    Hi Guys,

My house was broken into last night, my keys lifted and the car driven off. They took nothing else.

My car was a Red BMW Coupe 335D, Reg "07 LM XX5" - Its the only red 2 door 335D of that year, 2007. I live in the Dublin area.

If anyone sees a striking Red BMW Coupe (red is a rare colour in these cars) that is a 335 please contact your local garda station. Absolutely devastated :(

Thanks to all for reading. Theres some pictures of what it looks like below. I had different 17" alloys on it.

I live in a private gated estate. They were visible if they hopped the gates and walked 50 metres to my house and had a peer through the kitchen window.

They came in the back door. I had an expensive video camera and money right beside the keys. They only took the keys.

The Police said they had already been to another 2 houses in Dundrum. I live in Cabinteely. A Merc and another BMW were taken, all diesels. Its the same guys according to the po-po; same technique to get into all 3 houses.

The robbers have a shopping list and unfortunately my car was on it. They must have been checking the car and house out for a while.

jeez thats a bit close for comfort, only down the road from you.

talking to a guard I know locally, he says that if the keys aren't visible theres a good chance you'll be ok but not guaranteed. says they look for cars, check which houses have keys visible and hit them. obviously if keys aren't visible and its a rare enough car then your out of luck.

mind saying what the technique was so we can try prevent it?

a look around ballyogan , or more likely the ethnic minority camp near leopardstown roundabout / bewleys may be in order - ive heard of a few ending up there.

Sorry to hear this OP, I really do hope you get it back undamaged but I have a sick feeling cars like these are stolen to order and it was probably on the first ferry out of the country before it was missed. :( If they only took the car and skipped the money and camera then I doubt very much they will burn it.

335's seem to be a target of late, sorry to hear. More than likely to be used in a robbery than shipped out of the country, hopefully it turns up.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 51,479 ✭✭✭✭bazz26

There is big money in selling these stolen type cars on, alot easier and less noticable than robbing a bank or post office too.

    Stolen to order looks like
    Seems a pro job,
Dismantled to a certain extent, Shipped in parts,
    Rebuild at destination,

2 door coupés aren't ideal getaway cars. Export or broken for parts is way more likely.

OP, hopefully it'll be parked up somewhere for a while to check for a tracker and be spotted in the meantime. I'll keep an eye out anyway. A red 335 coupé will be easy to spot if it's out and about.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,661 ✭✭✭Voodoomelon

Yeh, could well be. Just the last 2 I heard of were used in robberies, maybe shipping out is the ultimate goal.

I threw a link this up over on BMW-driver.net. OP, you might as well put the reg up here, i don't see the point in keeping it secret now.

Did you have the car for sale recently? I'm just wondering if it was identified from a for sale ad.

I hope you get it back, there's been an amount of car thefts especially BMWs reported on this forum of late.

my 335i was taken from the same area of dublin last year. Not stolen to order, turned up used in a robbery on crime call. Hope you get your car back OP and have a happier ending than I did. Sorry to hear about this, a beautiful car.

Thanks for all the kind messages.

There is no way of knowing if it will be stripped, exported or used in a robbery; only time will tell. "argosy2006" pointed out that it may be on the way to Africa. I tried that link you posted but there was no answer from the shipping companies, today being a bank holiday. The robbers may have planned it so well that there would have been nobody there in Cork to do anything about it.

The original reg is 07-LM-735. The rear tyres (Michelin Pilot Sp3 - Rubbish Tyres, don't buy) are due to be replaced. If they push it hard into a bend or its wet, they will lose it completely.

The car was never for sale, nor am I on Facebook and I do not have any pictures of my car on the internet. They definitely were checking out the car and house for some time. I'm not too bothered about the car at this stage. I'm more disturbed by the fact that I was being watched so I could be robbed.

Thank you "rebel.ranter" for posting the link across. Much appreciated.

    Again, thanks to everyone!

Very sorry to hear it, red is pretty distinctive for a 335 so I'll be keeping both eyes peeled.

Was it an se or msport? Although i rarely see red 335ds in either spec

Its an SE. The front has the sport add-on lower bumper. The rear has a small spoiler. 17" Alloys, Michelin Pilot SP2s on the front, SP3s on the rear (worn). Full black leather, sun roof would be some of the immediately identifiable features. The car also has Pro-nav which gives the dash a double waving curve.

The car looks like new inside and out.

I'm nearly sure martin reilly motors in sligo had that car for sale over 2 years ago. He had 2 red 07 3 series coupes- a 335i and a 335d. Those cars really are becoming a target at this stage. Hope you get it sorted asap.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,525 ✭✭✭kona

Gone to africa within a day over a bank holiday weekend? wtf?? Most these cars end up parked out of the way in order to make sure there isnt a tracker etc installed, Then they head off to be used for whatever these scumbags intend them for.

Jesus that's awful.... I think I'll have to start hiding my 335!

Feel gutted for you man, hopefully she'll turn up safe and sound.

Was there much fuel left in it ?

Got it from Martin Reilly nearly 3 years ago.

Nothing through tolls yet. There wasn't much fuel left in it. There is 2 24hour stations beside me. I'll check tomorrow when there will be a manager in.

Do you not have some kind of a recovery system like Lo-jack? If I had a car as nice as that, I'd probably invest in something like this. Might bring down insurance cost too.

I guess that's the power of hindsight. I hope you find the fsckers who took it personally and leave them unable to drive ever again. Punishment fit the crime and all that.

    Hi Sunny,

We were one of the houses in Dundrum that was done last night. They took a ford focus. Gardai said they were probably after the Merc but only the keys for the focus were accessible. They were visible from outside. The other house in the estate that was done had no alarm and was completely stripped including their BMW. When they came home the kettle was hot. Pretty scary. Bad times.

Just to clear up op, what rims were on the car, your first or second picture??

Did they make a cup of tea??:confused:

if they cant find the keys off the car they are looking for they will wake you up with the boiling kettle held over your head or your partners head or your childs head!

My keys are kept down stairs on the kitchen counter, less than 1m from the kettle. if they have the experience to get in through my hall door and through the alarm of the house then i dont want them waking me up, i can get a new car tomorrow.

People on here think the boiling kettle job is a myth but where i live ive heard people talking about it being done many times!

There's a suggestion that if these people cant find the keys that they'll come upstairs and threaten the occupants of the house with the kettle full of boiling water.

I think that sums it up nicely.

ive actually witnessed a break in with the kettle on, But it was actually some scumbags sitting in your mans kitchen drinking tea and eating his kit kats, they legged it out the back door as soon as they heard the front door being opened. Hopped all the walls until they were gone.

Its bull****, these lads want quick in quick out. They have little interest in confronting home owners with kettles of tea or machetes, its not mogadishu you live in. They will quite happily move on to your neighbours house who has there keys out on display.

When i say i heard, i mean from the horses mouth ;)

They will not move onto your neighbours house if the car they want is in your garden. If they need a RS6/M5/<Insert Car Here> and i have one, they will take mine, they will not move onto your neighbours Mondeo just because im asleep and csant find my keys.

I can't really understand why folks are so adamant that folks who break into a house at night to steal a car worth €20/€30k ish when they know the owners are at home would be unwilling to resort to a threat of GBH against someone who is more or less defenceless.

These chaps have their homework done, they know exactly who owns the car etc etc and they know that there is next to no chance of that person putting up any fight when it comes to it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,935 ✭✭✭randy hickey

My understanding of the boiling kettle scenario is that it's to be used by the scumbags in the event of an attack on them by the householder.
They are too cute to be carrying anything on their person that could be construed as an offensive weapon, in case of a stop 'n search by AGS.
In a similar vein, I have witnessed one house post break-in that had the knives taken out of the kitchen and placed strategically around the house.
OP, I sincerely hope against hope that you get your motor back.

Maybe if you aren't being specifically targetted for the car you have, if you are they can be quite determined.

I also have knowledge of someone being attacked in their home for their keys, it wasn't with a kettle however and luckily while the owner was holding one of them off the other found the keys and they left.

They were willing to attack someone significantly larger then them to get the keys.

quite simple then, dont buy an expensive car unless you are prepared to outlay on a proper alarm system, lights and security post behind the vehicle.

Offensive actions are better than fannying around leaving keys on the side board.
