Just thought I'd post after reading a lot of threads over the past few months.

    Does anyone else think it's gone beyond pathetic for the following reasons ;

    1. The Liverpool - Man U divide is beyond belief, and the constant point scoring, trolling and (to me a bigger crime ) the reactions to those posts clearly designed to provoke a response. If you don't bite, then these trolls will eventually go away and do it somewhere else.

    2. The real vs fake fan nonsense. If you decide to allow your team's result dictate your weekend then that might make you a bigger fan but a far more immature person. Anyone can support any club, they don't care the reasons why, it's a brand and clubs, and TV, just want to maximise the money from it.

    3. The LOI vs " real football " debate. If someone decides to support a different team, let them enjoy it. Does it matter if they disagree with your view? Be confident you are right, believe you know better but just let them be.

    4. Response to valid questions - ie " Are xxxxx and xxxxxx done ? " - which started as threads looking for opinions then became just blinkered views and worse still have progressed to gloating threads such as niallo's "
Are Moyes and Everton done " 4 minutes after Liverpool scored a winner. Really, do you need to provoke reactions to enjoy a win?

I used to enjoy the forum but it's just degenerated to the point where it's just full of internet warriors getting kicks from winding up people who they don't even know.

I thought the restricted access was to prevent all this, now it seems people are nice and educated for 1st few posts then get dragged down to pettiness.

I expect to be flamed as no doubt people feel criticised but I couldn't really give a damn to be honest.

PS - Villa fan, we are ****e, I'll deal with it ;)

The forum has gone to the dogs. No doubt.

My opinion on the whole thing is that forums are just people giving their opinions.

i.e So what if someone thinks Carrick should be sold. Will Fergie read these forums and then decide to sell Carrick? No.

    Basically nothing really matters.

I think the average age of the posters here has decreased dramatically this year. You see a lot of the more experience/better posters posting less and less because they have to put up with the constant drivel and trolling of some, that added with the fact boards is becoming bigger and bigger you are getting a higher amount of new posters who are more than likely younger and quite socially retarded.

    Just my guess tbh

Any mention of United in a Liverpool thread or of Liverpool in a United thread by anyone which has nothing to do with the point in hand, should get an immediate 1 week ban. 2nd time you do it gone for a month.

i've been looking at this forum for about 8 years now and all of those things have always been there except for point 4.

infact everyday for the last couple of years i see rants that the forum has gone crap. perhaps, like most things in life, people get bored of stuff after a certain time and look back at the past with tinted glasses.

The "don't be a dick" rule needs to be more enforced imo. So many bad posts clearly baiting and trolling get away with it for some unknown reason.

That is bullshít to the max, tbh. Both G.K. and Eathrin are two of the better posters around here and they're both under 20. Despite being a Leeds fan G.K. gives great unbiased opinions in the United thread on a regular basis.

Some of the(what I presume are) older posters around show themselves up to be complete asses on occasion.

Personally its posts containing snippets such as the boldened bit in yours that turn me off the forum........ I don't think there is any need for it.:( We were all young once and inexperienced in the art of adult debate and understanding!

Certain posters gave me a pain in certain places but the longer I'm here the easier it is getting to ignore them and I've found that the vast majority of them get found out anyway and get banned.:)

Every forum I've ever been on regularly has threads like this that hark back, misty-eyed, to the halcyon days when people weren't retards and the forum was better. I have news for you: people will always be retards.

The forum wasn't actually better and the people who had registered a few years before the time you were remembering were thinking the same thing you are now.

    Basically, chill bro.

Seperate forums needed to replace the larger club threads so the troublesome, blinkered pondlife that congregate within them can be siphoned off and the SF can be returned to its glory days.

Agreed, we should give them their own section. Liverpool fans here in particular seem to have an inferiority complex and a victim mentality. I have to agree with all 4 points from the OP.

But I also think the mods are doing a good job. The forum is more relaxed than it once was and less nilly willy infractions. The posters should be able to police themselves with a more laissez faire attitude from the moderators.

At the end of the day its down to the posters and not the moderators. The forum is basically United vs Liverpool with a few militant LOI fans thrown in. Everyone else keeps to themself normally.

Rarnes fishing for likes from his Liverpool buddies. Surprisingly they have been very bitter towards Moyes today even after winning. Much like Dalglish embarrassing himself in his Blackburn post match interview. No class.

Anyway, I think this thread belongs in the Feedback forum.

I like this forum. Just come in here to the United thread for news and such. And newly created threads with general news.

I come here everyday and read a fair bit, so by now I know who the 'bad' posters are, and I just ignore them. But sometimes I do bite.

Ignoring most of the rubbish, this forum is fairly good tbh.

You're using a post complaining about posts winding up other supporters to wind up other supporters.

As for your millitant LOI fans remark, I would consider the LOI regulars to generally be of relatively little hassle for the mods. The intra-club spats in our threads are never too serious or long-lasting and the supporters of different clubs generally get along by and large even if there is banter and arguments. Even the relatively tame barstool stuff is generally an opinion, albeit an unpopular one, rather than an attempt to troll. To say LOI supporters in here require as much moderator effort as, say, the constant troll warfare between Liverpool and United is ridiculous.

I know G.K. is an excellent poster (one of the best on boards), haven't come accross Eathrin tbh but I obviously wasnt taking about posters of their ilk more the likes of DB10 and a few others that make most threads unreadable.

What amuses me about this forum is that you make people apply for access to it. When I found that out I thought it was a great idea, people have to prove they are not just here on a windup, but are posting honestly.

The reality? This forum is trolled to hell and back, and the mods do sweet **** all about it. They couldnt spot a troll if one kicked them in the arse.

Oh well, thats the internet for you. It does make the "apply for access" thing a real sham though.

Posts like this are exactly why the forum has gone downhill so bad.

And it's not a case of rose tinted specs looking into the past, nothing of the sort, the forum always had 'issues', but they're out of control now.

has anyone other than Muppet been banned for that constant trolling thing they brought in a while ago? Just cutting out the undesirables would be grand...the majority of Liverpool and United fans are grand, some are a bit too precious and some are just blatant trolls who are out to get a rise out of these and then everyone else gets dragged into it.

The forum has never been a bastion of reasoned debate and insightful comment.

I do think the quality has dipped some though the past 12 months, and there are some particularly telling absentees.

To improve things you would require highly active moderators willing to make judgement calls and be subjective. That will isn't there (and it never will be).

Global boards.ie policy has undoubtedly made forum level moderation an awful lot more difficult. The 'close account and start up again under a new alias' option can only be a nightmare.

I'll guess you've never been to boards PW forum so. We havent had threads like this one, why? cos the forum was at one time a horrible place to post in similarily to the state of the soccer forum atm (and it has gotten bad here).

How was that changed? Well, new mods came on board (not me, I now have a cushy job where I barely mod thanks to those before me) who made effectively one big change and inforced what is spoken of below.

This forum as PW was then (and it isnt at all now) is full of "dicks" (not gonna use a team america metaphor here) and to put it simply they need to be gotten rid of in a swift and effective manner. Good posters have been lost because they are either sick of the nonsense or they have gotten down to others level and o whats that pig in dirt quote... well you get the idea.

Personally im posting less and less in the soccer forum in general and put simply dont see that changing unless the soccer forum somehow changes.

One of my mates (whose name I dare not mention:p) was banned for being the bane of existence to anyone who did not support Chelsea. But I think most people saw him as more fun than anything serious, but he trolled once too often and was banned not only from Soccer but from boards.ie in general!

I don't post in here that often anymore, as it has gone that you can't say anything without getting jumped on and so on. Sometimes in the 'fun' threads, I'll post, but I won't get involved in any of the more 'serious' threads, as it is just destined to end in tears...

The standard has definitely dropped but its because a lot of really good posters have left or moved on or whatever.

There is far too many people who are just here to pick on anybody who spells something wrong, or says something not exactly correct. Its the same guys all the time that do this. Then you have the guys who take every opportunity to wind people up. There are far more of them these days than there was a few years back.

Maybe people could just help the mods and restrain themselves from arguing with people who they know are trolling. Instead of expecting vigilant mods, why not just use your ignore function? Have a glance through the threads today, almost to a man the guys complaining in here have been the posters giving the WUMs what they're looking for.

I'm going to presume that the PW forum has far less activity than this one, correct me if I'm wrong as I have never and will never look at it. It is way easier to be vigilant on a less active forum. Maybe they need more mods on here?

Anyway, that's enough from me. I'm not really that bothered. Just reckon people should be a bit less precious.

You have been stalking me all day, without addressing my points.

There is nothing wrong with the forum. Nothing at all. It's the posters on it that's the problem. There are too many Liverpool supporters on this forum. Anything is said against them, they gang up on you like we've seen in this thread. I have been targeted by Liverpool FC fans today, tomorrow it will be someone else.

There is no discussion with certain posters. It's just point scoring, people posting pictures (which should be banned if they are not football related) and thanks whoring.

A quota of certain club supporters could be an idea?

No. Mine was a well reasoned response to another dig from rarnes.

This forum is as good as it ever was, anything else is just looking back with rose tinted specs.
What would make this forum better?

Tbh its just very uneven between the sheer amount of Liverpool United supporters on it, any activity is when these clubs play.

The Team threads although absolutely necessary mean that a lot of good topics never really see the light of day in the Forum as a whole and that when they do it ends up as a mickey swinging contest between the fans of the big clubs or the clubs involved.
