So a friend of mine called to me today - and informed me apparantly you need at least 2 hugs a day in order to not become depressed(a mag she read)

She was annoyed because she had 1 today:confused:

Ive had 4... 2 from my hubby- and 2 from 2 nieces(1 each)

Since when did people register physical affection with depression??

How many cuddles have u had today- and are you depressed because of them???????

You do get depressed from a lack of physical contact. I went through years without a hug and I'm a mess.

0 I wasn’t depressed about that before and now I am depressed thanks OP :(

I used to hug my dog, (once I nearly strangled him, that's how much I loved him), but now I have to hug my teddy. :(

Yeah, he snapped at me and I started crying. Then we forgave each other and eloped. :)

It's true that physical contact is good for your mental health (with the exception of violence obviously).

But if your friend actually believes that the rule is "two hugs a day or you'll need some anti-depressants to get you through" then she's being a bit thick.

And I always thought a "cuggle" was the name for a small polar bear. Shít, no wonder I don't get hugs as I keep refusing cuggles (where would I store them?)

Really? I haven't had a 'cuggle' in months :( lol

'Cuggle' sounds like something you'd find on Urban Dictionary that sounds innocent but involves enemas, bestiality and gambling.

Okay then tonight take the old Swords rd out to the big sycamore tree. Park across from it and leave your lights on and your window open

Never really did hugs until recently over the last few months. Wouldn't say a lack of'em affected me in any negative way. But, do feel the comfort that's there having someone close alright.

When I'm single it's one of the big things that I miss. you don't tend to appreciate them as much, I think, when you're in a relationship.

I'm a big fan of cuddles.
    And spooning.
There is literally nothing that spooning won't cure.
I have been ill today and I literally cannot wait for the housemate to come home for a good spooning session.

I don't think everyone needs or wants physical contact in the same way.
Some people are just more touchy feely than others.
On a touchy feely scale, I would classify myself as "fondling".

Is it possible for people to grow out of it, as well? I would have been very grabby and physical towards other people for years but am less nowadays. It is unusual. Anyway, I have had no hugs today and won't get any.

Can you become manic if you get too many cuggles cuddles?

Cuddling is fantastic. Best hangover cure ever. I get ossified drunk just to get cuddles the next day.

Seems like you have an addiction. To cuddles!

And a pretty poor relationship with whomever is cuddling you.

She doesn't like TOO much cuddling - not from a touchy-feely, fondly-gropey, tiddle-your-widdley kind of a family. Some people are so repressed.

So I slip her some roofies and...

Cuddles are the best thing! I just cannot get enough. I even hug the guys in work (they pretend to hate it) but it really does cheer everyone up!

I couldn't count the amount I give in any one day. I am the type of person that will see a stranger in the street that might be upset and want to give them a big cuddle. Sorts out all the problems.

When wimminz have big breasts they are the bestest at cuddling. :)

Tall people give the best hugs! A friend of mine is about 6ft 7 and whenever we're out drinking I spend most of my time wrapped up with him. :D Snuggy.

Affection in relationships or close family/friendships is grand, but I feel really uncomfortable around people who have an incessant need to hug me at random for no apparent reason, it's weird and needy as hell and freaks me right out.

'Two hugs a day' to fend off depression, is your friend four?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,208 ✭✭✭coco_lola

I had 3 hugs today. Don't feel any different to how I did before the 3 hugs. I'm not convinced

I am a very tactile person. Guys in work get a hug when we meet (don't see them all that often, we are spread out all over the country), friends get hugs, family. Hugs instantly make me feel better :)
