I think England need Paul Scholes to come out of international retirement for the euros, he is still the best midfielder in the country and this is how they should line up

    Hart

    Walker/Smalling--Rio--Terry
    Cole

    Parker
    Scholes

    Lennon
    Gerrard
    Walcott

    Rooney

Joe Hart plays for City doesnt he?

Also, who else do you think should be there? Richards? maybe but Walker has been very good and Smalling should really get in that team somewhere

They'd have about the same chance regardless of whether or not he came out of retirement

Out of curiosity what City players would you have?

Hart definitely, Richards definitely has a case against Walker and Smalling. Perhaps Johnson on the left. Barry in the middle maybe, but I'd take Carrick and Parker over him in that role. So it's not imcomprehensible that only one City player would be in the first 11 really.

You could write up 100 combinations of teams and players it doesn't matter, its how they play as a team that matters. Spain are a collective unit with some of the best players in the world, England don't even have a manager.

Meant outfield. Johnson and Richards should be certs, can't see Barry/Milner being far away

Johnson can't be a cert. He doesn't play enough, I do like him a player, but still. I'd prefer to have Young on the left tbh.

And reckon Lamps should be in there as well, maybe instead of Gerrard.

Young wouldn't play enough if Nani valencia were fit all season, I'd nearly throw Johnson on right, some man to cut inside. England don't have great options out wide tbh the Ox should start but won't

Johnson is by no means a cert. He's an option, but I'd imagine Young is much more likely to be picked, and rightly so. Also Smalling has been very good on the right as well as Walker, Richards is no cert either.

Dont want him anywhere near our team for the summer

Johnson does not warrant a place, neither does Milner in the starting 11 or Barry.

    As I said, maybe Richards

    A) that team is rubbish.

    B) The english players have such deficiencies that they'll never win even with the excellent Scholes

The only Young will be picked for is Team GB's diving squad.

If Scholes did come back, I think you'd have to put Carrick in with him since they've developed quite a good partnership. It's also why Welbeck should play with Rooney up front

Gee I dunno I rate Johnson highly but I respect your opinion but there is a lot of tough calls to be fair. Who knows what team will be put out

    No, no they wouldn't.

    Hart
    Richards Smalling Ferdinand Cole
    Carrick -- Scholes
    Walcott -- Rooney -- Young
    Welbeck

Well that yeah, coupled with getting on the OP's back about there being no City players when there actually was one. It was a little childish picking on my post too just cos I posted a minute late

Paul Scholes is retired from the England team since 2004. He would not be as effective playing for England now as playing for United. He does not like the spotlight hence why he retired from the England setup.

Since when did he retire from international football because of the ''spotlight''?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,656 ✭✭✭cgpg5

    If I was in charge

    Hart

    Richards
    Terry
    Smalling
    A. Cole

    Parker
Wilshere (if fit, if not Barry)

    A. Johnson
    Gerrard
    Ox-

Rooney (Wellbeck till then (who else))---

    I await a slating with interest :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,116 ✭✭✭Professional Griefer

    Ox??

Ah come on. The young lad hasn't played too much football this season, he's a great player with serious potential, but starting him at the Euros. Not a chance. And I already said my bit on Johnson.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,704 ✭✭✭G.K.

Ox should start, he's just a class above all other wing options.

    It really should be

    Hart
    Richards - Ferdinand - Lescott - Cole
Parker----Wilshere (If not, Lampard or Cleverly)
    Milner
    Rooney
    Ox
    Welbeck

Who's better though? I don't rate Young or Walcott. Out wide is a position England are weak in. Milner is quite limited, Lennon is impressive but I'd have him on the bench

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,211 ✭✭✭Owen_S

He is the best English midfielder right now, and providing Wilshere isn't fit, they should ask him to come back from retirement. Parker and Scholes would be an interesting midfielder partnership, one that might even work.

As for City players, Hart is an obvious starter. Richards deserves to be in the squad, weather or not he should start ahead of Walker is debatable(I think he is overly reliant on his pace to make up for his lack of positional awareness). Johnson, Milner and Barry haven't done enough recently to warrant a starting place.

Young has been in great form for England, and his theatrics will if anything be even more effective, and the English don't seem to mind controversial decisions going their way as long as it results in a trophy.
    Hart
    Richards-Terry-Ferdinand-Cole
    Parker--Scholes
    Walcott--Wilshere--Young
    Rooney

That might work, although it would be an advanced role for Wilshere. Rooney being the only world class striker is a problem. Carrick has been shown up in Europe this season, and as good as he is, would crumble when pressured on the ball as much as he would.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 11,631 ✭✭✭✭Hank Scorpio

There isn't a hope Wilshere is going to the Euros

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,656 ✭✭✭cgpg5

Leaving out JT is a bit much imo, he might lack pace but he still plays with great heart and is a fantastic leader. I don't care who's given the official captaincy JT is still the main man out there. Lescott is very overrated imo, made look good by Kompany me feels

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,704 ✭✭✭G.K.

Ask xavi6 about how Lescott has done this season

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,954 ✭✭✭✭dahat

    Hart

    Walker Terry Smalling A,cole

    Parker Scholes

    Walcott Gerrard A young

    Rooney/WEllz
