Horses to watch out for in 2012's Flat Season?

Last year was the first year I really followed the flat and like most people Frankel blew me away, that run in the 2000 guineas literally sent shivers down my spine. Another favourite of mine is St Nicholas Abbey and it was great to see him win in the States at the back end of last year. I see he has been entered in a race during the Dubai World Cup meeting, hopefully he can do the business over there as well.

Just wondering if people have any horses I should look out for this upcoming season.

    Thanks

"Born To Sea" half brother to Sea the Stars trained by John Oxx, his first race which he won was a listed race, his second race a group 3 he stumbled coming out of the stalls and pulled a muscle but still managed to be 2nd by 1 and half lengths despite the injury. this is a not so high profile horse but looked amazing when i saw it win its maiden at Leopardstown in August by 6 lengths "Singe The Turf" trained by Jim Bolger, now it hasn't run since that maiden so its possible it's injured or even been sold

Sirius prospect will be a top sprinter this year
Backed him all last season and he made me a bomb
His last race was his first at listed level and the ground was too soft but he still won
Trainer said after race he almost withdrew him because of ground
On quicker ground he is much better and will compete in graded races I'm sure
    Can't wait for his return

Camelot for the Derby and Fame and Glory for the long distance group 1.

It was a high profile horse he's a full brother to Soldier of Fortune.

Fury is a horse I really lie for the Lincoln. There's a full sister to Henrythenavigator at Ballydoyle too think she's a three year old

O'Brien's Spin should win sooner rather than later if given opportunities over 10f me thinks.

Moynahan I'd back in an 8f race on good or good to firm off a mark of 80 or less, going Wed at Kempton at 6.00pm and could well win but will be very short price wise I expect.

Neither are for the purists but hey ho :pac:

Any recommendations for a flat season form book? Theres quite a few and I have never bought one but I know it would be handy. The Raceform one is pretty hefty - is it worth it? I watched the whole of last season closely but I've got a head like a sieve so I'll definitely get one of them. One for Britain and one for Ireland or a combined one even better.

Aidan O Brien commented that Camelot could be one of their best ever. The Irish Field reported that on a stable tour.

Does he not say that every year though??

Camelot is only 3. He couldn't be saying that about him every year.

I didn't mean about that specific horse. I meant that he generally comes out every year with the 'he could be the best we've ever had' ****e about his best 2 year old.

Even though I feel the NH season is reaching its pinnacle, I think, given that the flat season is starting soon, we'll just have to put up with the heathens who are far too eagre to start discussing the flat season! :pac:

yeah lads that seems about par for the course with O'Brien these days, "So You Think" is a perfect example of that, now don't get me wrong fantastic horse but in the end he is beatable and not the "best horse in the world" they were toting him as, I was getting the idea when Johnny Murtagh was talking about the horses that he was having a hard time going with the Coolmore party line, he was saying it but you could tell he didn't actually believe it, O'Brien and Ballydoyle are amazing but playing "guess the pace maker" with there top horses was insanely frustrating

Anyone care to guess which middle distance prospect O'Brien will mention to have so much "natural speed" this year?

Must respect his training ability & achievements but the constant hyping that goes with the Coolmore job really gets on my wick

Giants Causeway and Rock of Gibraltor I reckon have been O Briens best ever.

Not a horse but I'll be keeping a keen eye on Andrew Oliver this year.
Been in outstanding form on the all-weather, and seems to have a great knack at picking the right race for his horses.
Trained Dodging bullets last season to a few wins, who looks to be going on to big things after two great performances for Nicholls over hurdles.

Firstly, Camalot will win everything.I won my biggest bet last year in Gowran on Daddy Long Legs who was their Ledger horse but they f...ed him up in America. They have some super Footstepsinthesand 2 yr olds. For what its worth watch all 2yr olds by Mount Nelson this year[ I think they trained it].There is one very good filly by him in England.

Extremely doubt they have some super Footstepsinthesand 2 yr olds cause theirs none in the yard. Mount Nelson will be a useless flat sire, and that is a pretty vague recommendation about a good filly in England by him.

I liked Kissed last year from her only outing

Not quite sure how Daddy Long Legs was supposed to be last year's Leger horse when he was only 2.......

He meant for this year Colonel. He said it a few times last year

Didn't see any NH stallion, we were down at Feathard where they just have the flat ones. Ones we were shown were Galileo, Pour Moi, Yeats,Starspangledbanner, Rock of Gibraltar, Fastnet Rock, Canford Cliffs, Thewayyouare and Mastercraftsman

Bus driver made a balls of getting there so we arrived 1 hour and 15 minutes late so missed the 2 year olds work. We got to go up to the Iron Horse stable where they keep the older horses and top three year olds. I noticed an unraced 3 year old kept there, that rang alarm bells seeing as he was with the top ones. Must be good

Twirl, a full sister to Misty For Me is running today at the Curragh in a Gp 3. She won her maiden by 6 1/2 lengths last year so she could be a right good one.

Was down in Coolmore about 4 years ago for the open day when they used to have it in January. Sadly don't think they do it anymore.

All the stallions both NH and Flat were there - Saddlers Well and George Washington were there then. Took the world of photos and treated really well, food, books, dvds, hats, you name it. Like being a child in a sweet shop.

The grooms would led a group of people around in a tour and took about 2 hours. Great bits of detail they would tell you about the place. Shown the stables, the yards, breeding sheds etc.

I was at one of those open days there as well a few years ago. It was great.
AOB said Camelot isn't 100% certain to run in the Guinneas after yesterday's workout at the Curragh.

This horse Orfevre will be favourite for the 2012 Arc De Triomphe if he turns up. Last years Japanese triple crown winner and one of the freakiest races you're ever going to see. He's number 12 and the race doesn't go to plan, the commentary is in Japanese but the race is worth watching anyway.

Here is he is doing it the right way, a real superstar.

Don't know what is worse the camerawork or the jockey. What the fluich was he doing in the first race?

His latest race over 1m7f was incredible. Serious horse....serious horse.

Sorry, got excited when I saw his name and didn't read the rest of the post.

He's one of those freakishly good horses like a Dancing Brave or Sea the Stars. What planet was the Jockey on, that ride has to be one of the worst ever and on one of the greats.

Jockey looked to be getting run away with and when something went wrong he couldn't put it right. Machine of a horse!

My Dad has bread 3 horses from Westerner, the oldest one, a 4 year old won a bumper in southwell at the tail end of last year called 'I shot the Sheriff' beating Tony McCoy on the favourite in that race and he also performed admirably in Royal Ascot a couple of months back when Royal Guardsman won that ****-hot bumper!
He sold him at the time for 30k I recall.

All of his offspring seem to be coming good.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 18,335 ✭✭✭✭UrbanSea

Unraced horse I was on about is called Marchese Marconi.

Take a look at Along in the first race tomorrow you will hardly see a better bred filly all year. Grand dam is the great Urban Sea, the dam is a full sister to Galileo, she's by Smart Strike, half sister to last year's Oaks runner up Wonder of Wonders who was by Kingmambo
