    My home race :)
Haven't done it in a few years... might just this year. Excellent race...and a week earlier than usual if I'm not mistaken?

A great race last year, on my calendar for this year. The poll last year says it all - 32 runners, all giving the race 5 stars.

Ah yes, meathcountysec. I had last Saturday in June in my head, I can see now that it's not necessarily the same thing as the 4th Saturday! :(

Does anyone know if this sells out or if I am safe enough leaving it as a last minute entry?

2 weeks holidays prior to the race so want to leave entry until I get back :)

This will be my first 10k run, so am looking forward to this. I can also give an iron-clad guarantee that the €100 won't be coming anywhere near me............

Can't guarantee awt but they had around 800 entrants last year. Your mileage may vary.

This race reduced me to a walk at the top of the hill in the heat last year.

    Top race nonetheless.

I'm going to try this, to see if I can improve my mini-marathon time of 64 mins.

I only started running seriously since January, and as i do more of these races i see my times getting better, they're such an incentive.

I assume registration is at Dunshaughlin AC?

I assume the race starts at Dunshaughlin Athletic Club - could you tell me whereabouts it is, as I'm not familiar with Dunshaughlin!

Here is the race HQ location and also the route for the race.

Hope to see you all there again this year. Don't forget the suncream ;)

    Anfearruaaris...

Are you intending on having the chip mats at 5k & finish again? The only let down last year was that it was gun to finish, with 1000 starters its pretty chaotic at the start. It would be more appealing if the mats were at the start and finish rather than at 5k, when they serve no real purpose.

That aside, my most enjoyable race of 2011.

Agreed but compared to other races you have runners spread across two lanes, position yourself well and it should only be a matter of a second or two.

    Hi,

We will be having the 5km split time again this year. This has proven to be very popular with runners as it allows them see there own and others split times.

We will have timing sensors attached to the race number and not using the traditional chip tied around the ankle.

We spoke in detail about the start area and we are very fortunate to have what is probably the widest starting line in the country available to us. This gives more runners an opportunity to start as close to the front as they wish and also will allow those behind to cross the start line faster.

Erecting a starting gantry or using timing mats to cover the full width of the start would be very expensive and as we have always maintained that our event should be as affordable to as many as possible, we believe that the couple of seconds it takes to cross the start far outweighed the additional cost.

Also, if the start was narrowed, we believe that it would lead to a very chaotic start as you can only imagine the rush to get with lead or indeed other groups of runners.

Remember our event is just €15.. thats €15 euro ... there are very few races anywhere in the country which offer a race for this price let alone give t-shirts (first 500 registered) and everyone gets food and tea/coffee afterwards. We are a small running club with a big heart and are looking forward to having another record entry for 2012.

oh, one thing you could do would be to mark the start line clearly beforehand, even just a few cones and a bit of tape, when you have the road closed. Easier to start as close to the front as you wish when you know where the front is, and there aren't 300 on the other side of it :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 42 anfearruaaris

Yep, We'll have it clearly marked. I agree, it's far easier get people in line when there is a line!

Or at worst coming within 8 minutes of the guy who does :)

I disagree. Mats at 5k is a great idea. Its very useful to know your 5k time, it lets you know where you stand at that exact moment in the race and you can use that information to take it up a notch and run a negative split.

Yeah 15 quid is really good value. My favorite race on the calender, been looking forward to this for a year.
One question though, whats the story with the link to past results? Hasnt been working for a while now.

I'm looking forward to this - in a sadistic sort of way... Have huge demons from last year where an attempt to break 50mins for 10 went horribly horribly wrong. :( Fingers crossed for good conditions!

If it's anything like the last few years, there'll be a mini heat wave.

Normally is plenty of parking on the grounds alright.

This is one of those races that you don't need to worry about the incidentals, there's loads of parking, registration is fast and efficient, there's always a great welcome from the whole town really, it's well marshalled and the spread afterwards is top notch.

The 5K splits are only available afterwards, not as you pass over the mats.

Theres a mat and a clock at the 5k point. Also theres a few lads who stand at this point and call out your 5k split to you and your position in the race as you cross the mat, so you're getting real-time feedback as to where you're at.

Always enjoy this race but I've only ever run it in the sunshine. Hopefully the rain holds off.

Now all that's needed is too avoid running a crazy fast first mile :D
