Sport injury! MRI?

    Hi all,

Have been suffering from a chronic heel problem for about 2 years or more. Seems there's some calcium build up around the achilles heel but after getting some sound shock therapy (7 sessions) the pain hasn't subsided.

Has anyone got any similar treatment for a similar injury.

Just really looking for some advice about whether I should get an MRI. And if so where would be a good place to go in Dublin. Santry Sports Clinic is a bit out of the way as I'm Southside.

Am really frustrated with this having not ran since early Dec.

    Any help greatly appreciated.

I have had 2 MRI scans in South Dublin. First one was in a place above the VHI clinic in Sandyford, the other was in the Beacon Hospital.

As far as I know, you need a doctors letter to get a MRI

OP that sucks! No one here can give you medical advice! See a professional! This topic has been asked I'd say 3-4 times in the past couple of weeks! (Edit:Not trying to be an ass)

I recommend the santry sports clinic-surely a bus ride or 2 isnt that big a deal if it can relieve your problem ......and your frustration.Small price to pay if you ask me.

I got my MRI's done in euromedics santry... Right next to santry sports clinic. My health insurance covered the scan in euromedics but not santry sports clinic.

    Thanks for the reply guys.

Have been to the VHI sports doctor in Dundrum and he's excellent but all he could really do is administer a cortisone injection which didn't work.

I have a referal letter from him for shock therapy but just seem a bit negative at the moment.

I have no insurance - How much did the VHI scan cost can you tell.

I can't get off work from Mon to fri so Santry is a problem.

Are there any alternative treatments that I could persue for what seems to be a mechanical problem. i'e not sure if accupuncture would help but am open to anything now.

    But thanks again.

Euromedic in Dundrum (above the Balally Luas station) do MRIs... as far as I remember it can cost from 240euro.

If its a mechanical problem as you said have you thought about having a biomechanical assessment from a podiatrist?

I ve had 2 MRI's this year - both with euromedic Santry.

There is one in Dundrum if your on the southside.

Its €245 if you call but €195 if you book online (very easy).

Bring your referral letter on the day. Usually get the results in 24 hours.

And as you've said people should note that you can get a referral from a chartered physio as well as a GP.

Half the battle is know whats wrong rather than guessing.

I was misdiagnosed and treated for a muscle injury but had a partially avulsed tendon. I'd always recommend to someone that if they aren't improving to get a scan - i spent far too long doing the wrong thing and paying through the nose.

They open very early, I think I had my first MRI at 07:30, they burned the results onto a disc for me there and then! I was in work at 09:00!

Get the MRI, make sure you don't have any tears in your tendon. Trust me, I have gone through 18 months of this... I had a tear right at my heel, I am only just back running now. I had to get a prp injection in the tendon and two months in a boot!

I wasted about ten months with physio & stretching. I was doing more damage. Get the MRI, show the results to a doctor... Go from there.

    Thanks all for your replies.

I had contacted my doctor who referred me to the Chartered Medical clinic in Smithfield but have decided to try Amatsu treatment after hearing some very positive accounts.
