    Only 1 contender, RVP.

    RvP, the Midas of football this year!!

    If Silva had kept up his pre christmas form then he'd win it.

    He didn't so he won't.

    Did you really leave Antonio Valencia out of this list?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36,466 ✭✭✭✭SlickRic

    wow, this isn't even a contest in reality.

    RVP.

    an on-form Silva or no on-form Silva.

    Arsenal are playing well now so it's easy to forget, but good Christ, he got them some amount of points when the team was a bit of a shambles.

    This award has proven to be a bit farcical in recent years with the two undeserved Welsh winners shall we say. Probably should go to RVP for consistency and for almost single-handedly keeping Arsenal in a respectable position. Think Rooney has been outstanding in recent times (well apart from the last two games) but up until about Jan he wasn't at his brilliant best. I'm still convinced David Silva is the best player in the league and I feel people are over exaggerating his recent dip, he still has been very good just not as effective. His form up until late Jan was magic really and in recent games he has began to find it again. Thought I'd vote for him to be different :D but I would be delighted to see RVP win it.

    Missed a good bit. Tbh I wouldn't rate him as highly as the people nominated either though he's still a fantastic player

    Scott Parker wasn't anywhere near the top 6 footballers in the league this season. Football writers player of the year last season too which was never deserved either.

    Prob would have Sessegnon and Valencia in there.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,656 ✭✭✭cgpg5

    Actually I wouldn't have Parker up there! Papiss Demba Cisse all the way haha :D

    Missed a good bit(don't forget the career threatening injury he suffered to his ankle), but has ended up with the same amount of assists as David Silva, despite stints at right-back.

    RVP all the way.Consistent all season.Arsenal would have been fooked without him.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,906 ✭✭✭✭PhlegmyMoses

    Valencia has been as good from a stats point of view as Silva. Silva is more aesthetically pleasing and also more essential to City's form than Valencia is to United's, though, which will all count against him.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 33,954 ✭✭✭✭CSF

    Seriously, those people who voted for someone other than RVP. Wtf are you playing at?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,584 ✭✭✭Rekop dog

    @People saying Valencia missed a bit of the season, so did Silva, he just happened to be on the pitch.

    RVP

    RVP italicized for me. Maybe it's because you voted Silva and I voted RVP? Anyway, explain yourself!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,416 ✭✭✭Jimmy Iovine

    For everything that RVP has done Rooney is only 2 goals behind him in all competitions and only 3 goals behind in the league charts.

    I'd probably still go with RVP but only because he is the main man for Arsenal.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,979 ✭✭✭Vurnon San Benito

    It's laughable the amount of players that should be on that list and aren't.

    As for Scott Parker & Joe Hart? Are you having a laugh?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 833 ✭✭✭Ganymede Glow

    RVP without a shadow of doubt.

    I was half expecting Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes to be there. Thankfully they're not.

    Silva up to christmas was the only player close to RVP, easy choice.

    Cake, and grief counseling, will be available at the conclusion of the test

    Haha that would be it... Everyone voted RVP why not be different, had Silva hit his form patch after Christmas everyone would be raving about him.

    Needs more Clint Dempsey

    Robin van Persie for me. Without him Arsenal would be in trouble.
    Vincent Kompany has had a great season too.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,656 ✭✭✭cgpg5

    Is it asking too much to have the great Coloccini nominated? Without him we wouldn't be top ten imo

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,584 ✭✭✭Rekop dog

    It's no exaggerating saying you could easily draw up a list of ~25 players more deserving than Parker.

    When were the nominations votes cast does anyone know?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,041 ✭✭✭Havermeyer

    Van Persie.

    Without his 27* goals - the nearest to him is Walcott on eight - who knows where Arsenal would be.

    *League goals.

    The obsession in England with Parker is annoying, good player but not one of the best .

    No Newcastle players?
    Tiote, Ba, Krul?

    Arent the winners picked 2 months before the season finishes? They should not be nominated until season end.

    Clint Dempsey and Vincent Kompany deserve nominations.

    Dempsey's season speaks for itself, not just in terms of his goals, his all round play has been brilliant.

    Kompany also deserves an honourable mention for being a colossus for City this season.

    What really astounds me is the following:

    PL Table:

    United -> Rooney, fair enough
    City -> Joe Hart, laughable.
    Arsenal -> RVP, deservedly so.
    Spurs -> Parker, HOW!?
    Newcastle -> Not one nominee, how?!?!?!
    Chelsea -> Nominee in Young Player

    RVP hands down for me

    slight chance he won't finish top goalscorer though

    Talk about lighten up I would be fairly sure they won't consult this poll in arriving at their decision so no need to be worrying about what I think. Someone voted for Parker ffs

    RVP had a great season and I'm a big fan of his. He'll get it no doubt and fair play to him hope he stays at Arsenal.

    Just trying to figure out how the shortlist is created. I think it is that every player votes for his two winners and then the top 5 or 6 or whatever are nominated and then the voting starts again from the nominees, am I correct?

    i think the shortlist is picked by a panel, and the players then vote on the short list

    Think Kompany deserves to be there ahead of Hart .

    Looks like Stuart Pearce and Trevor Brooking picked the shortlist. And Scott Parker was the captain

    Rooney(pen) has been excellent, but if RvP had Mr Topsy Turvy diving in the box every week he'd have a few more
