Banker: Boston Bob (assuming he runs in the Albert Bartlett)
Bismark: Grand Crus (assuming he runs in the RSA)

Speculative tip at a double figure price: Its A Gimme (County Hurdle)

Best ante-post: Salut Flo 20/1 (Festival Plate)

Worst ante-post: where do you want me to start!

I suggest people don't rip each others picks apart. Just post their selections & leave the actual discussions to the various threads

    the obvious bankers....
    hurricane fly, sprinter sacre, quevega.

    my bankers....
"al ferof" to beat sprinter think with ruby on board will have to much for barry.
"hold on julio" to walk the jlt specialty

    my outsider is
"munkerty tunkerty" in the foxhunters. i backed him 2 weeks ago at 25/1 its now 10/1 think someone else likes its chance too

Peddler's Cross must be a great lay for the Jewson at 7/2

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,285 ✭✭✭Oscars Well.

    Banker: Long Run (Gold Cup)
    Lay: Grand Crus (RSA)
Speculative tip at a double figure price: Chill (Fred Winter)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,838 ✭✭✭Nulty

Banker: Hurricane Fly (Haven't backed him but he wins)
    Bismark: Darlan

Speculative tip at a double figure price: Abergavenny (County Hurdle)

Best ante-post: Divers 16/1 (Festival Plate)

Worst ante-post: Haven't lost any yet but jumped the gun with Abergavenny and took 20s, have bigger prices now though

Actually, just found out Realt Dubh is going for the QMCC. Still don't think 40/1 on BF was a bad bet under the circumstances. Hindsight is 20-20.

    Banker: Scotsirish
    Bismark: Sprinter Sacre

    Outsider: Shop DJ (Mare's Hurdle)

Best AP Bets: Sir Des Champs 16/1 (RSA), Pique Sous 25/1 (Bumper)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,369 ✭✭✭UnitedIrishman

Bankers: Hurricane Fly (being the obvious one), Boston Bob (little less obvious).

Bismarks: Peddlars (the stable not exactly brimming with confidence over him).

Have a niggling doubt about Sizing Europe in the back of my mind too for some reason.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,404 ✭✭✭mr.jingle

    Banker: Quevega/Big Bucks double.

    Bismarck: Grands Crus

Outsiders: Sir Johnson(Bumper) + Going Wrong( Ferdy Murphy's usual Cheltenham handicap snip!)

Not had many ante post bets but have Sizing Europe 2/1 and Cinders and Ashes 16/1

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 425 ✭✭billy_beckham

Banker: Long Run, despite the pilot and the issues with jumping cannot have anything else in the race.
Bismark : Sizing Europe, you have to go back to Moscow Flyer (05) and then back to One man (98)to find a horse in double digits agewise who's won the CC. But maybe I'm still bitter about the CH in 08 :D

Have Pique Sous @ 16's in bumper, fingers crossed!

Good hunting to all next week....

    Bismark---Noble Prince

    Double figures-- Hisaabaat

Grand Crus is so many people's lay of the meeting that he might actually become a bit of value. I have a big doubt about him staying, but if ill happily take 5/2 about that chance on the day in the RSA.

Banker for me is Quevega. Bismarks are Al Ferof at 5/2 and Finians Rainbow. Long shot is Poqiulan (spelling)

Are you on drugs. You must be. Look through all his form. I might put you on ignore.

A grade one winner, a head 2nd to the Arkle second favourite who is the highest rated novice so far this season. Your very hard to please

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 18,335 ✭✭✭✭UrbanSea

That may be so but 2 miles around Sandown might be sharp enough for Al Ferof. I'm a big Champion Court fan for the Jewson

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 18,335 ✭✭✭✭UrbanSea

But the main point I was making was the form of his last run. Michael Flips is no graded horse, that'll be the weakest Grade 1 in Britain this year I'd sa

Sandown is not a sharp track, and it takes a hell of a lot of jumping round. I don't mind you disagreeing with me because it's all just opinion but please try to make some sense.

But still may be sharp enough for Al Ferof. All I'm saying is that I'd be surprised if he's good enough for the Jewson based on his last run. I can see Solix and Champion Court being ahead of him, as well as Cristal Bonus.

    Banker - Hurricane fly
    Lay - Long run
Outsider - Hectors choice 20/1(PP) in the JLT, Fortification 25/1 in the XC
    Multiple - Quevega/Big bucks/Grand crus 7.8 on betfair

Can't understand the negativity towards Grand crus, IMO he is the most likely winner of the RSA

    Wish people would give reasons.

Having a bismark with nothing to explain why is stupid.

Banker (Non favourite) - Hunt Ball - Pulteney Land Investments Novices' Handicap Chase, an improving horse who has won his last three starts and still looks to be ahead of the handicapper

Bismark - Long Run, for me he is not as good as he was last year and with the re-emergence of Burton Port and Weird Al and the potential appearance of Grands Crus is reason enough for me.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,669 ✭✭✭Colonel Sanders

My Bismark is Grand Crus. I want to oppose nearly every fancied runner in the RSA. A lot of the reasons are similar to my thoughts 2 years ago!

    http://touch.boards.ie/thread/2055842534?page=1

Everyone seemed shocked after the result but the RSA is often won by the stoutest stayer & not the classiest individual. I backed Weird Al in 2010 NRNB, didn't run. Citizen Vic (RIP) may well have been placed had he stood up. This year I've had half a point each way on Lambro at 25/1 for very similar reasons.

    Bismarck beaten

Will make Abergavenny the Speculative tip in the Coral Cup. Looked like he needed stepping up last time so Coral will probably suit better

Couple of people (myself included) have their heads on the block tomorrow in the RSA! Looks like Grand Crus will start pretty short.

I dunno, I think some will be willing to lay him. I have a feeling someone will offer 2/1 at some stage tomorrow

I wouldn't touch him. RSA is not a race for putting faith in short priced favs

I just don't understand why Bobs Worth is so short in the market. Ok he's turned the form around with Silviniaco Conti since Kempton but I wonder just how right Silviniaco Conti was the last day.

As Urban Sea said in another thread Join Together looks like he could represent the value in this - he's proven over course and distance twice which means he should at least stay the trip.

Gran Crus is the class horse in the race but as you say it's not always the classiest animal that wins this...

In the last few years you've had Cooldine and Denman win out of the shorties and Time for Rupert lose.

Grand Crus is a funny one. I have doubts about him getting home but would probably risk that if I was getting 2/1. On the flip side, if he went to Evs I'd probably lay. His price is about right at the moment.

I have Join Together at 9's but might lay that off too. Strange race really, I also think Bobs Worth and First Lieutenant are plenty short enough considering what they've achieved on the track. Sometimes the "past festival winners" thing gets overstated

Would you prefer to go in on Sizing at, say, evens as opposed to Gran Crus?

7/2 he started i think? Not trying to be pedantic. Yeah I might let the 9's ride on JT for an interest. I didn't like Tom Segal's comments though that he thinks JT will be lapped. I know it's only one opinion but i'd tend to respect Segal's more than most for obvious reasons

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 18,335 ✭✭✭✭UrbanSea

Went off 11/4, I remember him being much shorter in the morning.

I think that's a huge exaggeration. He won it well last time out and is unexposed over fences (edit: mind you it is a novice race so most of them aren't exposed_

With the 5 day decs in thought people might want to stick their necks out:

Banker: Boston Bob (assuming he runs in the Albert Bartlett)
Bismark: Grand Crus (assuming he runs in the RSA)

Speculative tip at a double figure price: Its A Gimme (County Hurdle)

Best ante-post: Salut Flo 20/1 (Festival Plate)

Bismark sinks but I didn't actually lay it. Considered throwing an in running lay up at 1.6 but left it. Traded at a low of 1.61 so I'd have been physically ill had I

It's A Gimme out of the county so hoping Salut Flo can land the gamble tomorrow and Boston Bob can prevent the English horses winning all 3 big novice hurdles outside the Triumph

Had a nice start with Cinders and Ashes.
My outsiders were exactly like that! Outsiders
Sizing Europe was arguably unlucky we'll never know what would've happened had they jumped the last. Grands Crus was pretty disappointing to be honest didn't fancy him at all but thought he'd have gone closer

Well done for keeping the faith. I was against GC as I thought he might be outstayed, hadn't been impressed with BW & FL's jumping, thought Join Together was a 4m horse & he didn't like spring ground in last yrs Albert Bartlett. Picked the wrong Mullins horse to have my small each way on alas.

Yeah their jumping had been bad but I just had confidence the course and ground would bring out the best in them. Not to mention being primed for the day, Bobs Worth has a serious engine.

Could see those two fighting out the finish in the Gold Cup next year with a bit of normal improvement.
