Nice one on starting the thread man, cheers.

Yeah, seen your write-up in the other thread. Hope he has a speedy recovery. But holy sh!t, there's not much left of that Kwacker!

Dying to see the first round of the BSB too. Next Monday ain't it?

actually that pic seems to be of the bike after it was dismantled by the team more pictures around today of the bike intact but badly damaged.

no real updates on Lascorz yet but there should be another announcement this evening hopefully with some good news.

Just saw this now, shocking news. Especially when you remember Lascorz' crash in Supersports at Silverstone a couple of years ago. Hopefully the release this evening will have positive news

Anyone see this??? What fantastic racing!!! Pity abbout Sykes in the first race but
glad to see Guintoli on the top step for a change!
As for Race 2 - what a humdinger!! Amazing stuff from Laverty, Haslam and Melandri! How many times did they change places?? Amazing racing there today. This is what MotoGP should be like!!!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,041 ✭✭✭pdbhp

Yep watched it all, savage racing especially in the second race was glad for Laverty when he fended off Melandri even though he was on a superiour tyre.

The S/S race was also great but kinda ruined by the weather.
MotoGP could defo take a leaf out of Superbikes book.

He fought them off well didn't he? Rea did well too in the second race considering the accident he had in the first one! Some humdinger battles right through the field.

Was enjoying the superstock 1000 race till Ducati deliberately pressed the self destruct button on Freddy Sandi's bike while they had second and third place bikes, with the BM's and possibly Baz catching them fast....

    race1 cancelled for safety reasons:(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,871 ✭✭✭Infoanon

What was going on today ?? Race 1 cancelled - talk of rider boycotts - rear pirelli issues - riders refusing to start race 2 - poleman Guinters not making the start of race 2.......and those grandstands looked empty

And who decided to put WSupers on the same day as Moto GP ??

Effenbert Liberty Ducati have issued a statement after todays WSBK Debacle

“It is unacceptable that the fundamental decisions of the day are been taken with such a superficiality not even worthy of a single brand championship of scooters. At the end it is clear that the WSBK is in the hands of a little number of team and riders."

Goes on to call the events a 'farce' and that WSBK 'disrespect' the public and ends by saying that the team will reflect on its racing future.

Such an outburst in other champioships would lead to heavy fines or expulsions so it shall be interesting to see what WSBK do about will of its biggest teams (who are rumoured to be entering a CRT in Moto GP next season...)

That was some mess alright!! Here's Pirelli's take on it....

Pirelli has hit back at criticism from the World Superbike Championship riders that its tyres were not good enough to compete in the dry-wet conditions at Monza, retorting that they ignored the alternative options that were 'consistently recommended' to them.

The Italian tyre firm has come under fire after its wet rear tyres were shown breaking up significantly along the home straights during qualifying, a factor that prompted some riders to signal their reluctance to start the first race in similarly wet-dry conditions.

Hampered by ever-changing weather conditions, plus some areas of the partly shaded circuit drying faster than others, Race Direction took the decision to cancel the first race altogether on safety grounds once the heavens opened fully.

However, Pirelli says that while the unique circumstances, coupled to Monza's unusual characteristics, meant it was inevitable that the wet tyres would break up at higher speeds in the dry, it says its intermediate tyres would have been sufficient on the more slippery parts of the circuit.

Claiming that riders ignored this advice despite it 'consistently recommending' this option to the teams, Pirelli racing director Giorgio Barbier points to the successful completion of the Supersport and Superstock races in arguably tougher conditions as proof that its tyres were capable.

“The weekend at Monza was most certainly conditioned from Saturday by weather conditions which were extremely unstable, with nice weather, suddenly alternating with rain and at times even with hail.

"As for Superbike, first and foremost I would like to make an important note on Saturday's Superpole: Pirelli consistently recommended that the teams and riders use the intermediate tyres which were available to them.

“This advice, however, was completely ignored since all of the riders used rain tyres. Clearly the reason for this was the fact that the track was completely dry in places, while in others it was wet due to the trees along the track which kept the asphalt from drying.

“The rain tyres run well at 50per cent-60 per cent, but on the two consecutive straight stretches, which were completely dry, they obviously reached temperatures well above 200 degrees. This caused a meltdown of the compound in the centre. I would also like to reassure everyone on this point that Pirelli tyres have a particular structure with a steel belt, and therefore it is absolutely impossible for them to explode.

“That said, on Sunday the riders in the Superstock classes raced as scheduled, in conditions which were even worse than those during the Superbike races, using the rain tyres on the front and the intermediate or race tyres on the rear. In Supersport, as further proof that the Pirelli rain tyres can most definitely sustain an entire race without any problems, the riders raced and finished on rain tyres.

“So it was a shame that, although the Superbike riders had two intermediate solutions available to them for the rear, they expected only to use the racing slicks. Once the race began, in any case, it was clear that even in those conditions a good race could be run."

Great race 1 from Donnington, Melandri with a deserved win, good result for Haslam but I'd say he's píssed off after going off at the esses.
Another fine race by Tom Sykes the Kawasaki is really turning out to be a fine bike.

Some GREAT racing!! Sykes did well holding off the two BMW's for 10 laps, but once they got by him, that was it! But he never let them get out of his sights and he just kept Biaggi at bay, fighting him off whenever Biaggi got by him. He's doing well and only a single point behind Biaggi in the championship too!!

Delighted for Melandri though, he's a nice lad.

Yep Sykes is really doing well this season and it's great to see the Kawasaki doing so good after many years without any results.

Melandri showing once again why he is so highly rated he really rode a fantastic race and totally deserved to win.

Johnny Rae did very well also and his lap times werevery impressive.

Holy sh!t, did ya see race 2??? That was some incident in the last corner of the last lap!!! Nice (if bold) move by Rae! I reckon there'll be a few fingers wagged! Some more excellent racing. Good round!

Haven't watced it yet I recorded it earlier to watch with a beer.
The standard of racing in WSB the last few years has been amazing MotoGP needs to take a lesson from them.

Problem is they are owned by the same group, Bridgepoint.
The heads of SBK and Dorna just had a big meeting with regard to the CRT class and its similarity to SBK.
Could be changes coming to SBK soon with slower tyres to make the gap between SBK and MotoGP bigger.

I've watched the last lap over and over again and still can't figure out how he did it. In a really strong position to finally go on and get the BSS Championship he deserves now, a really top prospect.

Was working for the Bavaria thing and got a nice up-close look at Jack Kennedys bike and had a good chat with his mechanic. They're confident for the rest of the season so fingers crossed it all goes well for them.

Marathon session of Bike racing today. BSB Brands Hatch and WSBK Brno
I think it only fair to say a big well done to Jack Kennedy in the BSB Supersport race, he rode and excellent race both before and after the Red flag.
I think he has a bright future.

In both races too, very unlucky to have been beaten in the early race on the last bend. Both races combined were decided by less than a tenth of a second, the best entertainment on television today by a mile.

He's doing Clonsilla, Dublin and Ireland proud.

Thats racing experience for you, Glen Richards is no dummy.
This will all stand to JK though in the long run. No better race series IMO.
The introduction of EVO rules has made the field a very level place where rider skill is the main factor.

Anyone watch the WSBK racing in Silverstone today?

Seriously, it's hard to find Moto GP entertaining after racing like that. It was UNREAL!

Laverty robbed by some suspect decisions by the race stewards!

Saw the first race and will be watching race 2 later this evening. Race one was crazy with the rain, amazing to see world class riders teetering around the track at such slow speeds at the end of the first race!

Suspect decisions is putting it politely - Tom Sykes let loose in an after race interview about calling the race 2 laps before the red flag was shown.
Though Sykes tried to get both Race 1 & Race 2 stopped....

The Stewards decisions are questonable with no consistency - ref Monza - though the Manufacturers don't help : Aprilla protesting Melandri & BMW for his bike being worked on after the 3 minute to start board - something Aprilla did themselves ! (and Honda decided not to protest)

Crazy racing yesterday in WSBK.....Haslam was sooo lucky to be left walking after Biaggi t-boned him..wtf was he thinkin...
Laverty having to let Biaggi pass him for a podium...:(
    Then the rea/laverty incident.....

BSB...Richards trying to replicate Biaggi's move on Jack Kennedy...hope Jack repays him today, seemed a bit pissed off.....

Looking at the rain outside...wonder what its like in Cadwell....:o

The Biaggi "move" was unreal. What the hell was he thinking? Felt so bad for Haslam, and of course Laverty and Rea. Rea getting a chance in MotoGP now on Stoners Repsol, great opportunity for him.

Didn't see a good replay of the JK and Richards incident, all I saw was Jack on the grass. P2 for todays race, hopefully he cleans up. Weather is meant to be quite bad over there, according to Twitter. He's racing at 15.40 I think.

i missed the first race, why did laverty have to leave biaggi pass him? i thought that team orders stuff didnt happen in wsb:confused:
that biaggi crash was insane, a man with his experience should not be causing accidents like that, and he nearly ran off the track a few laps before, i fecking hate him!

It was team orders in Race One. Eurosport were sure that Eugene was receiving a message from his crew on each lap from early on, despite the fact he was several places ahead. You can somewhat understand their position, but it still doesn't make it right.

Between the farce at Silverstone, the controversy of the team orders, and the somewhat unlucky crash at the end of Race 2 this weekend, he really isn't getting the rub of the green. It seems to be really affecting him, looking at some of his tweets and interview quotes. Good to see he's still a class act though. Was straight on to Twitter to apologise to Rea and Northern Ireland.

Jack Kennedy had a nightmare second race, finishing 7th (incredibly) after having to ride on an intermediate tyre when the team had no dry tyres left apparently. Moved down to 2nd in the Championship by 9.5 points, having been the same amount up before Cadwell Park. Hopefully Donington in two weeks will be more rewarding for him.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,700 ✭✭✭Sids Not

Gutted for Jack..although he did "ride the tyres off it" to finish where he did.....:)
Fairly boring superbike races imo......i dont often say that about BSB..mostly due to that track and the damp conditions.....really missed Shakey ,and Nori.....
