.

    http://www.ericcressey.com/workout-routines-6-tipsadjusting-to-exercise-in-the-morning

Other than that my only advice would be pick a time that suits you best and becomes part of a routine.
