Meh, setting/set-up is one of the least important things to me in a TV show.

Anyone seen this? Worth the coupla minutes to get it?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,462 ✭✭✭✭WoollyRedHat

That promo is flat out terrible.... only redeeming features is James Van Der Beck in it and Bryan Cranyston... the title character might actually be ridicolously annoying as well, which is a problem.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,852 ✭✭✭✭Skerries

why are comedy's coming out with edgy titles now?
first we had "**** my dad says" and now this

I don't get placing swear words in titles, especially on American TV. It's just going to be censored most of the time, defeats the purpose. It was the same with Shit My Dad Says.

Just watched the pilot and it was.. interesting. Kinda funny in parts and James Van Der Beek is quite good in it, but we'll see if the seemingly near-constant references to Dawson's Creek get boring.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,465 ✭✭✭Kiwi_knock

I thought the pilot was only ok. The show seems very much in the Two and a Half Men and 2 Broke Girls class of humour, i.e quite lowbrow. Not sure if there is going to be any main arc in this show apart from watching the main character grow, which is not too interesting because she is not a very likeable character so far. Ritter's character is a disappointment as well, really thought she would have done better with the role. The only saving graces are James Van der Beek and the actor who plays Mark because their scenes in the episodes provided the only bits of comedy.

I am going to stick with the show and hope it improves, but it needs to introduce some sort of main plot soon to actually prove that the show is going somewhere.

Well it makes sense with Sh*t My Dad Says because that's the name of the book it's based on.

Was that not originally a twitter account first?

Yeah, but the book is what brought the whole thing to the studios attention (or at least that's what I remember reading on the Twitter a/c :D).

I liked the pilot mainly because of Dawson :p

The second episode is now also out....

    Loved the pilot...

I liked the second episode more than the first. Felt it gave me a better idea on the tone of the series.

Didnt love it but I have to sat... JVDB was amazing in it!! Genuine LOL moments when the class chanted for him to do the monologue! Brilliant. Might just keep watching to see more moments like it.

Gotta agree James Van Der Beek plays himself so well :p

Is it a bad sign when the best thing about it is James Van Der Beek effectively playing himself up?

Second episode is definitely better than the pilot but that is mainly due to Van der Beek. He is only thing keeping it different from all the other odd couple shows. Really not sure about the long term prospects of this show.

Watched the first 2 episodes last night, and really liked it.

Both Ritter and 'The Beek' were excellent!

I loved the two episodes thus far, laughed myself silly.

At least "shít my dad says" is catchy. Is there some sort of contest to produce really long unwieldy show titles? First "I Hate My Teenage Daughter" and now this.

To be honest, I thought the censoring in the title was intentional..

.. as it makes the show title rhyme - as in 'Don't Trust The B In Apartment 23".

I really like it, good fluff and lots of LOL moments

I'm liking it so far. Not sure it's fair to compare it to 2BGs as it's edgier and the jokes here aren't as staged. I'm hoping it stays on form!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 11,835 ✭✭✭✭cloud493

That was so funny :D 'how did you afford an assistant? Oh I got a foster child'
Only thing funnier than this on tv is new girl right now.

At the moment its not essential "must see as soon as it airs" type of show like Community, Parks & Rec, New Girl, Happy Endings, but its definitely on the right track to being up there with the best of them...
I hope it gets renewed for a second season, because if a show like this only got 7 episodes it'd be an absolute shame...

I know right :( I didn't find it funny at all, just a bit weird.

Great episode altogether though, better than last weeks.

This show is actually sorta growing on me, though the end was in poor taste "I'll get up, I'm just relaxing".

Oh no, was that it? I think I heard it's gotten a full season pickup. Great show. I like it far more than I expected!

watched the first 4 episodes last night (recorded from E4)

after the first two i enjoyed them, but i found the show strange, it was laugh out loud yet i wasn't sure which way they were going,

after the 3rd and 4th i really enjoyed it, they were so funny,

JVDB is not even getting on my nerves with the constant Dawson references, in fact i find him hilarious.

its a strange show that just works as a comedy imo.

I really enjoyed this show shame it was only 7 episodes

I plowed through a few episodes of this last night. Not bad, the bits with JVDB are hilarious, they should just make the show about him.
Eligh is also great, I loved Michail Blaiklock in Secret Girlfriend. Hopefully he gets more screentime as the show goes on.

On a semi related note, I was watching an episode of It's always Sunny in Philly last night and Michail Blaiklock was in it as 'homeless boy'.

Not usually into these types of shows but i really liked this and watched the whole 1st season in about 2 days.

It was only 7 x 20 minute episodes.. so not quite the feat it sounds! :D

I watched the final 2 episodes at the weekend.. and overall felt it ended a lot weaker than it began.

I preferred it when the humour was dark (e.g
    wheelchair-bound wife scene
) but not quite the smut lined dialogue and tired situations of '2 Broke Girls' (e.g
    masturbation in the bath scene
    ).

That Eli character is by far the worst thing about the show. I was really hoping they'd ditch him all together prior to season 2.

It was a hotlink to an image on IMDB... so it doesn't load for anyone bar whoever posted (and has it in their cache).
