iTunes Keeps Stopping and Starting

I've had this problem for about a week and it's driving me mad.

When I'm listening to music from my iTunes (with my iPod connected) it will randomly pause the song for a couple of seconds and then start again from where it stopped. This can happen up to 6-8 times on the one track. When I'm listening to my iPod this doesn't happen so I'm sure there's nothing wrong with it.

Is there anything that I can do to fix this? Any help is appreciated, thanks.

    PC or Mac?

Does this only happen when the iPod is connected?

It's a PC. It seems to only happen when my iPod is connected.
