Aura - Combined Contraceptive Pill - Stroke

    Hi All,

Im basically looking for a little advice/opinions/experiences.

I have been taking the combined contraceptive pill for the last 9 years. It has always been brilliant for me, no negative side effects and lots of positives.
In this 9 years I have had 2 occasions where I have experienced an "Aura" this being a distortion in vision that makes it seem like one of my eyes is looking through a kaliedoscope. Once was 6 years ago, and once was this weekend.
Now I have read quite alot on the internet about how people who suffer with migraines with aura, and take the combined pill, are at a higher risk of having a stroke.
The risk being about 28 in 100'000 compared to a person with no migraine/aura and no pill being 1.3 in 100'000.

Is this really a big enough risk to be concerned about? Sure its a bit higher than your average person, but put in perspect its only a 0.028% chance. One doctor, when I lived in England, tried to tell me I couldnt have the pill at all because I had had an aura once(so far) in my life.
    Is it really that bad?

I dont suffer with migraines at all, bar these 2 occasions and even then I didnt really get a headache, just the aura. If I'm honest I feel that the positives outway the risk, for instance the combined pill can decrease your risk of cervical cancer, with my grandmother - mother and both aunties have all had.

Does anyone have any experience with this?

OP, we don't give medical advice on this forum. Please, if you're concerned about your health, go and see a doctor.

    All the best,
