Has anyone done this before? Are there travel expenses?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 651 ✭✭✭Condatis

There's no mention in the application form of travel expenses.

When they recruited for the census there were travel expenses and there was no requirement for car for those living in large urban areas.

I applied for both jobs and it took me more than 2 hrs to fill out the form. The application was very detailed for the supervisor position - and prob will go to all previous supervisors. :( Might not even get a chance at interview......

Thanks I was one too last year so I'm hoping it counts for something. The email I got from them said its to create a 3 year panel, all seems very vague.

Does anyone know if there were only about 50 Survey Interviewer positions going for the whole country?
I would have presumed that the CSO would have been inundated with applicants for the Survey Interviewer position, so i wonder why they felt the need to inform all the 5000 approx census enumerators that did the census job last year that this position was being advertised last month.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 153 ✭✭edenbridge146

I was a census enumerator last year too, however the CSO did not inform me of this recruitment campaign. I regularly use their site for my studies and noticed they were recruiting for this 3 year panel so decided to apply.

You can subscribe to their recruitment site www.publicjobs.ie and automatically get sent whatever job information you sign up for. I seemed to have ticked all the boxes and now I get emails for every single government recruitment drive, it just means I don't miss anything.

I got an email yesterday and have an interview in Ballina on Tuesday afternoon.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 65 ✭✭pinkhardhat

Had interview yesterday, I was the first one in and could hear the 2 inside trying to sort themselves out before hand!!

Anyways, my interview was just total rundown of the application form, each question related to a "scenario" as they called them and it was just basically elaborating on them.

    20-25mins tops.

I was asked how did I feel the public reaction was to the census last yr( I was an enumerator for that) also how would I get someone to do a survey that asks them how much they earn in a year.

Panel will be formed in July, but its mainly to provide sick leave/holiday cover. They were grand infairness but at the same time it was all a bi vague. Like if you make the panel will you ever get work out of them or not.

Anyways fingers crossed something will come out of it and best of luck to everyone who has an interview!
    Keep us posted!

When I clicked on submit when I finished my application, it automatically downloaded a .pdf file of what I submitted, Might be worth checking your downloads folder in you "my documents " on your PC.

Good stuff, it was by pure chance finding my Kindle downloads that I found mine there!
Best of luck, like I said previously it is all about rehashing what you said on that form already. Just a pity I didn't know that Sunday night at home!

I had my interview last week and they gave me a copy of my application form to refresh my memory. I applied for both positions but didn't make the cut for interview for supervisor. They were quite positive in that they talked about 'when' I go for training rather than 'if'. We'll see..... Said they'd let me know by the end of the month. For anyone going for interview, don't worry they stick pretty rigidly to your application form. And don't forget - only positive experiences about the census!!;)

I wonder if you are not successful in getting an interview will you be let known. I applied for interviewer job, previously did census 2011 , but have heard nothing yet so am assuming I wasn't picked.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 302 ✭✭tannytantans

Husband just got an email this morning, for an interview next Thursday so don't give up hope yet :)

So must be more than one interview panel

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10 Claretjug

Does anyone know if the CSO have taken anybody on for either the position of Survey Interviewer or Field Supervisor since the Panels were set up?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 564 ✭✭✭steph1

No and I have heard nothing from them.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 65 ✭✭pinkhardhat

At this rate the 3 years will be up before we get any work from them

    Anyone get called for training?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 88 ✭✭embereve

I got a call last week for training as backup interviewer, but it is in Thurles and I live in Dublin - really doesn't suit me. Not as if i was actually being offered any work, just the chance to be an understudy. Not a lot to be offered after 10 months!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15 Tuschinsky

I got the same. I am in Dublin too, everyone going is from Dublin and Cork apparently. I am doing it. I reckon since I went to the trouble of interviewing etc I might as well as otherwise I will be burning my bridges with them. You get paid for the training and expenses are covered so nothing to lose. By the sounds of it you are pretty much guaranteed some work after it, though not sure how much. It is disappointed to be getting so little so late alright.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 88 ✭✭embereve

You're right to go for the training - I would too except have a confirmation next week and really can't hike off to Thurles. Any other week and I'd probably have gone too. Would be interested to hear if you actually get any work on this survey. Am disappointed that almost a year after making the panel that nothing's come up yet, apart from this. Good luck!

Hi anyone been called for interview yet for these jobs? have interview on Monday and wondering what questions they may ask?
    thanks

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 732 ✭✭✭weadick

I got in the panel for the next three years. Pretty disappointed as I have a lot of experience in this kind of job.

I'd imagine it would be the same as most civil service interviews which are competancy based so just have a lot of examples ready.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15 Tuschinsky

The usual interview questions and questions about the examples you gave on the application for dealing with different scenarios.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 651 ✭✭✭Condatis

I didn't apply for the panel because of the requirement to have a car.

There was no such requirement when I did the Census in Dublin.

Is access to a car still a requirement for the panel?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15 Tuschinsky

Yes a car is vital. For the Census you just get assigned one area close to your home for the duration. For this you would be working in a different area every week.
