    http://www.donegaldaily.com/2013/04/08/night-from-hell-exhausted-fire-crews-tackle-massive-gorse-blazes/
IT WAS another night from hell for Donegal’s hard-pressed fire personnel as crews worked into the early hours tackling gorse fires in several parts of the county.

Exhausted fire service members are still on standby following several incidents in Inishowen and west Donegal.

The worst of the fires was a mile-wide inferno between Crolly and Loughanure.

Flames also danced high into the night sky at another massive fire on Fahan Hill.

And yet another fire raged overnight near Muckish.

Quite a lot of smoke over the Dublin mountains this evening. Smaller fire visible yesterday evening.

Went hillwalking up near the Sally Gap today. Where I am in Dublin had a faint smell of burning this morning and there was a little bit of fire on the way up.

On the way back about six hours later it was another story. Getting a bit worried about those cars! Sorry for the crap dashcam footage, it only cost €12 from China...

Couldn't take a photo as someone was pretty much tailgating me.

there is quite a lot of smoke in D24 area coming from Dublin mountains. Wind is blowing smoke with ash right towards us, it's getting very unpleasant

Casement reporting 'smoke haze' at 1700.

Could see from here quite a bit of smoke coming from the Dublin Mountains earlier.

This hasn't updated in 2 days, but it's showing an "Extreme" fire risk forecast for a lot of locations over the weekend.

Yep, in Ringsend the smell is everywhere

Clear view of the Howth fire from here in Dun Laoghaire. Its quite localised and at least there is almost no wind on the bay, the plume is rising vertically, hopefully they will get it under control soon

There's a smoke haze and smell here now and a NNE to NE breeze.

That's a restart of the fire from yesterday. Fortunately, it didn't jump the gap between the Ben of Howth and Muck Rock. I'll pop up some video and photos in a while.

Small fire up on Killiney Hill this evening, but thankfully it seems to have been brought under control very quickly.

Nothing like the Summer of 1995 yet for grass and gorse fires.

The busiest Summer we have ever had in Dublin, and around the country no doubt. Came in for your shift and never saw the station. Crazy time but the best of memories.

How the retained crews kept going is beyond me.

This time around there is plenty of radio activity for the whole country but it's not busy..... yet, but will be if the dry spell keeps up

West Cork is getting hit by many fire's today.
Around Schull seems to be worst off.

Ah shur, sounds like the average shift for the ambulance service :pac:

But yeah, Waterford city/county has been seen several over the past few weeks too. Seems a lot of them are malicious.

Any reports of fires around Galway today? There was an awful smell of burnt/burning grass this evening along the motorway between Oranmore and Athenry exits, it went away past that.

Given the time lapse would a new thread not be far better?

I just read all of this without noticing the date and heart in mouth time. Thankful now that that was a few years ago, in fact the year that was so shocking and yes, fires started by farmers. I was in Kerry surrounded by fires

    Thank you
