Not a bad day here, sunny until around noon and with the bitter north easterly gone it felt a lot warmer than of late even though it only reached 11.2C. Just started drizzling 5 minutes ago to start what looks like at least 12 hours of persistent rain

A question for the weather experts.

This is the ME radar for 5pm today. It clearly shows not just rain, but yellow rain falling on this exact location.

Yet there was absolutely nothing  !

    How does that happen?

To start with the Met Radar is nowhere near live. To continue with, it's a basic radar with even more basic interpretation software deployed at receiving terminals.

As example, Met Eireann cannot show snow, yet, RainToday.UK *** using Met Eireann's data CAN.

Moreover the effective scan rate for this type of radar is just 150miles and it really needs overlap for accuracy as they just run a PC prediction on it and release it ~ IMO, totally useless, TBH. For the weather enthusiast, I hasten to add.

Radar has moved on and the concept of overlapping radar is not in the psych of the Met, Eireann or UK nor the concept of phased array dual polarisation.

Reached Cork city at 00.23 - pounding on the windows made it impossible to hear anything else for about 3 or 4 minutes. Has since eased to light to moderate rain.
