Around 25-30mins into an ep of Countryfile you get this little gem of a segment called Adams Farm.

It follows him every week throughout the year, covers everything from lambing, sowing stuff, rare breeds, new farming tech, training new dogs, coping with winter....whatever he's at that week.

You don't have to be a farmer or into cowshit to enjoy it (I'm not:p), it's really interesting. After awhile you get to hate seeing stuff go wrong for him on it!

Tonight at 19.00 Countryfile starts so around 19.25 if following normal running time.

Like Jimmy Doherty use to have....I like the 10min slot, it's all interesting, no fillers. If they could keep it like that over half hour or an hour even it would be a hit.

TESTING TIMES DOWN ON THE FARM

It's time for Adam's cattle to be tested for bovine tuberculosis once again. This week they're inoculated in the first stage of testing for the disease, in a few days the vet will return to see if any of the animals have reacted. A reaction can indicate infection and cattle that are identified in the test must go for slaughter.

Last Autumn Adam lost two of his white park cattle. It was a real blow and this time he's hoping the herd will be clear of the disease. You can't sell cattle from an infected herd, but even if Adam doesn't have any infected animals this time his herd will be routinely tested in six months' time.

To get a sense of just how devastating this disease can be, Adam visits a farmer on the verge of giving up his herd of rare long horn cattle. Dai Bevan has championed this rare breed on his farm in Llanarthney, South Wales, but half his herd are going to be slaughtered after reacting to the test. Adam's there on the day the cattle are due to be slaughtered.

Must have been on holidays last week.
Several weeks ago the first of Eric the Bull's offspring arrived on the farm and Adam Henson appealed to the viewers to help name them. The only rule was that they needed to begin with the letter 'M'. On this week's show he reveals his chosen names. Adam's herd of Irish Moiled cattle are the first breed he introduced to the farm after taking over from his father. He only has a small herd and interbreeding can happen very quickly, so Adam is looking to add a new stock bull. He meets up with Chris Ball from Uttoxeter in Staffordshire, who keeps one of the finest Irish Moiled herds in the UK - and has a sixteen-month old bull for sale. But will Adam want to buy him?

This week Adam Henson takes his best rams to the Traditional Native Breed Show and Sale, celebrating its 10 year anniversary in Melton Mowbray. This is the place to be seen when it comes to unusual and rare livestock. The competition's fierce as farmers show their finest cattle, sheep and pigs - in the hope of winning rosettes -- and then fetch a good price for them at sale. Adam has a busy couple of days. He's showing, judging, buying and selling sheep.

    Like Father, Like Son
While Countryfile farmer, Adam Henson and his father, Joe, take a very personal walk down memory lane to reminisce about the time when it was his dad telling the world about life on the land. Long before Adam took to the screen Joe starred with television royalty, Angela Rippon, on the rural magazine programme, In the Country. As they tackle the work on the farm, Adam reminisces about how his father's passion for preserving rare breeds and love of traditional methods of farming still inspires work on the farm today.

    Adam, Pigs and Longhorns
Adam Henson is heading to Golden Valley in Herefordshire to find out about the benefits of farming pigs in the woods. Ray Harris has been keeping Tamworth pigs for over 15 years and keeps them in woodland to clear the undergrowth and help regenerate the land. Later in the programme, Adam visits fellow farmer Russell Bachelor on his farm in Somerset. Russell and his family have recently moved into new areas of business after their dairy herd was struggling to make a profit. Adam is particularly interested in Russell's herd of 80 Longhorn cattle and how they graze and survive in the woodlands.
