What's nicer to drive? Sprinters or Transits.

For many years as I grew up, my traditional view of make and model of an Ambulance was a Ford Transit.
These days it seems to be the Mercedes Benz sprinter although I have seen the odd new Transit sneak in here and there.
So in the eyes of the people who drive and work in these vehicles, which company make the better, more reliable ambulances? Ford, Mercedes Benz or someone else from the past (LDV, Bedford, Renault?)

    This too shall pass.

Sprinter is more comfy, the engine isn't screaming at you "change gear now". Suspension is better too. At speed it's easy to think the transit is running away from you.

Sprinters for motorway and long hauls, anything twisty though it's got to be a swb transit!

The new ford remounts in the NAS are a great drive, 200 bhp, 3.2 diesel
The ride in the rear is smoother than the WAS mercs.

From a nice Flickr set, oh remember when Ambulance attendants (or what ever they were called back then) used to drive ambulances with sliding cab doors which they never shut.

    This too shall pass.

I've driven both and always preffered the sprinter but I can't understand why they didn't supply them with an auto gearbox. They're a much nicer drive in auto. The only downside I saw with the merc both personally and from the constant supply to th HSE is the indicators on the mirrors. Any of the sprinters I've known in the HSE got an indicator nearly every fortnight :)
