Biggest Gym In Ireland

    Hey,

Just wondering if anyone knows what the biggest gym in Ireland is, I mean the weight lifting and cardio section, not including the other amenities such as pool etc..

Lately so fed up with the tiny size of Kingfisher gym in NUIG, surely they should have planned something on a bigger scale ala America, enough students to partake.

Anyway if anyone could shed some light on what the biggest gym is that'd be great, just want to get an idea of the other facilities in the country.

Galway city gym isn't the biggest spot but it is easily my favorite gym in Galway, a sound bunch go there. Have only good things to say about the place from my experience going there.

I was told about 1 in Derry thats about the size of a mid sized retail park unit. They keep the price so low ( works out aprox 50p per day) that people arent inclined to cancel as its so cheap so you have a huge client base but very few actually using and wearing out equipment

I'd say the attendance og a gym is a function of the price.

Say 1000 people join at €1000. They're all going to go a lot, limiting maximum memebership to 1000 for the sake of the argument.

However, if 5000 people join at only €200 each, you still get the same money in, and a you probably still have less than 1000 people actualy going on a regular basis because if they weren't serious enough to pay €1000, they're just not going to go now that it's cheaper.

Westwood Clontarf road is the biggest in the republic. I think there's a bigger one in Belfast

But it thats true, they'd probably go once a week on average rather than 5 times.

So the footfall is the same at the gym and its just as busy.

I don't see how a big gym is a good thing. Could just as easily be too busy.
A quite gym is good, but big or small can be quiet.

I get you on the size of the gym, problem is that in the kingfisher in nuig the range of equipment is not good at all in the freeweights section, and there is only 4 benches, pretty ridiculous imo

In fairness, The Mardyke in Cork is the UCC gym and it only has 6 benches for free weights, 3 for bench pressing (2 which can incline) and 1 smith machine, there are nearly 20,000 students in UCC as well as the gym being open to members of the public...

A lot of the people going there are sound but some of the students are retarded, such as 5 people doing 5 sets of 10-15 reps on a bench, thereby rendering it inaccessible for more than half an hour while they chat away instead of lifting :P
