The Soccer Forum was originally setup as an alternative to some of the less intelligent soccer discussion sites found online. It's main attraction being rivalry and friendly banter coupled with intelligent discussion about the beautiful game. Unfortunately, keeping this atmosphere proved more difficult than the mods could handle, with an influx of a small group of posters whose discussion skills were "lacking". Strong moderation was in place, people were banned but the real problem was with compulsives who just had to re-register their accounts to get the last say or just to cause disruption.

Faced with a choice of allowing the soccer forum to degenerate into the free for all of flaming an abuse that other major soccer forums had become, or revamping the forum, the Admins and Soccer Mods decided to close the forum. After consultation with the Admins, Gandalf introduced an access process to stop banned users from re-registering to cause trouble. A number of users were permanently banned and new users had to meet certain criteria to gain access via the Soccer Access Requests Forum.

I think its reasonable enough. The idea that you need x amount of posts and be registered for a while is good. It stops the majority (some still slip through the net) of gob****es posting pure rubbish in there.

Just go to planet football.com or soccerway etc, tbh I found it the same, total pain in the hole tryin to just post a few opinions about footie. Too much hassle imo

well that's fair enough..but having to apply for permission to speak is a bit degrading...surely they can just boot out any dumb asses making stupid comments..anyhow i`ll plow on towards my 50th post....i`ll have a look at them other sites...usually just stick to the good ol bible of truth that is the sun.....

Given that you are only new here I suggest you get to know how the site works and if necessary ask a few polite questions to get more information, rather than throwing your weight around like some stroppy teenager.

Approximately 5,000 posters who have access to the forum would disagree with you and have no problem with the system.
surely they can just boot out any dumb asses making stupid comments

if it were that simple don't you think that that's what would be done? Ensuring that people have to wait for access and put a bit of effort into gaining it ensures that the forum isn't inundated with one-post wonders creating disposable accounts with the sole aim of stirring trouble.

stroppy teenager?? eh i asked a question and i was given a childish "yawn" in response....5000 people probably don't mind because they already have access to it!! what about the others that aren`t able to access it...and its degrading as in the same way as its degrading when you walk up to a night club and the bouncers tell you that you cant come in until you`ve been to the pub below 50times without being drunk...and did ya ever think how many users that are lost because of this?? football is the main topic between most males aged between 12 and 90....but i accept the rules and look forward to my 50th post and my one month milestone (thats if they let me join)

    Your 100% right there smcgiff.

I'm a Celtic supporter but on the Celtic Thread there seems to be more r@ngers supports at stages most of whom seem to get away with murder even if you report them, I gave up on it, as it's a load of sh!t, I drop in for a look every now and again but that's about it for me now. I couldn't be bothered commenting anymore......(I have thrown in the odd like now & again).

It's over a month now since I've commeted in any thread on the Soccer Forum & you can be sure that if I went in to comment today I could just carry on from my last few posts as if the last month hadn't passed as they would still be crapping on about more or less the same sh!t.

But people post lots of rubbish on every other thread I'm assuming. Why is it different in the football forum, I now wonder, as the subject is broached?

Is it because the moderators assume, to a large extent, that football is merely comprised of reactionary apes that would start an argument at the drop of a hat? Maybe it is, maybe it isn't. We probably wouldn't get a straight answer on that one.

It's degerated into a very small group who just talk to eachother about stuff they agree on.. Anyone who disagrees, gets a bang of the mod hammer..

I used have access in a previous life.. Couldn't be arsed this time round.

Have a lurk and you'll see what i'm on about.

I disagree Squ, I often read through the forum, I have access but don't often post. There are some great discussions on the threads there; but as always when it comes to football, you get a few idiots who know nothing about what they are talking about, so instead try to troll rival fans in an effort to raise tempers because they have nothing valuable to offer. I hate to see this in threads and it side tracks the discussions.

Disagree away.. Thats what foura are meant for..

Lets put it this way. I'm a true red all my 32yrs. But if i went onto the liverpool chat thread and spoke anything near the truth of liverpools last 15 years of sh1te id be carded for trolling.

ie; if your opinion doesn't toe the party line, you're out.

Anyway, i'm dragging this tread off topic. So in short OP, lurk for a while and see if boards football chat is what your into.

The application process is handy enough.

There was no assumption involved. Soccer didn't always have restricted access. It was changed because it became absolutely impossible to moderate it, largely because of "reactionary apes that would start an argument at the drop of a hat". No other forum has had to restrict access because they don't have anywhere near the problems that the soccer forum did (although I think it was mooted for Politics at some stage)

It's already been touched on in the post above, but the amount of trolling that goes on in the soccer forum is unbelievable.

I used to regularly post in the United thread but because of thread derailing by constant trolls , I probably on post once a week or fortnight in there.

That's only one thread. Imagine what goes on in the other threads. I wouldn't post in the Liverpool/Arsenal/Chelsea threads as I'm not a fan, but a lot of posters go into threads just to wind people up.
I know it's banter and a bit of a laugh, but some of it is a bit OTT.

I still enjoy reading the threads and having the occasional input.

    I have got access btw.

A fellow red I see where you're coming from. But often it's a fine line whether something is perceived in earnest or just having a poke. In soccer, the level of abuse hurled around the place tends to be at a way higher ratio than in other forms of meaningful discussion, which is why I think there needs an application process.
