Isostatic Processes - Geography

Ok, I was just wondering if anyone could explain the general concept of this to me. My Geography teacher decided not to cover it and I'm trying to do it alone but I'm not sure that I understand it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

When theres a big huge glacier or heavy object on the earth it gets misshapen - like sitting on a couch. But the ice melts, like you standing up, and gradually, like the chair, the land rises back up Its not all at once though so its uneven, forming knickpoints and all that, making all those features like paired terraces

Its a pretty confusing concept, I tend not to question it a whole lot but its also pretty interesting
