Rapid weight loss needed

    Hi there,

So basically, in August of last year i weighed 23 stone, 5lbs. Today I weigh 17 stone exactly.

I have gallstones, and they will not do surgery on me until i weigh 13 stone. I am being admitted to hospital approx every 2 weeks in agony. But once treated the pain is manageable and I am fairly active. I do a 3mile walk every day (my doctor has advised not to jog yet as I risk damage to my joints) and swim 1.5km 4 times a week.

I have 4 stone to lose and I need to lose it quickly, because I cant cope with this much longer and my weight loss has slowed an awful lot.

A friend has suggested a food replacement diet like lipotrim or that, and I certainly wouldnt be thinking about it long term, just until I got over this final hurdle and got my surgery.

Has anyone been on it? Did they find it effective? Or can anyone think of another solution for my problem?

Not something I normally recommend, but in this case I recommend a Protein Sparing Modiefied Fast. This is a diet where you eat real food, but nearly all protein and green veg.

Go to http://forums.lylemcdonald.com/ and ask questions for details. Lyle McDonald has written a book, with a lot of research behind it, and will answer questions on the forums. But he's a grumpy bastard, so don't ask if you can find the answer elsewhere.

The basic idea is that you eat 1.5-2g of protein per pound of bodyweight in the form of lean proteins, a serving of green vegetables at every meal, 8-10 capsules of fish oil a day, and nothing else. If you are working out with weights, you have one high carb meal once a week.

A typical PSMF breakfast would be a mushroom omlette made with egg whites only.

Lunch could be tuna and salad, you could made a dressing with a small amount of vinegar and/or lemon juice. No oil.

Dinner could be chicken breasts and broccoli/spinach/green beans etc.

You can have protein shakes, cottage cheese, very lean meat, sugar-free jelly, tea, coffee, tabasco sauce and a few other bits and pieces. No alcohol, no fruit, no non-veggie carbs, no milk.

It's not a fun diet, but it does produce rapid weight loss. It's not as anti-social as lipotrim etc, because you can go out for a meal in a restaurant and get food you can eat.

When you come off it, you have to gradually add in calories.

Well done on the weight loss so far, obviously you have the motivation but your body is used to what you've been doing I agree with Eileen lots of green veg and protein will help your body function like a machine! I would advise introducing some new exercises into your routine to give your body a kick up the arse, I know you will not be joggin or doing anything that is high impact but if you can add on exercises that use muscles you're not utilizing at the moment it will help with the plateau.

See it really depends what you've been doing so far, maybe you need more calories as your body is not getting enough or maybe calorie cycling would work for you

Like Eileen has said, PSMF according to Lyle McDonald. I think at your weight you get two free meals a week. If you buy the ebook you get a calculator determining free meals and refeeds.

It's hard and Lyle won't try sell it to you

Your gallbladder is used to store bile which in turn is used to break down fats in the intestine, if you eat a fatty meal your gallbladder will squeeze out some bile; but you have stones hence the pain. Where Ducan or high protein might cause you trouble is their fat content, i.e. you'll need bile!!
If you'r going to change your diet then I recommend going back to your doctor or visiting a registered dietitian.
