Ronaldo goal watch; how many will he end up with this season?

He's already on 49 goals from 45 appearances (14 in his last 11) which is just 14 goals off the all-time season record (Europe's top leagues). Everton's Dixie Dean: 63 in 1927-28.

There's definitely another 11 games left for Real Madrid and probably a 12th as long as Bayern are overcome in the CL semi.

Will he break the 70 goal barrier?

No. On those averages he'll end up around 61.

    You ain't Messi Baby!

64 I'd say, Messi will probably outscore him by 1 or 2 though.

Hope he does it. Sure Messi has to rely on dodgy penalties to pad his totals.

    Less than Messi

1 more than Messi (well, I have to be consistent).

How many penalties have both of them scored this season out of interest?

CR7 full/complete statistics and goals for Real Madrid, in 2011-2012:
    Right Foot: 22 | Left Foot: 9 | Head: 4 | Free Kick: 3 | Penalty Kick: 11 | TOTAL: 49

22.5% of his goals this season are PK's.

    Messi's is 8 out of 58 13.8%

didn't even check and was just making a joke, I see one of the Messi fanboys has rectified it. Doesn't change the fact Ronaldo is a better goalscorer than Messi.

    I reckon he'll end up with 63 - 65 goals.

And who cares that he isn't, but Like Messi, he's absolutely a one of a kind. Anyway, where is Messi mentioned in the thread title?

But since you posted about a player that has no relevance to the thread title - here's one for you. Messi is no Maradona.

So Messi scored 8 and Ronaldo scored 11. Messi missed few and Ronaldo missed none (Maybe wrong).

He's not even a poor man's Messi. He'll never be as good as Messi, no matter how much ManU fans desperately want him to be!!

    Long live Messi!!!!

What people have to remember when comparing Messi to Ronaldo is that Messi is 24 and Ronaldo is 27. Ronaldo is at or near his peak while Messi is still improving and won't be hittiing his peak for another few seasons.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,206 ✭✭✭gustavo

Just shows how unlucky Cron is to be born in the same generation as Messi going by the amount of retards in this thread. If he hadn't his goal scoring record would be staggering. I remember looking at Ronaldo's goal scoring record in 1997 for Barcelona and thinking that's unbelievable but Cristiano is doing it season in season out.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,230 ✭✭✭Leftist

two completely different players. A childish thing to compare them (who's better mcmananan or anderton etc yawn)

Ronaldo is an individualist. Has loyalty only to himself but can drag a team on his own.

Messi uses his teammates and relies on his teammates. his club has built it's formation around him. He has a team that dominates every game.

But he is a better player at this level.

Alternatively, if they switched clubs, messi would be far less effective.

True - he's not even the best player to be called Ronaldo.

But still a lot better than anyone playing in the "Premier" League

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,354 ✭✭✭gebbel

Ronaldo is better than Messi in the range of goals that he scores. He can score off both feet better, scores more headers and is better at free kicks. Messi is a better dribbler and playmaker, less selfish with the ball and has better awareness of those around him. IMO.

They are both fantastic players and I hope to see them head to head in the CL final.

You do know that 10 of the 37 Ronaldos goals have been from the penalty point?

Totally agree, this thread is about Ronaldo not Messi.

Interesting though, when people talk about Messi they always compare him to Maradona, when people talk about Ronaldo they always compare him to Messi...

I dislike the point that messi is 24 and ronaldo is 27, therefore messi is yet to hit his peak.

Messi wouldn't score as many without xavi, iniesta etc.

Ronaldo has proved he can do it, and in a league where the defences are better. Ronaldo scored 42 goals one season from the right wing?

We'll keep it simple an the loser has to close their account? The winner will be decided upon after the next WC. If Messi only completes <50% of club games then the bet is null and viod. Any other conditions?

    But a valid point nonetheless

but ronaldo wouldnt score as many if he had that team around him

But Messi has come up against the "best" english teams through the champions league and tore them all to shreds e.g ManUtd in the final in 2009, Utd tried to kick lumps out of him and he took the p*ss and scored a hat-trick

Close the account? why so serious!

I had a more friendly wager in mind myself, no need to lose posting privelages if your opinion turns out to be wrong....

    friendly 50? 100?

We will need to get a go between and agree on a criteria before we make the bet, will be the toughest thing to decide upon.

Imo the Barca team is set up for Messi at the moment, contrast it with the Argentinian team which is not yet set up around him, he excels for one and not for the other. Have a think over the next few days of how much the bet should be in your mind, who to get as a middle man and some criteria you would like to use, ill do the same. Continue it via pm

He never scored a hat-trick against United, he did score 4 against Arsenal though.

What exactly??? Do you mean that ronaldo is somewhat sexier than messi??? I really dont know what you mean by showing a pic of ronaldo with his top off has to do with anything?

o by the way: Ronaldo will never be a great player, until he wins the world cup.

Also, pretty hard to define if someone is better in 3 years than now - what defines this?

50 quid so. He plays less than <50% of club games in the 2013-2014 season then the bet is gone. The bet isn't decided by stats, we'll get the opinion of all the Barca regulars to decide who wins. If you want to add any more conditions then PM them to me over the next few days. On the 10th April I will post the bet in the FCB Superthread thread with all the conditions just so everyone can see them. Deal?

    Ronaldo plays on the left
    ppl tend to forget that
He also competing with top goalscores in the team like Higuain & Benzema
Messi plays in the centre & Barca rely on him more to get goals than Real do with Ronaldo

I know, thats my issue the more I think about it, it will be largely subjective really, could be tough to prove definitively either way, more thought shall be given :)

    1. I don't see the problem admitting that a player hasn't been as good as he was 1/2 seasons ago. I certainly have no problem saying that King was better in seasons past.
    2. Who else? How many people other than the Barca posters on here could give a valid opinion. Judging by the "controversial opinions" thread most people seem to think that Barca are boring to watch.

Ronaldo scored most of those goals when his team were already winning. Impressive but not as impressive who scores much more important goals.

Don't make the bet subjective. Make it simple, for example:

Will Messi score more goals over a full season in two years time than Ronaldo scores this season. Long term injuries make the bet null and void.

Please examine this further, I dare you to come back with the amount that Ronaldo/Messi have scored when their team are winning as opposed to goals that make a difference. I'm nearly sure it's Messi that will come up lacking.
