Audi BLB Engine Code

I've had my eye on a 2005 Audi 2.0 TDi ... my reading however seems to have brought up a (frequent?) fault with an oil pump / balance shaft failure on the BLB engine... (threads I've come across about it - number1 & number2).

While I've been reading around, my complete lack of knowledge (and seeming inability to type the correct query into searchers) means I'm not sure whether this is something that is a case of having a part/s replaced that prevents this fault or whether it's something that could just happen regardless.

I suppose, what I'm trying to find out is if I look at the cars service history book, would it have the details of replacement parts for this failure recorded in it and if they have been replaced that the car is good to go and, if no replacement parts have been done, worth staying away from?

I've searched and again my complete lack of knowledge :o (and searchability) means I'm not sure if all 2005 Audi A4 2.0TDi have the BLB engine...is that the case?

    Thanks for any guidance offered.

I think the chain problem on this engine is reason enough to stay away from them, it is not the same problem that affects most 2.0's where the hex drive wears.
