    Last year's thread
    race website

This is a popular race, and I know a lot of boardsies are thinking of heading down, so might as well give it it's own thread outside the usual BHAA discussion.

Starts at 11.00, and registration - in the clubhouse - closes at 10.30

From what I hear it's a fast course, very flat (anyone have a Garmin profile), and they really pile on the food afterwards?

NB - as with all BHAA races, wearing headphones is not permitted

Most definitely a PB course in a stunning location. It's very well organised even from a BHAA perspective & I'm gutted, I have to work that day. Rumours of a runner who doubled his body weight at the afters last year & broke the car suspension on the drive home, are still circulating. :)

I've heard a lot about this race and looking forward to it.;) Hopefully its as flat as people say it is??

Really enjoyed it last yr... I've missed a heap of races recently after starting the year off well so looking forward to it big time..
It's pretty fast alright although the finishing straight seperates the men from the boys going up the hill...

Heres a garmin profile from last year.

    http://connect.garmin.com/activity/81222052

Sorry splits are in miles not K's...

wee downhill at the start and back up it at the finish...flat
    in between.

Definately a PB course. A well organised, as usual, bhaa race.

Dressing room and showers and you can eat your body
    weight in food after!!

Looking forward to this. Will they post out number beforehand or is it collect on the morning? Also, is parking a hassle?

Collect on the morning. You can pre-register on the BHAA website. I haven't been out to the K-club before, but I'd imagine they have enough parking...

Car parking is not an issue, enough spaces here to cope with a Dublin City Marathon posse & valet parking may even be available for the lazy!

Looking forward to it. A couple of workmates are running the Great Ireland the weekend before and setting me a time to beat. A flatter quieter course for me!

On line entry is available for day members at bhaa.ie or runireland.com & costs €15, members pay just a tenner on the day.

Is it possible to join as a memeber on the day of the race and pay the €10 entry fee?

You can join the BHAA online, less hassle for everyone than joining on the day.

Cool, but paying the entry fee on the day is no problem I assume? Is that the case for both memeber and non-members (can you pay the €15 on the day?)

I think so, people have joined on the day at the other races I've been to this year. But I'll let AJ confirm...

My first race since Raheny 5 miler. Loved the course last year but just hope my calf holds up. Going for a easy 5 mile on it today.

No problems with joining & running on the same day for €25 (€15 for year & €10 for race-it makes sense if you're doing 3 races). The only awkward bit is you are only given a standard in your next race (we need one race to assess this) so you can only be counted as part of a team for your second race.

Excuse my stupidity AJCOT...Just to clear up in my mind:
Is it an option to just run the race on the day and not become a BHAA member? And is this cost €15 for the race only?

The alternative would be to join the BHAA (€15) and pay the member's rate of €10 for the race? This would be the sensible option if you intended doing more BHAA races throughout the year.

    Thanks in advance!

Yes, non-members can run this race for 15 euro.
Or join BHAA for 15 euro, and run this race for an additional 10 euro.

    Hi ,

You can pay on the day , but it puts us under pressure to input your details on the day. IF you do it on line , its a 30 sec job of handing your number out .
You only need to sign up as a member in order to be in the system for the K club

    http://bhaa.ie/members/app/membership/form

    Thanks

Right so there seems to be a good group from here heading down and it's the perfect course for fast times, so it's necks on the line time! I'll go first:

    pconn062: 39:59

Hoping to be a bit ahead of this actually all going well, but this is the minimum target.

Didn't you run an 17.59 5k on an only slightly short course? Let me fix that for you...

    pconn062: 38:59
    RayCun: 39:29

...assuming my legs start working again before the weekend

Ha, I preferred it the way it was! I'm basing my time on the 18:40 and 18:42 I ran on the proper length courses after that. Still gives me quicker than 39:59 but training hasn't been optimal. (I also think the flat course at the K club is worth more than thirty seconds of your GIR time. ;))

It? Do you mean my calf, my hamstring, my glute...? :pac:

Yeah, plenty of slow running this week, before I rock up to show meno what he could have done, if hadn't wasted all that time on ultras :pac:

So I'll be there too, haven't done a 10k since GIR '10 where I was infuriated with my time of 60:09. Grrr. So I better be sub 60 or I'll have (another) temper tantrum at the finish line. Hoping to be closer to 58...All you lot will be tucking in to your chicken wings by the time I come in. Except for Raycun, he better wait for me!

Looking forward to this one. Based on my recent race times and the apparent flatness of the course I think I should make a decent stab at sub 42.

Oh i wish i could race this now but alas injury.

If i'm correct Ray has a 50 secs advantage on PBs, Great Ireland versus Dunshaughlin so say Ray's a minute faster on distance but thats without taking into consideration Meno's marathon time and Ray racing last week.

Who to bet on? Meno ain't no Big Buck's Brian!

Looks like a windy day for Sat.

    http://www.yr.no/place/Ireland/Leinster/Naas/
This says 10deg, sunny with a gentle breeze (4-5m/s) for Sat at 11am...

Usually reliable info, but may still be a little too far out from the day.

    From Met.ie
THIS WEEKEND: Bright and breezy with good sunny spells (best of these early on in the morning). However scattered showers will also develop, heaviest and most frequent in the west and north, where there is the risk of thunder. Highest temperatures 10 to 13 degrees Celsius, with best values across the southeast, where it will tend to be driest and brightest. Winds will be mostly fresh northwesterly.

Hope you are right Belcarra and not me :)

Best of luck to everyone doing this on Saturday - this was my first ever 10k last year and I would love to be doing it again as it's a cracking race. I had planned to take a big chunk off my time this year but sadly I'm injured, so eat plenty of cocktail sausages and chicken wings for me!

It's a friendly crowd and a fast course, but the average standard is higher than in a lot of road races. There aren't any walkers, and very few people will take more than an hour. And headphones are banned.
