I'm classed as being overweight in some BMi calculators and a normal weight in others.

I'm 15 stone 1 pound. I'm 6 foot 1. I know I am losing another stone at least. So as 196 pound I want to see if that is within the healthy range.

Does anyone have any trusted BMI calculators? :)

BMI is calculated the same, always. Any given calculator should give you the same answer.

I thought that also. But it has gone from 25.9 (overweight) to 24.8 (normal weight) so idk where I stand tbh.

Well you are either overweight or a pizza away from being overweight so neither reading is good really........

.......without going into the pros and cons of BMI

It's just my core and chest that looks bad. Other than that I look fine. I am doing alot of weights and stuff now. I was just asking this simple question on this. so many ignorant people.

BMI is your (weight in kg) divided by your (height in metres squared). There are no good or bad calculators, they are either BMI or something else.

What my point was that that to say you are .2 under what would be considered overweight cannot mean you are healthy.

IMO getting calliper readings of your skin folds would be a better indication of your fat levels. Get them carried out by someone experienced and then have a retest after 5/6 weeks......if the numbers are dropping you are heading in the right direction.

Some light reading of a recent study which compared BMI readings to dexa scans and found that BMI is terrible for people moderately obese

There is a lot of money going into researching a better method than BMI for indicating peoples health status.....waist circumference being pushed a bit more at the moment.

It answers your question perfectly. You just don't get it.

Besides. You're the ignorant one. You don't know how to calculate BMI :D

If you don't like what you see in the mirror then why does BMI even matter?

Your BMI can't vary that much unless you lose or gain some weight.
It's far more likely that you are putting in the figures wrong.

The difference between 24.9 and 25.1 (ie normal and over weight) is only a few 100g. You aren't going to look suddenly fat when you pass over 25.

BMI is for studying populations not individuals, But seeing as you mentioned specific body parts, I suspect you need to lose weight, regardless of your true BMI being under or over 25.

By the way, you current BMI is 27.8
If you lose 1 stone, it will be 26.0

BMI is only a very basic measure of health. Use it in conjunction with what you see in the mirror, if you're "overweight" yet have a low BF% obviously have nothing to worry about. On the other hand, if you're an overweight BMI with a noticeably high BF% it's time to start the cardio and lessen the calorie in take.

    Yes, it does.

If overweight is classified as being 10lbs over your optimal weight (EXAMPLE!) then if you're 9 pounds over are you ok? The answer is no. These BMI and bodyweight figures are guidelines and give little if any indication as to your health. If we are both 6'1" and lets say 16 stone but I'm 4 or 5 inches wider than you at the shoulders, then our bmi would be the same even though we would be very different.

It should but I spotted an irish site that doesn't. For a 6ft 280lb/20stone person it shows 32,

    http://www.bmicalculator.ie/bmi-information/bmi-result/?stones&pounds=280&kgs=127&feet=6&inches=0&metres=2

    while this shows 38

It's rounding 6 foot to 2metres, which is where the error is coming from.

It rounds every height to even metres far as I can tell, so doesnt work at all.
