Not surprised at all to be honest.
Probably been loss making for a number of years.
It was an old style gym leisure centre which would have required major capital investment to refurbish

agreed - the old model is not going to survive and most smart gyms are moving with the times

    It is a big area.
Are you looking for something near Dundrum, Ranelagh/Clonskeagh, Donnybrook/Ballsbridge or Blackrock side?

Crunch is open for public membership but is closing down when the new UCD gym is completed in a month or two. There will be limited public memberships available for that afaik.

You could add flyefit in Ranelagh to that list if it wasn't too far for you.

It's going to be spanky. There is a bit of info here: http://www.ucd.ie/studentcentre/sc2/ the info on the gym is a bit vague, but I've been told in UCD that its going to be a very good gym. There are artists impressions and plans up in that link which give some idea of what it will be like.

I would imagine it will be expensive for non students/graduates of UCD to be a member. There is a limited number of public memberships available, so they can afford to put a higher price on it, and they'll have to seeing as the college is desperate for money from anywhere at the moment.
