Anyone planning on watching it ... on TV3 right now, they're going to dissect a body of an elderly man in front of an audience of 500 people. (Not to mention film crews)

I don't know what to think yet ...

The autospy itself is ten years old. Hard to believe. I remember watching some of it the first time around.

Oh really? Didn't know that now. To be honest 10 years ago I was 11 so I wouldn't have watched it then!

Why not? It teaches you a great deal about how the body functions

Ten years ago I was 15. I don't remember a whole lot about it though.

I know but I'd much rather watch comedies, big money series' etc, there are people who watch these shows religiously like they're following a soap :p

I feel oddly nervous as this is happening, I think it's because I don't know what to expect. I guess I'm so used to the 'horror movie' idea that what was revealed, while was very surprising and shocking, was not what I expected.

I am very interested in watching this so far, when my brother died an autopsy was issued, and i often wondered what was the procedure and how they came to the results...

    Why?

Had the dead man given his consent in advance, to be chopped up on telly after he died ??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 629 ✭✭✭Sierra 117

I don't think he gave permission for his autopsy to be televised.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,378 ✭✭✭Krieg

Meh, it seems to be more concerned about audience reactions and the camera man seems more interested in vonguttenburgs arse (or whatever his name is)...

He donated it towards scientific research

lol @ how the audience clapped when they pulled his entrails out though.. that ain't science!

Well they mentioned that he had donated his body for educational purposes. That's why it's been fixed with formaldehyde. Unfixed tissue looks very different. I would liken it to the difference between cooked and raw meat.

Is this the same show or is it heavily edited for the squeamish Ireland folk?

They are not showing anything, the cameramen were right in there but we get nothing but mugs in the audience.

I agree, the camera work is a joke, just showing the audience, I wanted to see the gory details but so far saw damn all. This could of been broadcast on the radio and would of been just as good

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,378 ✭✭✭Krieg

If this autopsy was accurate, it would be performed by hung over med students who would chop the penis off and slip it into some girls jacket pocket

I'm watching at the moment but like other people have said they're showing more of the audience than anything else.

I bet you anything they held back on some things. You can view far better autopsies online if you know where to find them.

I think that man's was abnormally enlarged due to him having heart failure.

The said at the end his heart was enlarged due to extra stress and pressure put on it. He died of a heart attack

When appearing in public, even when performing anatomical dissections, von Hagens always wears a black fedora (a reference to the hat worn in The Anatomy Lesson of Dr. Nicolaes Tulp by Rembrandt)

Misleading thread title. Subject was clearly dead.

No he didn't. There was no evidence of infarction. He had an enlarged heart due to either prolonged hypertension, heart failure or a cardiomyopathy. This would have put him at increased risk of sudden arrythmic death, which they said may have been the cause of death.

The purpose of this autopsy was not to ascertain the cause of death. You don't fix the body with formaldehyde and wait 3 months if you really want to find out the cause of death. The man who performed the autopsy is the same guy that does that body worlds exhibition with plastinated bodies.
