Yes I applied for this one too. There was a lot in the application form! I wonder were there many applicants for these positions. I'd say they're mostly looking for newly qualified's with LLM's based on salary etc. but I'd love it if I got it. Anyways good luck with it!

I applied for this as well.I am just finishing off my LLM and am planning to sit the FE1's in september.Would love a job like this to be honest for the experience alone but the money is decent as well. What is the general consensus about the Irish speaking element of the job...Would it be much of a help to have it?

Where is this advertised? Seems to be gone from publicjobs.ie, or has the closing date already passed?

I applied for one of these positions as well but I havent heard anything back yet either!

I applied for this position and found out today I haven't been successful. Just wondering if anyone has been successful? I was quite shocked as I thought my LLB, LLM and 2 years research experience would have put me in with a good chance of at least getting through to the next round...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 33 Scrabblebabble

Hey I got put through. They said out of 204 applications 45 got through. I think that's very few applicants considering it sounds like a pretty sweet number! I speak fluent Irish so maybe that's more important than they made it seem.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2 bananapie

Well done! Would you mind telling me what qualifications you have? Just to give me an idea of where I fell short. Perhaps they did place particular importance on Irish...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 47 June Bird

I did'n t get put through either :(.I have a professional legal qualification and I have been working in research for almost 3 years. I'd say the fluent Irish helped alright. Well done to those who got through and good luck in the next round!!

Does anybody have any idea what the written assessment may entail? Should I start reading my old FE1 notes?!

Not a clue- I'd imagine it's more based on your ability to review and summarise than actual legal knowledge- but that's a completely unsubstantiated guess!

Hi, I was just wondering what everyone is planning on wearing to this tomorrow- smart casusal or formal?

I know it is just an assessment, but it is better to be overdressed than underdressed. I also think it will be based on the ability to review and summarise rather than expert knowledge on a specific area of law. How are you guys preparing for it?

    Thanks for your help.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 33 Scrabblebabble

Honestly I'm doing nothing to prepare. What would you even do? I'm going to dress pretty casually for comfort!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,096 ✭✭✭ImDave

I am going to look over the basic grammar rules/syntax and the likes that I have lost over the years I think! So do you think the hour long assessment will simply be a judgment and we will have to review and summarise it? I think it will. I was thinking maybe legislation aswell but that wouldnt be fair given the time contraints, it takes me ages to read a case never mind write up a summary! Hopefully it's not a boring area of law! Thanks for that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7 lmtm2012

I agree and reckon the assessment will just entail reading and summarizing....very hard to prepare for! I am going to wear office clothes (not a suit)....good luck all!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,096 ✭✭✭ImDave

Ok thanks alot for that and best of luck to you also!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 33 Scrabblebabble

I have a feeling this is going to be a crash and burn for me! No idea what formally summarising a case involves :s

Also: do you mind me asking if you are Irish speakers as well?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,096 ✭✭✭ImDave

I am quite nervous too, as I honestly find it difficult to summarise judgments concisely. However, I would imagine a lot of people do. And an hour honestly isn't that long! No, I am not an Irish speaker- do not have a word of Irish as I was born in England. So maybe it was down to your research experience, and not your ability to speak Irish? But I do not know! I wonder how many positions there will be, as they haven't specified that anywhere?

I think I might have been slipped in due my Irish, don't have a huge amount of research experience. This would be amazing for me but I'm not holding out much hope! Nice to be invited though :P

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,096 ✭✭✭ImDave

I'm not either- but no point going in too defeated! They wouldn't have asked us to take the assessment if they were not interested. Remember that and best of luck!:)

    Thanks, you too :)

What did everyone think of the written assessment last Thursday?:confused:

    Found it very hard. You?

Really bad. Don't know what I was expecting but it certainly wasn't what I thought it would be! The question assumed the topic had been researched yet we weren't given any materials. I thought it was very odd ... I have a lot of research experience but I wouldn't hold my breath ...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 33 Scrabblebabble

I don't really know what they were looking for! Hard to tell how you did I guess! Does anyone know when they'll let us know and how many positions there are? Thanks!

Actually, it's probably good news for you - I got an email today but it was negative. Well done to all who make it to the interview stage! Fingers crossed for the AO positions ...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 33 Scrabblebabble

Thanks for that glimmer of hope and good luck with the other positions you're going for!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,096 ✭✭✭ImDave

I actually heard today and got news, so its strange that they havent informed you either way. Would you ever contact them?!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7 lmtm2012

o i agree.....i think they only decided today on interview selection so they probably were not able to email all the people who sat the assessment this afternoon. So all is not lost! good luck with it :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,096 ✭✭✭ImDave

Exactly and I got my email just before 6 so I daresay they clocked out soon after, you will probably have an email in the morning...Dont worry, is any one else nervous about what this interview will involve? I am actually so shocked I got called, I thought I did brutal in the assessment!
