The rescheduled game from a couple of weeks back. I doubt it's on TV so we may have to rely on twitter for updates.

Again it's a must win for Munster and a 5 pointer would be great but Leinster struggled past them last week so nothing is a foregone conclusion.

    22-6 is a struggle??

I doubt it will be on tv since there is nothing mentioned under tv on the pro12 site. I expect Munster to go out and bring back a win but something will need to click to pick up a bonus.

The game is on a Sunday so I would expect Munster to have better luck getting players not in the 22 back from the international set up.

I would expect a team a long the lines of
    WDP Varley Botha
    Holland MOD
    DOC Coghlan TOD
    TOL Keatley
    Mafi Tokula
    LOD Jones Zebo

Bench Sherry Horan Archer Nagle Butler Williams Deasy Hurley

I admire your confidence that O'Leary will not be called up to the Ireland camp. That would be a good team and well capable of dismantling Aironi who are even worse affected by the international call-ups than Munster.
As with Leinster last week, I'd expect a hard game but a Munster win in the end.

    22-6 is a struggle??

The context I was putting it in was us looking for a BP win but it was more about their performance than the scoreline, which was slightly flattered by a late try.

Are you allowed to post streams to broadcasters websites?

Are you allowed to post streams to broadcasters websites?

Only those of official broadcast partners and if these are geo locked there is to be no discussion of how to bypass that

    Is it really?

    I think we'll qualify anyways.

I think we would rue a loss to Aironi if we did not get a home S/F

Every game is a must win if Munster want to catch and overtake a Leinster and guarantee a home semifinal and final

There is still another set of interpros for Munster to play (Connacht away, Leinster home, and Ulster home on the last day of the league). Connacht will fancy their chances as it could well be a weakened team that goes there, Leinster will fancy their chances, and Ulster will more than likely have to win if they want to get a Semi spot.

Munster have 6 games left (incl Aironi) and 4 of those games are against top 6 teams. With Munster 5 points clear of Ulster in fifth a five point win in Aironi would leave them with a very strong buffer going into the last set of games. It would also put them in a great position to go for top spot. A 5 pointer against Aironi and beating Leinster would cut Leinsters lead to 4 points (I'm assuming Leinster would get the bonus point).

Simply put there is alot of rugby still to be played.

If we want to keep 2nd spot and challenge for 1st it's a must win. If we're happy with a top 4 then it's not.

My view is a 2nd spot in the minimum we need and even with a 5 pointer here a top spot is almost impossible, even if we beat them in TP.

    http://www.munsterrugby.ie/news/10217.php

    Munster Squad: M Horan, W Du Preez, BJ Botha, J Ryan, D Fogarty, M Sherry, S Archer, B Holland, I Nagle, M O'Driscoll, Dave O'Callaghan, T O'Donnell, P Butler, J Coughlan, D Wallace, C Sheridan, D Williams, I Keatley, S Deasy, S Zebo, L Mafi, S Tokula, L O'Dea, D Hurley, F Jones, S Scanlon, J Murphy.

    Munster Squad:
    D Fogarty, M Sherry,
M Horan, W Du Preez, BJ Botha, J Ryan, S Archer,
    B Holland, I Nagle, M O'Driscoll,
    Dave O'Callaghan, T O'Donnell, P Butler, J Coughlan, D Wallace,

    C Sheridan, D Williams,
    I Keatley, S Deasy,
    L Mafi, S Tokula,
    L O'Dea, D Hurley, J Murphy, S Zebo,
    F Jones, S Scanlon,

    WOOOOOO! WALLY!!!!

    I'd like to see:
    du Preez, Sherry, Botha, Nagle, MOD, DOC2.0, TOD, Cawlin;
Williams, Deasy, Zebo, Mafi, Tokula, LOD, Jones

Bench: Fogarty, Horan, Archer, Holland, Wallace, Sheridan, Keatley, Murphy/Hurley

Admittedly I didn't see last week's games, but O'Dea seems to be scoring a try in every game he plays so Munster shouldn't drop him.

For God's sake give Nagle a start. Plus Deasy seemed to make a big impact last week given the thread comments so perhaps he deserves a start at 10.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,264 ✭✭✭✭Fireball07

    The team I'd pick:
Du Preez, Sherry, Archer, Nagle, MOD, DOC2, TOD, Coughlan
Sheridan, Keatley, Zebo, Mafi, Tokula, LOD, Jones

Bench: Fogarty, Horan, Botha, Holland, Wallace, Williams, Deasy, Hurley

Great chance for Sherry to get a start, and I think Archer did well last week, I'd keep him in there for another week. Give Botha a half an hour or so off the bench. Nagle surely has to start this week. I was tempted to play Butler but I think Coughlan brings a certain security and experience to the back row. DOC2 and TOD have been excellent. Wally on the bench :)

Then I'd pick Sheridan at 9 just to see what he can do, but obviously Williams is likely to start. I'd keep Keatley there, I think he can make a big impact. And that back 5 has huge potential and could cause a lot of damage. Hopefully Tokula has settled a bit more and will have a better game, the back 3 would be extremely dangerous in attack. I wouldn't mind seeing Hurley in the centre either but it seems unlikely.

Hurley is class and has been in great form, but I think it's clear that his best position is full-back. And Jones is probably better than him there. Hurley isn't as effective on the wing, though he can still be pretty good but I'd like to see Zebo and LOD play together with Jones. Zebo wasn't there last week and both are better finishers than Hurley. I think he'd be great in the centre, but as you say, it's unlikely. I think he's a good player to have on the bench though, makes a big impact.

IMO Hurley's been Munster's best back by a country mile this season, and I wouldn't like to see Jones displace him without showing some really serious form.

While I agree with that, I'm not sure we can afford to leave someone with the obvious quality that Jones has, out of the squad. Which is why I'd really like to see Hurley tried in the centre.

    Munster:
    F Jones, D Hurley, S Tokula, L Mafi, S Zebo; S Deasy, D Williams;
    W du Preez, M Sherry, S Archer; B Holland, M O'Driscoll capt; Dave O'Callaghan, T O'Donnell, P Butler.

    Replacements: D Fogarty, M Horan, BJ Botha, I Nagle, D Wallace, C Sheridan, I Keatley, L O'Dea.

I assume Coughlan is being rested. Delighted that Deasy is getting a chance, good luck to him. He has shown some flashes of talent, hopefully he can build on it and become a dependable player. Disappointed that O'Dea isn't starting but Hurley needs some match time, he hasn't started since Treviso on 18 February.

Best of luck to Wally too, he'll be like a new signing if he can get back to his great form at the end of last season.

Is Johne Murphy injured/rested/dropped? No word on his absence.

  • Moderators, Science, Health & Environment Moderators Posts: 18,266 Mod ✭✭✭✭CatFromHue

It'll be interesting how Tokula gets on.

Dunno anything about Murphy but I'd rate Zebo and Hurley as better wingers.

    AIRONI:
    15 Tito Tebaldi; 14 Riccardo Pavan, 13 Matteo Pratichetti, 12 Gabriel Pizarro, 11 Sinoti Sinoti; 10 Luciano Orquera, 9 Tyson Keats;
8 Josh Sole, 7 Nicola Cattina, 6 Filippo Ferrarini; 5 Carlo Del Fava, 4 George Biagi; 3 Lorenzo Romano, 2 Roberto Santamaria, 1 Matias Aguero.

Replacements: 16 Fabio Ongaro, 17 Alberto De Marchi, 18 Salvatore Perugini, 19 Filippo Cazzola, 20 Emiliano Caffini, 21 Giorgio Bronzini, 22 Naas Olivier, 23 Alberto Benettin

I was far from impressed by Tokula's performance last week. He really needs to step it up against an average Aironi side.

Wow, Keatley's nightmare continues. Would it be fair to say the 10 jersey has been picked on ability / form shown so far? Poor Keats has had an awful season from what I've seen of him.

Mixed the good with the mediocre. He's showing flashes of ability - he tends to do well one week, and not so well the next. He's one a couple of games for us, Cardiff away being the main one, and that was at a point when he was starting every week.

Awful season is an overstatement. Viewing would have to be fairly selective to draw that conclusion to be honest.

If you watched every Keatley match since ROG came back from the RWC awful would be a fair conclusion, however during the RWC he was pretty good

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 686 ✭✭✭Flincher

Since the World Cup I thought he was fine against both Edinburgh and Connacht in Thomond, and was excellent for the first 40 against Cardiff - probably his best 40 in a Munster shirt. Decent cameo against the Saints, but we were all over them at that point.

He was dreadful against Ulster (apart from a lovely kick to O'Dea) and obviously didn't set the world alight last week.

Its been a mixed bag since ROG came back, and its tough on Keatley that he's not playing every week, and losing out for the big games.

The talent has been there at times this year, just not the consistency.

Great to see Felix Jones back starting, I wish him all the best, great talent but just needs to get some time without injury. Will also provide backup for Kearney for Ireland. Will hopefully get D Kearney to pick up challenge

Ah yes the real action of the weekend!
Aironi missing 19 apparently. And very inexperienced half backs.

Handy win for Munster I reckon.

I suppose it depends on what rocks your boat, some might say being at the Garryowen v Shanon game on Friday night was the real action, some might say watching the U20s was the real action, some might say watching Ireland in the Aviva was the real action and other might say Aironi v Munster is the real action.

I usually take them as they come and for me Munster are next up and Munster have their top team out there

Playing away from home with Daivid Wilkinson as ref, yeah, anything can happen.

Can't wait for the game and it's great to be back involved with the squad. It'll be an eye opener for me one way or other #fingerscrossed

Must be nerve wrecking coming back like this, 2nd time for a similar injury too. Hope he gets to retire without another injury.

~Munster lucky. Penalty won for in the side, even though we clearly knocked the ball on 4 seconds before that.

Deasy misses it from 22m out just v.slightly to the left of the posts!
    Awful kick!

    Try Aironi.

Awful defence. Kicked through, Hurley and Williams beaten for pace by the Flanker, and he slipped between the two of them to touch down.

    Conversion Missed.

    5-0
