New Supervalu for Celbridge [Now open]

I see that a new Supervalu has been announced to open in Celbridge in 2012. Anyone have an idea where it is likely to be situated? Hopefully it will be away from the Tesco/Lidl axis which can be a bit of a mare for traffic at times.

I'd say we could quite safely guarantee that the supermarket will be located somewhere along the Tesco/Lidl/Aldi route :D Planning in Celbridge is atrocious!

I can't for the life of me imagine where they are planning to put it- must take a walk later and see if I can spot any planning notices.

Edit: a quick google indicates it's going in beside Boylan's Garage apparently.

That strikes me as a shrewd move on behalf of SuperValu, if Lidl hadn't been so obsessed with plonking themselves as close as possible to Aldi and had got that site they'd probably be doing a lot better than they are.

Guaranteed to catch all people who use the Dublin Road on their way home who need to grab a few bits for the dinner or whatever reason, that business alone should keep them ticking over.

11 out of Celbridge's 45 estates are on the east side of the Liffey with only the Tesco express and Boylan's garage for groceries shopping.

I see work has commenced on this. I have a few questions I was wondering if anyone knows the answer.

    1) When will it be finished?
    2) What other shops/restaurants are going to be located there?
    3) Are there any drawings available online to see what its going to look like?

Saw this today also. Was wondering where the entrance will be? Will they be allowed have it out onto the Dublin Road?

There will be joined entrance for the petrol station and shopping centre onto the Dublin Road. I looked at the plans the Kildare County Council Website

The previous poster is job hunting and wonders when the job interviews are taking place in the Glenroyal hotel.

How does googling "when does the new supervalue open in celbridge" help ?

Last thing I saw was "do you know what time?" Which to me meant, "when is it open?"

I didn't see that it was the same poster who was looking for a job. But the same principle still applies...

I know you're excited about using your new toy but google wasn't going to tell Niamh what time the interviews were being held at in Maynooth.

Somebody who saw the add in the paper might have been able to help.

Hopefully she found out and maybe got lucky with a job there.

Cheers for the info. I'd be very surprised if it was ready in 2 and a half weeks though. I drove by it this morning and it looks to be way off completion....maybe 6-8 weeks I'd guess?

It's weird, most of the complex looks very unfinished, but from what I could see the Supervalu store itself looks very near completed, I could see shelves etc fitted inside.

I'd say the Supervalu will open with work continuing with the rest of the building fenced off.

In other news I have it on good authority that the Tougher's petrol station is to be levelled with a McDonald's built in its place. It may be a petrol station/McDonald's set up like they have in Lucan

August 1st to be exact as mentioned five posts earlier, just got a nice glossy brochure in the door, looks like a nice place to shop, it's a pity they give the location map as Portloaise though, too far for me, it never ceases to amaze me how these kind of b**ls up happens with all the planning and reviews that go into these glossy flyers. :pac:

Didn't read the whole thread but scratching my head at yet another supermarket in Celbridge, a town with no swimming pool, no cinema, no hotel, but plenty of grocery shoppers it seems.

Yep, it was and has been bought now and to re-open soon. There is an article in the Liffey Champion this week on it.

Estate agents are always lazy buggers about taking the signs down, and there were kids fighting outside the place for 25 years.

Stumbled out of it once or twice myself but never saw the point of getting involved in the pushing and shoving matches that took place. :)

I wouldn't hold out too much hope for there not being a nightclub in it again unless you can lodge an objection to the licence application and convince Judge Zaidan in Kilcock not to grant it.

At least we can hope there will be a few jobs out of it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 75 ✭✭Sandypants

oh i stumbled out of it a couple of (too many times) myself.....more jobs hopefully & sumwhere new to eat be good aswell!! no point me lodging a complaint....i've since moved up the road....

I had a nosey in the shop yesterday, on opening day. Still a building site beside it but the supermarket itself is (nearly) complete and fully functional. Very nice inside, much bigger than the Maynooth one.
I was taken aback to find there were no disabled parking spaces at all. They will be there "soon".
Had a chat with a few Supervalu people and asked them how they felt about opening the shop to all but the mobility impaired.
They were very apologetic but blamed the builders ;)

I hope they don't put in too many disabled spots as in Tesco. I feel with too many you get people abusing them.

They are going down one side only, so it looks like they have got it right.

I see their aerial advertising is back up flying around Celbridge at the moment, the pilot earned his money yesterday evening avoiding all the thunderstorms.

FYI, if you move to a 'smart' meter electricity plan, you CAN'T move back to a non-smart plan.

You don't have to take a 'smart' meter if you don't want one, opt-out is available.

Buy drinks in 3L or bigger plastic bottles or glass bottles or cartons to avoid the DRS fee.
