Liverpool fans backing City for the title

I've noticed a few "come on City" posts by Liverpool supporting friends of mine on Facebook today.

I understand the rivalry between United and Liverpool, but do Liverpool fans here care which Manchester club wins the league, and is it a little sad when fans focus on other teams to this degree?

    1) No it is not sad
    2) They have to be able to cheer on someone

Liverpool fans hate United with a passion. They don't hate City with that passion. Why do you think they'd want United to win it?

    Non story.

Just on a numbers level it would make sense to support the team with the fewer titles. ie Liverpool used to have the most and now they don't. If they ever get back to winning ways they'd probably like to have as low a target to chase.

They've nothing else to shout about after losing 2 games to relegation fodder like QPR and Wigan in a week has driven them over the edge.

    King Kenny for England :pac:

I'm a United fan and if Liverpool were in the title race with Chelsea/Arsenal, I'd want one of the London clubs to win.

Nothing in it really, fans don't want to see their biggest rivals winning stuff. Simple.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,408 ✭✭✭ft9

Obviously Liverpool fans are rooting for City to win the title.

How many Utd fans would shout on Liverpool if the title race was between Liverpool (absurd I know, but let your imagination run wild here) and Spurs?

    Who cares?

If Liverpool were competing against Everton for the league, I'd be to for the toffees.

This thread isn't about Dalglish or Liverpool the club.

I just find it strange that fans of a club who still have a Cup to play for are picking sides in a title run in that doesn't concern them, and not just wanting one to team to win the title but cheering them on. I was wondering if others felt the same.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,078 ✭✭✭onemorechance

Just like many United fans would prefer see Everton win than Pool.

What has the FA cup got to do with the league? Utd arent playign till Monday, should all UTd fans switch off their computers till then? Outside of the other clubs around Wigan, there wasnt anythign to concern most other clubs in the league on the match thread today, yet there was no shortage of non Liverpool and Wigan fans on it.

You could say that about any topic on any forum. "Why don't you google it/talk to your friends". I thought I'd discuss it here but it seems I made a massive error of judgement.

I ****ing hate Manchester United, so yeah, I've been shouting for Man City to win the title. Even have a bet on with a mate that by the time they play each other at the end of April, City are topping the table. ;)

I was going to post a very similar topic this morning after talking to an acquaintance who is a diehard Chelsea fan. I said to him that he must have been sickened my the Man City comeback last Monday night . Without hesitating, he said..."I was delighted! Love to see City beat the United scum for the title...I was disgusted when Cahill scored"

I cannot understand this mentality at all tbh, especially if your team is chasing CL football. Very very bitter.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,791 ✭✭✭✭Paul Tergat

Its completely understandable when its say Pool fans/ Leeds fans etc as we have a rivalry with them. The only one's that annoy me are say my Bradford City supporting mates. They are ABU's, Pool fans arent.

Yep it is sad, I see United fans reveling in Liverpool losing games, probably sadder!

As for City or United, couldn't careless after the record went.

If everyone hated this topic so much, why read it and post in it? This forum has almost completely turned into United v Liverpool. So annoying.

And the reason is answered above to be honest. I was sickened when Liverpool won the CC, I was sickened when City won the FA Cup last year. I want it all for myself.

Soccer fans are ripe with bitterness. It's just a fact of the sport. The bigger the club the more bitter they are. OP - this thread is jyst a thiny veiled swipe at Liverpool fans. You know it and we know it. My suggestion for you would be to find a new hobby that just involves you, like walking or sitting. I hope you find happiness in your future.

How's that cabinet of yours looking?

City are more entertaining to watch, they seem to have a genuinely good set of fans, all in all they are not really a dislikeable team. Balotelli and his schenanigans would have alot of people endearing themselves to them too.

And the fact United hate them so much makes it all the more worthwhile.

Yeah, it's a bit odd that the Liverpool fans want City to win the title, it's a bit like asking your mate to give your wife an orgasm cos you're not capable of doing it yourself

Hardly see how it is odd. Ireland only qualifies for a tournament once in a blue moon but most of us will watch them every 2 years regardless and have a liking for one or two particular teams to go the distance.

How are Utd and Liverpool rivals really????

Liverpool haven't been main rivals of Utd for years. They may have challenged for a title a few years ago but nothing of substance since.

Its just sad bitter Liverpool heads hanging onto whatever pipe dreams they had of being contenders.

Move on and enjoy ye're the position of minority scousers

    This thread...the f*ck?!

    I particularly loved the comment;
I just find it strange that fans of a club who still have a Cup to play for are picking sides in a title run in that doesn't concern them

You know some fans watch football involving other teams, right? And you know sport in general tends to be more enjoyable if you pick a side, right? And when dealing with Liverpool fans, most would have an anti-United predisposition, right?

    /thread.

You calling them bitter is ironic considering the intent of this post.

Well with such a large fanbase and their team under achieving the past few years that is understandable an expected imo. A lot of people turn to the internet to express themselves and complain.

Of course, if roles were reversed and it was between everton & Liverpool, I dare say you would follow rooneys blues!

Why all this is allowed in a forum that supposedly is hard to get membership of is beyond me.

Yes it's a great time for mancs to take the piss out of scousers (except the one that is their hero) and of course Liverpool fans would prefer to see city win the title and it would be no different in any other city in similar circumstances.

Why do you need to start a thread about it ? You just can't stop talking about us.

Over and over and over and over you start threads and conversations with the word Liverpool, you can't help yourselves, it's understandable, we have a place in the game that you will never have. We haven't been challengers for 20 years but you still all you want to talk about is us.

We start conversations with Manchester no more then we do any other team or city.

You have a dozen songs about us and we have one about you.

You care who we want to see win the title.
