casual labour and accidents

Just a heads up to anyone who might use casual migrant workers on their property. There appears to have been an increase in migrants having "accidents" and the employer then being sued for compensation. THe workers are usually undocumented and see this as a way of getting a potential windfall beforeheading home.
This is NOT an anti-immigrant thread; I have heard of several cases over the last few months. Most are great and honest workers but there are a few bad apples who now see this as a way to get easy money.

Ohh you should be covered once you have the necessary risk assessments, training and insurance in place.

    Indeed it is...
There is no reason to believe that any nation is more prone to dodgy claims than our own... Unless you have a link to some proof other than your own ramblings??

Have the basic courtesy to accept the veracity of what I've posted. It's based on my own recent experience of such a claim which was proven to be totally fabricated and the claim exposed for what it actually was.
There's a recession out there, and some people are chancing their arm.

There would be no reason why an Irish person would not do this aswell?!

We had the insurance man in this morning to do a quote up for us and he was really stressing employer's liability to my OH. He only uses casual labour every so often and it's the same person but you never know with some people.

Prefixing the statement "I think Johnny Foreigner is out to get us all" by saying "it's not intended as a racist comment" doesn't mean it's not racist..

We've all heard stories about insurance claims, bogus and otherwise.. People should protect their interests by covering themselves with employers and public liability insurance... Then you won't have to warn us all about Johnny Foreigner being out to get us all
