Anybody watch the first day ?? Decent round by Tiger. His fairways hit ratio is probably the best it's ever been. Now if he could only sort the putter. Charlie Wi leads on 6 under.

Tigers driving has been sensational this year, he is 7th on tour....mostly because hes using more three woods, but his driving stats were never that good.

its the flat stick he is struggling with.

only a matter of time before he wins really.

In fact tigers stats this year are very good....

Just realised I don't understand much from the stats sheet other than FIR and GIR!!

Mr Palmer did come across too good IMO when the golf channel interviewed him last night. Was pointing out were his, grandson i think (Saunders), was going wrong and not playing smart golf.

I agree Tiger looks very good, don't bet against him in August. Just wish he would smile a bit and try to enjoy a game that the average Joe would love to have as a job.

Now the leaderboard is after changing and saying he got a 3 on the last. So -9 - great round.

If you look at the stats you linked to in the other post Tiger's putting isn't much off where he was a few years ago. But he is not hitting enough greens, below is the GIR comparison between 2012 and 2008, 2008 on the right - some difference between the two sets of numbers!

    GIR Percentage - 100-125 yards . . . . . 70.83% 136th . . . . . 89.47% 1st
    GIR Percentage - 75-100 yards . . . . . 66.67% 159th . . . . . 60.00% 198th
    GIR Percentage - < 75 yards . . . . . 86.36% 133rd . . . . . 90.63% 39th
    GIR Percentage - 200+ yards . . . . . 40.00% 94th . . . . . 52.78% 22nd
    GIR Percentage - 175-200 yards . . . . . 66.67% 4th . . . . . 70.37% 1st
    GIR Percentage - 150-175 yards . . . . . 65.71% 63rd . . . . . 79.59% 1st
    GIR Percentage - 125-150 yards . . . . . 67.74% 110th . . . . . 70.00% 122nd
    GIR Percentage - < 125 yards . . . . . 77.55% 166th . . . . . 87.50% 2nd
    GIR Percentage - < 100 yards . . . . . 84.00% 125th . . . . . 86.49% 84th

    You guys are crazy.

Tigers passed it. Too old. Not interested. Never reach McIlroy heights in his career etc.

    Oh wait..

Yeah because loads of posters were saying that

Delighted I got him at 13/2 for the Masters, into 9/2 now and will be shorter if he wins on Sunday, which I expect him to do.

Gmac has been playing decent since the start of the year, nice to see him up at the top of the boards again.

I'm just glad they've got a reason to show coverage of him, unlike that whole fiasco of showing him leaving the course, putting his clubs in the boot and driving away from course, reaching the interstate, popping into IHOP for a maple covered treat with a diet cola

Did anybody see a bit of ridiculous production today.

Pardon my cynicism but they were showing McDowell talking about his personal issues in the last 2 years, then they cut straight to a player called Gay who was on like +1 taking a shot.

    Was real cute and disgraceful.

The American coverage has been brutal for the last hour or so.

    Very cringeworthy stuff.

That's some golf shot by woods. Out of bounds. Guy still has some serious kinks in that swing.

He did seem to be put off by a random shout in the background though. There's houses all round that course and I have noticed what sounds like just random half-p*ssed shouts in the distance during the coverage.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 252 ✭✭speeding

But that far off line even if someone was shouting. I honestly can't see Tiger winning after that double. Guy is mentally scarred. Really hopes he shoots a round in the 60s tomorrow to win but can't see him beating par. Another 6-12 months before he's totally comfortable with foleys teaching.

    GMac vs Tiger

    Popcorn ready, Can't wait...

    :)

How can Simon Whatshisface on Sky Sports say he feels Tiger will walk away with it tomorrow?? Has he not being watching golf for the last three years??

GMac to get it done tomorrow... but I do hope Tiger plays well - it sets up a heck of a Masters tournament in a fortnight...

Simon Holmes is one of the big reasons I watch the sky golf.

Love his technical analysis of the top players and how he is able to diagnose the problems of the pros.

    Think ha is brilliant TBH!!!!

Woods to win by 3 or 4 I reckon

My two fav golfers in the final group. Happy days.

What happened to McDowell ?? 2 over after first

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 948 ✭✭✭SSK

Plugged lie in the bunker after a poor 2nd shot. Very ropey start and Tiger really should cruise from here.

Sky's love affair with Poulter continues, talking him up even though he's just had a bogey

Edit - 3 putt for Tiger on 2, lead back to 2 shots

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 252 ✭✭speeding

This ain't going to be straightforward at all for woods !! McDowell will push him to the wire I fancy.

Jonny Miller not making very nice comments about the Irish - he suggested McDowell's loss of form after his US open win had to do with the Irish over celebrating just like Darren Clarke. He threw in for good measure that McIlroy was over socialising.

McDowell drained his eagle putt to put Jonny in his place.

So clearly said in jest, you sensitive soul you.

Tigers got all the shots today. Gmac being Gmac, dogged.

What a shot by woods. Looking like he's finally in control of his golf swing again. Him and McIlroy down the back 9 at Augusta. Please let it happen !!!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,106 ✭✭✭✭MisterAnarchy

I'm going to tape this and fast forward through all the waffle later, the coverage is diabolical.
Basically just showing everything Tiger does ,practice swings, checking wind direction with grass, walking to ball, its painful.
After Tigers shot we get the Golf channel commentators talking bull**** ,blatantly plugging the sponsors ,then we get the Sky crew talking more guff ,then an ad before coming back to see Tiger's next shot.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,238 ✭✭✭Deank

I wish they'd stop circling where shots should go with that stupid yellow pen:mad:, jaysus it makes watching yank coverage even more unbearable.
    C'MON GMAC......:D
