Im a first year Engineering student in UCD and im thinking of going on an Erasmus/Exchange for either one or two semesters in third year. Iv found a few universities that i would consider going to in America and Sweden etc. and i would like to know a few things before i really consider it.

First of all i would like to know what universities some of you have gone to and for how long.

Also i mainly want to know how much it (approximately) cost you to go away for the one or two semesters. I know this varies a lot from person to person and the country you go to.

Im also aware that if i go on an Erasmus (within Europe), i could get a small grant of 1000 euro which would be a great help but i feel that i would slightly prefer to explore somewhere outside Europe.

I really appreciate any replies. Thank you. :)

Hello! Im from America and im visiting UCD on exchange in the fall. I know that UCD does U21 exchange with two schools in America. University of
Connecticut and Virginia i think. Im coming from UConn, so if you have any questions about that let me know. I know that exchanges are cheapest, at least from this end!

I did 8 months in Grenoble in France.

Absolutley the best thing I've ever done, I'll really never forget it. Try and find someone who's had a bad erasmus...I don't think they exist!

Costs a fair bit, Erasmus grant is about €1,600 for the year depending on country. If you get a higher education grant you're also entitled to it away. And coz I was in lovely socialist France we got €100 or so off of our rent every month from the French government.

Overall it costs a lot, but a lot of that depends on how much you travel while over there, both near the place and trips back home.
