Just after looking at the odds there on Paddy Power, obviously McIlroy and Woods are favorites as to be expected.
But only have 3 people in the field with higher odds than the Champion Golfer of the Year, Mr Clarke @300/1. Shows how far he has fallen in such a short space of time.

Would have to suspect another top 5 for McIlroy, and Mickelson i think may have another strong week. Not convinced with Woods just yet.

Wouldn't surprise me if McIlroy 'bounced' a bit this week and finished midfield, maybe. He's been knocking on the door for weeks, top 3s and top5s pretty much every week... He's had the big win now, he might just have a quieter tournament this week after all that.

It's going to be deadly, top class field. Rory's last comp before the Masters

Yeah he could finish mid table with everything going on in the last week but he could also win it

i'd say rory will do well this week, he better, i have him in my fantasy team.

keeping an eye on g-mac this week.

McDowell could have a strong showing this week then so if the winds do pick up. Cheeky punt on Garcia to finally win again on the PGA Tour?

Rory must be knackered at this stage... not sure he can perform aswell as we know he can.

Lots are picking Charl Schwartzel. I reckon anyone of 10/12 could win it. Wide open.

OK having a good time with the golf picks as of recent times, not like it was that hard to predict McIlroy's win but anyway.

Paddypower have Keegan Bradley at 35/1 and are paying 6 places. He's been in the top 25 every event so far this season and has over a million $'s in the bank after 7 events ..!! Has to be worth a shot for a place.

Would not back anyone to win outright as it stands unless it's McIlroy, that's pretty obvious really, it would be a double bet as you would be backing the pick to play well and McIlroy to play poorly. Hard to call. Rory at 6/1 is good bet no matter what way you look at it, but suspect previous posters might be right and he might be a little tired after recent adventures.

Also be interesting to see how Donald plays this weekend, not a lot of time before the Masters, needs to pick up his game.

Steve Palmer in his Racing Post column last week before the Honda Classic wrote off McIlroy's chances stating tiredness after finishing 2nd in the Matchplay. I don't recall anyone saying after a Tiger Woods win that he wouldn't win the following week cos he would be tired. Rory is as fit or fitter than most and I've no doubt he will play well and be in contention as usual. Whether he'll win or not will be down to a few putts being holed or missed at the end of the day.

    k.p.h.

would doral suit jiminez? He's in nice form at the mo.

thinking of throwing down on the mechanic for a top 10 finish. paddy power have him at 12-1 for a top 10.

hopefully Martin Laird at 66/1 isnt a bad bet

I'm with you on Bradley, I think he's a great bet at that price as well as the bonus of 6 places being paid.

this from paul lawries blog :

    Tuesday 6th March
We arrived into Miami on Sunday evening, when it was eventually my turn at immigration the guy asked me the reason for my visit, I said "playing in a golf tournament" he said "same one as Tiger?" I said "Yep" he said "You a pro?" I said "Yep" he looked at my name and then looked at me and shook his head and said "I don't know you man!" I said "that's ok, I don't know you either so we're even bud!"
It has been very windy both days of practise so it's been difficult to feel how the holes should play. I have been up pretty early again, which is ok as you get out onto the course while it's quiet. I tested some new Wilson wedges and a new three wood, which are all really nice and I'm looking forward to putting them into play soon.

ladbrokes are giving the stake back if you finish second to rory.

i see the point about him being tired, i dont think he'll be tired physically but maybe will be mentally. of course he might go out and walk it. his form has been super this season.

backed the tiger myself on the back of that 62.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,317 ✭✭✭big_drive

    I went with:

    Luke Donald €5 e/w @ 25/1

    Justin rose €5 e/w @ 50/1

Is the McIlroy group teeing off at 4.50 (Irish time) ?

One thing is for sure. We're gonna see every shot that Tiger makes tonight. It really is infuriating. As much as I respect the golfer, I hate the man.

    Speaking of..eh...man...

I think Hunter Mahan will put up a bold show. The course will suit martin laird's strengths too.

Steve Palmer tips dustin johnson for this. I think he'll struggle personally. No cut in this one so expect to see a lot of target practise on the twins on day one.

FYI the opening hole is easy. Par that and it's like a bogey. The 18th is a nightmare.

    Sergio for me.

Westwood having a terrible front nine...4 over.

Sergio and Bjorn moving along nicely.

TW started great but is now back to level par after 6.

Has the makings of a good weekend of golf.

I'll have to get myself a pair of those McIlroy pants:eek:

Does he get dressed in the dark or something??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 948 ✭✭✭SSK

    Sergio :(

Was it heavyballs that was really sweet on Scott this week? Looks like a great shout at the moment.

Rory played brutal and is still only +1 and in with a shout. Nothing out of Tiger really. Clarke ruined a solid round with a 7 at the last.

Here's an outrageous question. Anyone know if you could pay on the gate for this? I'm arriving in Miami tomorrow and will be there until Monday, tickets still available on ticketmaster.com for 40$ for the Sunday but don't want to commit to it right now? The reason I ask is if anyone has ever been at a tournament like this before in the states?

That 18th really brought them down to our level, one in four in the water!!

I heard the commentator say about Garcia as he was finishing the 18th that he was in the water twice. Do you know if he meant during the round or just on that hole?

  • Subscribers Posts: 4,419 ✭✭✭PhilipMarlowe

    Twice on that hole.
Driver into water, dropped out and 3 wood 3rd shot also into the water "near" the green.

Saw 15 minutes of this last night and I saw Darren Clarke do exactly the same thing.... 2 Balls in the water and a 7

Great start today for Rory, eagle birdie... -2 now after 2 holes

This drives me nuts, and I know it's because it's Tiger. We see 4 or 5 shots in a row, just the shots, not the pre-shot routine, the lining up etc. But when it comes to Tiger, we see everything, the grass throwing, the lining up, the pre-shot routine and the put, with a replay of his reaction.

    ARGH!!

Except when he vandalises the course after chipping into the bunker. Seriously bad example to be setting and I hope he is sanctioned.

First time I have seen Bradley remotely flustered on the course.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,015 ✭✭✭link_2007

Is there a particular reason why there is no cut in this tournament or is the decision at the discretion of the organisers/sponsors?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,200 ✭✭✭jjll

no cut in wgc tournys there are only 74 playing this week

fancy the tiger to go very low today but i've probably jinxed him now. He really is driving the ball the best he ever has in his whole career !! if he could get back to his infallibility with the flatstick he'll win a few more majors.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,057 ✭✭✭irish bloke

put a few quid on rory, tiger and donald finishing in the top 10
