Paul McKenna - I can make you thin

I'm new to this so bear with me :) Just wondering has anyone ever tried the Paul Mckenna - I can make you thin books/cds/dvds? I'm just finished the book which has a 90 day journal... I'm currently on day 4 and feeling very motivated. I think the reason I'm finding it so good is because it's not an actual diet. I'm now eating more consciously, which makes me realise when I'm full. I'm listening to the cd every day so far which is very relaxing and when I wake up from it I instantly feel more energetic.

You're not allowed to weigh yourself for the first 2 weeks so fingers crossed I loose a few pounds! I'm hoping to loose about 3 stone. Any comments would be greatly appreciated :D;)

hi, no i have never read any of his books or seen his dvds ,aldo i have seen him on television a few times and i suppose he is quite convincing, i might buy his book and give it a try , i know when trying to lose weight its so important to have the right attitude and motivation to keep you going, so im sure he will help.... are you on any kind of food plan or is it all just how you think about food and loosing weight??

From the psychology standpoint of eating well I would imagine his stuff may be of benefit. So for those who binge or 'fall off the wagon' time and time again it may help. Some people certainly need better psychological habits when trying to drop body fat/ eat more healthily.

The only downside (again I would imagine, as I havn't actually looked at any of his stuff) would be that he is not a nutritional expert, so some knowledge of what good nutrition actually is would be needed by the consumer in order to get the best results.

I mean its all well and good being motivated to change and feeling like your eating well, only to end up 6 months later with disappointing results, wondering why your diet of Special K, wholegrain toast, low-fat yoghurts, and WeightWatchers microwave meals didn't work.

If you want success at anything, educate yourself on it.

It's all about 4 golden rules, but the funny thing is that there is no meal plan. In fact he encourages you to throw out every thing in your cupboards/fridge that wouldn't be a joy to eat. The main rule to follow is that you eat more consciously (he gives you the techniques to do this) and by eating slower you actually realise when you are full. I've done this for ever meal so far and guess what? I've ended up leaving half the food on the plate and being satisfied.

I've also not snacked or binged. The best part being I've eaten what I want.. he also talks about diets as well apparently only 9% of diets actually work. Which I believe, but there are no forbidden fruits in this book. The CD is excellent, I wake up and feel energised. I got my book for about 20e in easons, so far it's worth every penny. I got the one with the 90 day journal which is excellent for keeping track. Just checked and they have it on Amazon and it's got rave reviews too. Best of luck with the weightloss :)

I agree he is not an nutritional expert nor doe's he pretend to be. What he does do is teach you self control, so you feel full and you know when to stop eating. Also he teaches you techniques to get "in tune" with your body so you know what it really wants. I've found myself swaying more to fruit and vegetables this week even though I know I can eat what I want. I've also being drinking a lot of water recently too and I haven't had a soft drink since I started, which for me they really are my downfall :o So far so good, another 8 days to my weigh in so I'll let ye know how I get on :)

I'm aware of just a few of his pointers, like chewing slowly and putting your knife and fork down to get the mind out of just gorging. Just make sure what you're eating is healthy too. This method sounds a lot like starving the body (like that documentary called Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead...about juicing). Ensure you're getting the right nutrients and in the right amounts.

I've never seen that documentary, sounds terrible..especially the "nearly dead" bit! I can only go on my own experience and I can definitely say I don't feel starved. He does talk about anorexia and bulimia as well in the book. He advises that if your body is being starved it will think there's a famine coming and when you do actually eat it will store everything as fat as it doesn't know when it will receive it's next meal. So by doing this, it can be more harm than good. Thank you for the concern, I seem to be swaying more towards the healthier foods than the processed crap or sugary highs :)

It's actually an amazing documentary, well worth a watch just for the change the guy makes.

    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1227378/

I think it's just a title to shock you and make you watch it. The 'nearly dead' might have been an exaggeration.

Thanks for that :) Just watched the trailer there on imdb and it looks really good. I actually laughed out loud when he said "I look like I've swallowed a sheep". I'll have a look for that online. Seems inspiring, especially when he is helping the other guy too. Dunno if I would be able to drink juice and only juice for 60 days with nothing else. Fair play to him though!

    Hi there.

Have been reading the book over the last week and started the CD yesterday. Was just wondering what you do when he asks you to count down from 300. I stopped after 20 or 30 counts, mainly just out of laziness. how far do you count down to.

I wouldn't be so sure of this. Could just be that you're particularly motivated and also conscious that he says you will be leaving food on the plate.

lol I had to laugh when you said that because I was thinking the same thing! I usually get to about 250 or 260. I'm not sure if you are supposed to count down the full 300. I find it distracting with him in your ear and trying to count backwards at the same time. How are you finding it so far? I'm one week in now and I seem to be doing ok. I'm trying my best to follow the 4 golden rules :)

To be honest, I know when I'm feeling full now. Before I would eat what ever was on my plate and some times go for seconds if I liked what I was eating. I think because I was a fast eater I never really understood, when I had enough. One of the rules is always eat when you are hungry so I always do and I can say as some one who loves their food, I haven't felt deprived. I'm not sure if it is working but I know I'm eating a lot less than before. I'll know in a weeks time when I weigh myself

I'm into meditation and would like to do something guided that would boost self esteem, positive ways of thinking towards food and feeling well but I am not sure about the Paul Mk stuff when it comes to anything like counting down, chewing slowly, leaving food on plate as it starts making me obsess.

There are all sorts of techniques in the book. The counting down is relation to the cd, where he asks you to do this. You don't have to leave food on your plate, you just have to stop eating when you are full. You do have to chew slowly though.

I'm not an expert on Paul Mckenna or anything. This tread was meant to see if there was other people who have tried it. He isn't a nutritional expert and it isn't a diet. The main aim from what I've gathered is to change peoples relationships with food.

Only a few days in with the CD. Listening to it in the mornings before work. Certainly more conscious of what im eating now, only eat when im hungry. still finding it hard to eat slowly though, finding it very unnatural, will take a while getting used to I suppose. Although, I dont feel any more energetic after listening to it. will give it a couple of weeks and see how it goes.

just wondering if there's much difference between his books, was looking them up there and there's the 'I can Make you thin' and one with the '90 day journal' and another that's 'I can Make you thin; Love food, lose weight', kind of tempted to go with the cheapest, unless recommended otherwise? thanks!

Cool let me know how you get on. I'm still doing it, I've lost 6lbs and I'm 2 weeks in today. I'm exercising a bit more tho, so that's probably helping too! :)

as far as I know the 'I can Make you thin; Love food, lose weight' with the 90 day journal is the newest edition. The original book is about 5 years old. It really depends if you want the one with the journal and free cd/dvd. It has pictures as well and I don't think the older one does. Think the content is pretty much the same tho I think!!

Thanks a mill, off 6lbs so far so I just hope I can keep it up

I'll make sure to have a look into The Juicemaster too :)

    6 lbs in 12 days?
    Is that a good thing?

6lbs in 14 days, yes I would call that a good thing :)

    Sounds dangerous

    1 lbs is 3,500 calories so 6 is 21,000
    21,000/14 = 1,500 calorie deficit a day

I think 1 lbs a week is the normal recommended target.

Depends on the starting weight, plus those 6lbs are not pure fat, it'll be water and glycogen too...
