Just got a letter addressed to 'The HomeOwner' it's a half price deal for all sky packages for 12 months and is valid until the 13th of April.

I didn't avail of it yet but a few of my friends have, they just rang up and said they got the letter.

Also the letter is dated to expire on the 29th of March but it has been extended until the 13th of April.

do you have to take all the packages to get this offer and is this only for new customers?

I want to know the same please...have been thinking of canceling my sky so might decide to stay if I get this offer.

I'm assuming this deal is not available for current customers?

These kind of ones normally aren't.

No code on it or anything just a number to ring, like I said not addressed to me or anything. I doubt it's for current customers but if your out of contract and threaten to leave and re-join you'll probably get it.

Recently cancelled movies and HD - when I rang to cancel, the guy on the phone immediately offered the movies for half price (can't remember for how long) and last week someone rang to reoffer HD for half price for 6 months.
Ring them up and ask if any deals as you're thinking of leaving - if you're out of contract on any part of your deal, they should definitely give you something.

Signed up with them less than a month ago, and never got this offer. I wonder would they do anything for us?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,848 ✭✭✭soundsham

I left them and rejoined through someone else under the mrs name to get a free extra box and a slightly reduced price for the same package

Since then I've recieved 2 or 3 letters offering me 1/2 price for
12 months to return..... Hope it's available in another 6 months or so
    I was a direct debit customer for 10yrs +

Its usually only available to households that have received the letter,Sky have the mailing list on file, they know who has been sent the offer.
These half price deals are regularly sent out to ex customers.

True, they target certain customers,if you ring & pretend you got a letter they'll suss you out pretty quickly. My father gets them regularly as the account was originally in my name but he took over payments when I moved out but Sky didn't change the the subscription into his name,I had SkyWorld for years but he got me to remove Sports & Movies before I moved. They keep sending offers to take up the premium channels again but he's not interested.

    Hi Farls,

Can you have a look at the other side of that letter / flyer and see what the installation and box costs are?

Yea im wondering if they will sting you on this side of things.....seems like there is always a catch. Just moving into a new gaf this weekend so it would be great to get this for the year half price!!

After I left sky couple of years ago I go the letter.

The deal then expected that you still have all your sky equipment and it is simply a viewing card required.

Suppose they save on supplying equipment and so reduce the package.

Generally they won't sting you for install, although usually they assume that you still have the equipment as they target previous customers or those on small packages. The most you might have to pay is around €30,although you might get free install (tell them you sold the equipment;) )

Haha, ya know what, i think the old box might still be in the house though :) happy days. Going to try them tomorrow! Cheers

My 12 months half price came due this week and I called around and got another half price deal for 6 months this time - girl told me the date to call again in 5 months time to ensure I can try and get another half price deal to run concurrently at end of latest deal.

If OP got letter addressed to "Homeowner" then I would imagine its and open letter so anyone can chance it. The thing with Sky is never take the first answer, unless its the right one, always as to talk to someone "better" - Win Backs are the dept with the deals to get you back in on half price.

I told them yesterday was going back to UPC as I couldn't afford extra €40 a month and they quickly came up with the deal.

Since I got the new iPad I am using SkyGo a lot and find it great for sports so wouldn't want losing that:D

I rang, 30 euro setup cost boxes are free for single and/or multiroom

I am about to leave them...never use movies anymore due to Netflix (us version) and ATV...might be worth considering staying if they throw a deal at me...thanks for heads up

Called the number and got the offer finally, thanks OP. It looks like the offer is not for APT ( as we lived).
It took me 20 mints over the phone (my phone Bill – but worth it:D)for them to check my detail, obviously they did not fund my address as they never send a such letter:confused: but they decide to give it to me anyway.

That's a good deal. We're just moving into our new house and have no tv provider yet. My partner wants broadband and a phone as well though. With UPC that works out at €66 per month which is too much for us. Do Sky do broadband or is that only in the UK? I don't want a phone but my partner phones Sweden regularly and wants one for that. At a push we could use the next-door neighbour's phone (mother-in-law! :o) but that still leaves the broadband issue. With Three not allowing tethering on your mobile now, that snookers that!

Sky doesn't offer broadband in Ireland.

Why don't you get Broadband and Phone with UPC and take the Sky offer.

Or an alternative for UPC phone is Voip provider (Blueface or vomino) but you will need a VOIP router or adapter to connect to your UPC modem or a smart phone that you can install the VOIP software to make the calls. Lots of info on VOIP forum

Personally I would go with the Sky pack for TV and Phone and BB through UPC the 40.50 pack ( You get 400 mins a month free to Sweden landline with this pack )

I was on a half price deal. After it ended in Jan, went back to full price. Rang up to cancel and told them I couldn't afford it at full price and the girl just said she couldn't reduce it and was happy to just let me cancel. Would I have a better chance now if I rang up again?

i cancelled the sports pack not too long ago & told them the same as you - i couldn't afford it - when asked by the girl, but she didn't offer me any deal just asked me if i'd be interested in taking 1 of the sports channels by themselves as it'd be cheaper for me.
So the deals must just depend on who you get

did any existing customers try for this

even at half price skysports isn't woth it if you ask me. there's loads of football on midweek terrestrial tv, the premier league is nothing special if you ask me.

we have a great summer of sport ahead, the Olympics, Euro 2012 in Polkraine all on terrestrial tv.

the only thing i'd like on skypsorts is the golf but that is ruined by all the adds.

just my thoughts, i'm sure there are plenty who enjoy skysports too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,346 ✭✭✭borderlinemeath

Thanks OP! Got this for my sister who has just moved house and was previously with UPC, no need to be a previous sky customer, just state that you want the half price offer for the year.

€30 set up and €16.50 per month with the entertainment extra package. She has no interest in sports or sky movies but they can be added half price as well if needs be. The only catch would be that if you decided you wanted to cancel one of the packages whilst in the contract the entire thing goes to full price.

I can say the exact same thing with regards Setanta Ireland and the live F1 races.

Several long useless ad breaks promoting Alianz, during the live racing.:mad:

there's not a load of football on terrestrial tv, 1 champions league game each game night on RTE/UTV/TV3 and a europa league game on 3e. with highlights of the rest. in the group stages of the CL, of the 16 matches in a week you can watch 15 live on sky except the 1 licensed to ITV.

they also show live PL games + have extended highlights of each game with match choice compared to limited highlights on BBC/RTE

it's far better for football coverage but i still got rid of it as you can only watch the PL games they show - i watch all my teams matches now online - and it a bit expensive,

but i think it's worth it a half price, although now's not the best time to be getting it for football

as well all the packages cost €76 i think so at HP €38 and with the HD pack it costs €91, HP €45.50
that's good value, i pay €23 now for the entertainment pack

i'm paying 48 euro p.m. for the HD service with no movies/sports which is a lot really. i have a brother in england and he gets HD for £10 p.m. which is about 12.11 euro so we are been charged that bit extra for HD over here.

but i agree with you now is not the time to sign up for the sports package if it's mainly football you want to see. F1 fans may disagree.

all the sky's packs cheaper in the UK not just the HD, we're charged extra for everything if you want to view it like that, but i suppose its to do with minimum wages, price are generally lower in the UK etc.

have you tried to get the half price deal?

if your able to get it, you could get everything & HD for €3 less than your paying atm :pac:

If you know someone up north with a Freesat rig you can get them to avail of it 'for you' meaning that you pay them a lump for the full year and get a HD box to install yourself with a card.

The card will revert to a Freesat HD card at the end of the year with the Freesat HD channels and access to HD recordings...unlike the Irish card which will not supply HD channels at the end of the contract and will disable access to recordings.

Alternatively get the £175 one off package. http://www.sky.com/shop/freesat/home/ with NI card. They must activate the card ( by phone) on receipt.

I cancelled Sky years ago and have never got a letter since!
Still have the old boxes but I can safely say they wouldn't last a month if used again.

think there is a general consensus that if you ring up, threaten to leave that they will beg you to stay and offer you all sorts of discounts in the process. This is not the case in my experience.

I currently have the sports package which is costing €59 per month but I must say, the way they handle it is terrible IMO.

If I want to cancel the sports option, I have to give them a months notice - surely there is not too much hassle in working it out pro rata and if I owe them they can deduct or add onto next bill. I would normally cancel sports pack in the summer given the lack of football on - but you nearly have to do it now for it to take effect.

Same here, they told me there are no deals on offer at the moment.

Can anyone give a link or any info that could be used to support the claim of this offer existing and where it says its been extended?

I just saw the pdf added by previous poster, thanks for that, any idea where the info on the extension to april 13th is coming from?

I got the same letter in my door.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,785 ✭✭✭Farls

The guy I was talking to told me it was extended to 13th of April because the letters were only sent out the 27th of March with an end date of 29th March on them

Just ring and complain lots and you'll get the deal

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,104 ✭✭✭iPhone.

Hi Farls, thanks for the information, I tried them again but no go unfortunately.
They told me that their system doesn't show any offer at all for my area. I asked about the leaflets and she told me that they target different customers at different times with different offers and their system tracks the offers for each given area.

Anyway, no joy, would have been really great to save a few bob, oh well.... we'll catch the next one that comes along hopefully :)

i called today, said i wanted to join on the half price offer that was sent in the post

they just signed me straight up with no hassle

all channels with hd and multiroom €58 per month

also called them about an hour later for my brother and got him signed up on the same offer

forgot to add i think you need to call the phone number that was on the leaflet in the 1st page of this post

Just phoned them to try and get the offer but no deal. Was told it was over. Told them they had extended it to the 13th April which they denied . They said it was only for people who had received the letter and were previous customers. I told him that I knew of others who had availed of this without receiving it and he said they shouldn't have! Asked to speak to a supervisor who told me the same thing. Nobody is entitled to the offer unless you personally got the letter and were a previous customer. Very annoyed

Thanks op for this. 16.50 per month for 12 months and 30e set up. Had been putting this off for a while but at that price it's a steal. For anyone who didn't get it ring again. I used the number in the PDF and the CS didn't question when I asked for the half price offer.

How long does it take to get through? Have rang a few times and was left hanging for 30 minutes! They will be making cash on their telephone lines with a 0818 telephone no.! Anyone know when is a good time to call SKY?
