Solid Feul Vent causing bad draught.

All,

I installed a high vent a few moths back for a gas fire.

Thing is that the vent causes a really bad draught.

Its easy to see why its a bloody 4 inch hole to the outside.

Bought a black and decker thermal leak detector and with a mild enough evening with no wind the room in 20.1 deg and the vent shows at 14 deg on the detector.
No wonder theres a draught.

The gas fire is rarely used (10 times a year) and we use the rad instead.

Any ideas for what I can do to elimate the draught.

You can get draught reducing vents online that slow down the airflow which in turn means you get less of a draught. I think they start around 30 pounds sterling and up. What ever you do don't go bloking it up though cause then you are into the area of causing carbon monoxide when the fire is used and if you get an rgi out to do any work and you have no vent he or she will disconect the fire until its put back. Hope this helps
