Tracking Mailto links with Google Analytics

Hi everyone,

I am trying to set up a Mailto Event using Event Tracker on Google Analytics for my company but I am experiencing some problems. This is the code I am looking to put in.



<a href="mailto:mail@mailing.ie?subject=mailing.ie%20Comment%2FSuggestion" onClick="_gaq.push();">mail@mailing.ie</a>

When I check the reports, it does track the event and states that it is there. However, it only tracks one click per event, so I cannot see exactly how many people clicked the e-mail link.


Does anyone know what the problem is here? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I track email - but simply as a 'campaign medium' - however this might help

Thanks for much for getting back.

I just tried the code there but it didnt work for me. Do you know of any articles that I can find that can help me track the clicks of mailto links using campaign medium, as you suggested?

Any help would be greatly apprciated. Thank you for your time.

Tom,
It a bit down an dirty - but it tracks when a link is clicked that leads to a site (as in a signature link in an email - if you get the drift).

So in the link I have a web address - with is a click through to the site. The html behind the hyperlink would be someting like

http://www.mysite.ie/?utm_source=email&utm_medium=sig&utm_campaign=email

Or as a link:
<a href="http://www.mysite.ie/?utm_source=email&utm_medium=sig&utm_campaign=email&quot; target="_blank">

</a>

Give it a shot and see if that works for you. If you want to pm me with the finer details i'll have a look (promise nothing!)

Plus - they may take a bit of time to filter through to your analytics (by you'll see them in your log files)
